KAHLER TREMOLO SYSTEMS

i just purchased a new kahler . It was impossible to find but I finally found a guy who told me kahler is still in business and now I have one but it is different. It isnt a flyer. Its a pro but it looks nothing like the old ones and is half the weight Does anyone have any info on this new system?????? .

Re: KAHLER TREMOLO SYSTEMS

Well, I know that they're impossible to find. Just about 1 1/2 years ago, I was looking at their web page. A friend of mine who owns a small chain of local music stores told me that they're still in business, but they only deal with major guitar companies. So if I wanted one, I'd have to go and order a custom built guitar from ESP or Jackson. As far as the new system goes, I've never heard of them making one other than the one with the cam, or ones that look like a Floyd Rose (ick).

:1st. Tubes only. 2nd,1 amp OR guitar for that matter won't cover the sounds you listed. For the money,an amp that will give you clean to crunchy/gainy but NOT distorted, get a Soldano Atomic 16. But you'll need a 2-12/4-12 spkr cab to let the amp open up.It's a 1-12 combo. I believe you can find new ones for $500ish at places online. Then add a good pedal for the Metallica sound. Good luck.

For all your tones and much more check out Line6! I have a Flextone II XL and I LOVE it. The web site is awsome, you can download tones from a complete library of artists(including several METALLICA tones) and store them in your amp or on your PC.Check out the Flex HD(that's my next toy),POD,and POD PRO. For the price you can't get a better sound!
GOOD LUCK!

Packard

I own a Semi-Acoustic guitar built by Nick Packard circa 1948, wondering if anyone out there either owns a similar instrument or has any other information.

hardborad.plywood body,top and back

Recently I read about the construction materials used in Danelectros.
Compared with other tone woods, it still sounded great when I played one at a music store.
Has anybody made their own guitar using these materials. I'd love to hear from the pros an hobby
luthiers. I'm considering making this my first venture into guitar building. I prefer the semi-hollow kinds of guitars.

Many thanks

Are reissue VOX AC30's any good?

I've heard prior to 1993 they were rubbish. Are the new ones good?

Re: Are reissue VOX AC30's any good?

: I've heard prior to 1993 they were rubbish. Are the new ones good?

:I don't think the AC 30's have ever been considered rubbish. It's just that people have a propensity to compare reissues to the originals. That goes w/everything.It's a GOOD amp. If you're looking for that Vox tone, don't be afraid to get one.

Re: Are reissue VOX AC30's any good?

I have never heard of an AC30 that wasn't good. They are great amps and I would not pass up the chance of buying one (if I had the money).

Re: Are reissue VOX AC30's any good?

They are all crap. You are obviously worth a shag

Re: Are reissue VOX AC30's any good?

The solid state ac30's dont sound as good. My ac30 tbx reissue sounds better than any new marshall or fender Ive heard. And it seems to be pretty tough. Of course that is my opinion.

Re: Are reissue VOX AC30's any good?

: : I've heard prior to 1993 they were rubbish. Are the new ones good?

I've got an AC30 TBR head from about 1990 and it's great. Sounds just like any other AC30 I've heard. I think you really have to use an AC30 with the old blue speakers to really get the most out of it. The difference in sound quality between the blue speakers and the green ones is like the difference between vinyl and CD.... Anyway, the amps before '93 are ok by me!

no time to get better on guitar

What's the most effective way of getting better on guitar if I only have a spare half hour three or four days a week because I work all the time? I gig regular and have band practice Tuesday and Thursday nights straight from work. I've little time to practice new things. What should I practice in those half hours?

play new stuff,

I am only 16 years, and i am in a rock band that also plays in night clubs. Anyway i am quite good on the guitar. I find the most effective practise being hard/difficult licks. If i play easy chord progressions or just simple things i don't get anywhere except getting stronger fingers! What i do is find something in a magazine that you are very familure with and try and play that. The more familure you are with it the better the practice it will be! If you can't find any songs then just stick to some reasonbly difficult scales - to play fast that is. If you try and play them fast then you really start to pick up your speed and co-ordination between strings which i think is the best practise you can get! also get into the habit of trying to have a bit of a jam session with your band, because i know when i muck around and play solo's and stuff, i really start to get a feal for what i'm playing! Therefore your enjoying your guitar and becomming better at improvisation and overall playing. Sometimes you have to play things that are not good sounding tunes but quite difficult to play. Playing difficult tunes is far more effective than repetion! That's what works for me, give it a try, i think you will start to notice a difference.

I hope i have helped you, i'm sorry if i haven't and just wasted your time.

anyway good luck

Re: play new stuff,

i mostly agree with what this guy said...but i would add that you need to make sure you can play those scales slow first or you will just be a fast sloppy player

Sorry if this is really anti-scoail - or just plain lazy - but can I refer you to an answer I gave a few days ago? SWcroll down to December 20th, a message from Chris called Can anyone help me with lead guitar, scales, soloing etc. If it helps you great, if it doesn't, well nevver mind. Its just it was a bit long and I can't be bothered typing it out again!!. Good luck, anyway.

Re: no time to get better on guitar

I'd have to agree with Chris.1/2 hour three days a week
is not enough time for improvement.I'm taking lessons
form an old Jazz dude,he told me to make time to practice or I'll never improve. He was right.I try to practice 2hours 3 or 4 times a week.I used to sleep with my axe when I was younger.I wish there were short-cuts,but there aren't any.
Play On !

Are TELES better than STRATS

I play in a three piece cover band. Should I go tele or strat for a style that crosses Andy Williams to Lenny Kravitz?

Re: Are TELES better than STRATS

: I play in a three piece cover band. Should I go tele or strat for a style that crosses Andy Williams to Lenny Kravitz?

Well, that depends on what you use your guitar for. Right off the bat I'd go for a Strat, because that sound matches Kravitz better than a Tele would, but if you are looking for a bright and twangy sound, and do not need a tremolo, then a Tele would be a better option. Depending on what kind of Strat you get, if its a low end one, the tremolo (after a couple of years) will begin to make tuning your guitar a pain, and will go out of tune very quickly, but if you get a decent strat (Floyd Rose equipped would be good), then you won't have to worry about that.

My Suggestion would be to go to your guitar store and just play the two types. That's the best advice I can give you, because that's the best way to decide. Good Luck, hope this helped a little.

Re: Are TELES better than STRATS

Personally, it all depends on what type music you intend to play. If it's bluesy music, I'd go with the telecaster, but if you want to play rock, go with the stratocaster.

oh brother

how ignorant can you be? take a look around and see how manby great blues players use strats...its the sound you are looking for that matters. SRV played some good blues and he played a Strat. Is Stairway to Heaven a rock tune? Page played a telecaster through most of it. SO much for your stupid theory.

Strat American Standard "Plus"

I'm thinking about buying this axe. Can anyone tell me anything about the American Standard "Plus" Strat? What makes it different from
a regular American Standard? It has satin-finished tuners (Schaller w/locks) and LSR roller nut.
It has 3 pickups (lace sensors). The body is alder (natural) and the neck
is rosewood. Fender no longer makes the American
Standard (think this one was made in 1997). It's new,
but is it worth $900? How effective are the features I
described? How much should I pay? Thanks in advance.

Re: Strat American Standard "Plus"

are you talking about the Strat Plus? the things you described are whats different about it. 900 is too much if its only a strat plus. but there was a strat plau deluxe and the strat plus ultra. the deluxe isnt even worth 900. the ultra had a maple top...maybe its worth 900. the deluxe goes for 700 at most. so it depens just what model of the strat plus you are talking about.

Re: Strat American Standard "Plus"

Gatorade - The salesman (as well as the sales ticket) only describes it as a "Strat Plus"
--- but what features/options differentiates a Deluxe and Ultra from the Plus? Thanks.

Re: Strat American Standard "Plus"

the deluxe has an Ash body laminate top and back and 3 different color lace sensors. usually red/silver/blue.

The Ultra has an Ebony fingerboard, maple laminate top and back & the bridge pickup is a pair of lace sensors .

Re: Strat American Standard "Plus"

I have two Strat Pluses- my 1987(from new) has a killer Bridge Lace sensor that stings like a vintage Tele. the same, but very weedy indeed, bridge Lace Sensor that is rather feeble - is it defective, or wired wrong?- or were thge first Pluses better sounding?

Re: Strat American Standard strat plus - 1987 .1992 models

: I have two Strat Pluses- my 1987(from new) has a killer Bridge Lace sensor that stings like a vintage Tele. My 1992 plus (2nd hand) has the same, but very weedy bridge Lace Sensor that is rather feeble - is it defective, or wired wrong? - or were the first Pluses just superior sounding?

Re: Strat American Standard "Plus"

Basically, you described the differences yourself. The Standard doesn't have the features you described, except for the body and neck woods. You are right the Standard isn't made anymore Fender replaced them just this year with thw American Series. But, it's a great guitar, if you really want it, buy it! It will not let you down.

Re: Strat American Standard "Plus"

Phil,

I have been playing a strat and I am a devoted strat player, but I have come across some guitars, which are strat type guitars, but are way more awesome and the quality is comparable to a PRS. They are made by Gerard MeLancon and the classic strat version is a little more than $900.00, but it is well worth it. Check it out for yourself go to www.malenconfourm.com.

Good Luck

I have a Goya, same model, the headstock just broke off (it had been broken before, many years ago). While your original post was back in 2000, do you still have it and would you want to sell it?

How much is my Fender "Bullet" Bass worth?

I recently purchased a Fender "Bullet" bass guitar from a music shop in my home town. The owner sold it to me for $150. It was supposively a very rare issue. Please if you have any knowledge about this bass, fill me in. Thank you.

Re: How much is my Fender "Bullet" Bass worth?

at most its worth about 150. its not rare..its a cheap fender.

Re: How much is my Fender "Bullet" Bass worth?

The salesman probably was telling you a load of crap! If it were a very rare issue it would have cost a whole lot more than $150. It's probably just a low-end bass.

Re: How much is my Fender

To the last poster: You're wrong!
There were 2 issues of the bullet bass, the standard and the deluxe. The deluxe is different it has rounded covered pickups and is usually found in 3 tone cherry sunburtst with the Fender "F" plate on the back... If that is your bass you could probably sell it for 300-400 bucks, if not you've got a POS and you should break it.

Re: How much is my Fender "Bullet" Bass worth?

Dusty, if you still have your "Fender Bullet Bass" and if it is in good condition, it is worth $250-350. The "bullet bass" was only made for about 2 years. I bought one last November in excellent shape. It is a very under-rated bass, it plays & sounds great. I plan on keeping mine.
