Hmm.Maybe your strings are too light.When I use a set of 009's,I use a 010. as my high E. Ernie Ball makes a set of HYBRID SLINKY strings.This could help.

Contact Mesa Boogie direct - phone or email, have a look at their website - and they'll let you know who your nearest dealer is. They might even sell to you direct - I don't know. Don't know about Marshall pedals, I'm afraid, but I would reccomend those by Tube Works, a range of three valve-driven overdrive pedals.

I'm not sure I understand exactly what the question is. Are you asking what a closed back cabinet is, or do you have to have a closed back cabinet to use distortion? A closed back cabinet is simply a speaker cabinet that has a closed back, unlike open-back cabinets. These cabinets have much more of a low-end than open back cabs. As far as distortion, that is created in the amp itself, the cabinets have nothing to do with that. The closed back cabinets will make the distorted guitar tone a little thicker and beefier, but that is about it. A Marshall closed back cabinet costs around $900.

Strats are tricky cause most of their early axes used
decals for I.D. Underneith the neck(bolts)there should be some numbers telling you what year it was made.
You'd have to take off the neck to do this.I think there are numbers inside the pickup cavity, on the body.But 79's and 80's are very heavy,"TRUCKS".

I'm glad you're not going to be chopping the balls off anything. I imagine someone else will post you a more useful reply - as I haven't owned a guitar with a locking trem - but I'll give it a go. Part of the difficulty is that the trem is balanced with springs, so that when you tighten one string the others all go out of tune slightly as the springs adjust. This means you have to go over hem repeatedly until they all come to the right pitch and stay there. I guess also you will need to release the locking part to allow the strings to adjust as you retune, and lock it again when you're done. If you have problems, though, take it along to the shop where it was bought and ask them to go through it with you. So long as you don't pick a moment when they're rushed off their feet they'll be haoppy to help you, as you're potentially going to spend a load more money with them if you keep up your new interest.

Tuning these guitars can be pretty frustrating. I have owned several guitars with Floyds. Keep in mind that when you tune one string, the others are going to go out of tune. I always tuned to about a half step lower than standard to allow the strings to adjust to the tension. Then tune them almost to pitch, then tighten the nut, this will raise the pitch slightly, then tune to pitch using the fine tuners at the bridge. Sometimes you may need to loosen the nut and start over again, but after you get the hang of it, it's a piece of cake.

I believe it is just a standard Squier but with some upgraded pickups, (I think). I am not sure when they were made. I would imagine sometime within the past few years.

As with any other guitar, you play what you want to on it! Hamer's are supposed to be good guitars. I've never owned one but all the magazine reviews I've ever seen have lavished praise. Play some others as well. If this one feels right then it's the one for you. And don't let anyone tell you that you have to play a certain type of music becuase you bought a certain type of guitar. Down that road lies mundanity and the death of creativity.

Got to be a valve amp. Check out Mesa Boogie or Fender. Marshall, too, though they don't do it for me. Don't be afraid to get second-hand stuff. These things last really well, and you'll be able to afford a far better amp second-hand than you could get new. A valve distortion pedal into an old single channel valve amp is wonderful, but you can get similar sounds with more recent valve gear. Be very wary of transistor amps if a good distortion sound is important to you - they generally tend to be quite harsh. (Of course I risk opening a huge can of worms here - they'll all come out of the woodwork saying they've owned a transistor amp that sounded far better than anything ever made with valves in.) Try them out, listen carefully, don't make a rush decision, and go with what feels right to you.
