Restringing A La Hendrix
Okay, I want to go about re-stringing my Strat Hendrix style (because I'm
left-handed, and don't want to pay extra for a lefty strat) so how do i go
about changing the nut around...Or do i even have to do that (meaning that
I cut new grooves and make some grooves narrower)??? How did Jimi do it???
Re: Restringing A La Hendrix
I believe Jimi just took his right-handed Strat and strung it up-side-down and kept everthing else the same (the nut, bridge, etc...)

I may be wrong, but I thik Phil's right - Hendrix simply put the strings on upside down, as it were, and left the guitar otherwise standard.

-I'm not sure if Hendrix reversed the nut but I have read that he wound his own pickups for extra high gain
( Star Spangled Banner sure sounds like it ) and also
tha he bent his whammy bar more so he could get a 2 note " swoop " when he hit it with his wrist ( since the bar is right under his wrist when the guitar is upside down )
Duncan pickups on a ESP guitar
Does anybody know what EXACT duncan design pickups are found in the LTD MH-200 (ex. HB-102, HB-103) or where i can find that information? thanks
Re: Duncan pickups on a ESP guitar
Go to the Seymour Duncan website and find the discussion forum there like this one. Post your question there and Rodney should be able to answer you, or you can email him. Find one of his many posts there. He is very helpful.

Re: Zoom GFX-707, Comments Please.
I have got a zoom 707 and i find that most of the sounds are good but as it only has two padals it makes live playing very difficult especially after a few beers. The best distortion sound i think is the comp distortion.

Effects Pedals / Processors
I had already owned the zoom 505, but I was looking for an accent pedal when ZOOM came out with the 707. I traded in my 505 and paid another $100.00 CDN.This unit is GREAT for me. I can program sounds for any of the types of music I like to play. The amp selector works great for tweeking those sounds. Its fairly easy to program. The drum machine is a great bonus. The AC adapter is crap. The cord is too short. It creates some annoying noises.Don't buy the one supplied, go to RADIO SHACK, they can set you up. For the price this baby is well made.I don't recomend it for your next OZZY tour but for your average garage band or bedroom rocker this unit can't be beat. I really like it. The GFX 707 is a compact unit that delivers. For the price of one pedal it gives you a hundred. Zoom you've done good.
5 out of 5!

Picking technique
Hi Please can anyone offer any help on picking techniques or perhaps a web site. I currently play rather okay with my fretboard hand but I am worried that I am not getting the most out of my picking. I use a Dunlop USA 2.0mm. I normally use a mix of alternate picking & bounce picking, I am starting to sweep pick okay but not at high speed. Plus I have no trouble pitching harmonics. What I would like is something that shows you how different holds on a pick work. I know this sounds like a basic question, but I think it’s important. For example when I was learning to sweep pick, I often missed one or two notes, until I held the pick with first two fingers & placed the other two finger on the scratch plate. This feels very uncomfortable, but It instantly worked my sweep picking improved in seconds, later I found out that this position was used greatly in the 70’s. So if there are methods of improving your picking just by posture I would love to here about them. Thanks Phil G. Ps a web site with pictures would be great.

Pricing a guitar
Hey guys I need to know how much my guitar might be. It is an 80's Fender squier II made in Korea. It is in really good shape because it hasnt been played that much. I am looking to sell it, so anybody who has any idea on a range of price would be very help full. Thankx guys.
Re: Pricing a guitar
I would say $150 might be a fair price. Maybe less.
Tuneing my Gutair
just started to play the gutair, need some tuner software, link to anything of the sort will be extreemly appretiated.
thanx in advance

Re: Tuneing my Gutair
Why do you need tuner software? Just go to a music store and buy a tuner.
Re: Tuneing my Gutair
I think you may need some spelling lessons before guitar lessons...
Are CRATE amps good?
I am going to be buying an amp for my guitar. I'm thinking about a Crate GFX 212. Ihas that flexwave thing (Supposed to make it sound like tube amp Does it???) It has 2 12's and 120 watts and some good effects built in. Are these good? Does anyone know? I play in a band as one of the guitarists. We do small gigs. I think that 120 watts will be good.

Re: Are CRATE amps good?
I would stay away from Crate amps in general, they are not very good amps( reliability, performance, TONE!!..). Even with the tube emulation circuitry, it's not going to even come close to the real thing. Even though it sounds like a good deal with the built-in effects and all, you will probably be disappointed with the quality of the effects. And, since you play small gigs 120 watts will probably be too much. Try looking at the Fender Hot Rod series, they are great amps. They have great tone( they are all tube) and they are very versatile. They average 40-60W RMS but they are a very loud 40-60 watts. They are just better amps than the Crate's. I think you would be happier with the quality you would get in the Fender.
Fender Hot Rod Pluggers are idiots!

Re: Are CRATE amps good?
120 watts is a lot of watts! ;-D Some things to think about... you may not need so much volume if you're only playing small gigs. Can the speakers handle it? Sometimes they can ripple or distort because they can't deal with the volume of the amp! As for your band, how many of you are amped up? What's your stage volume like? If you're the only guitarist, you might need that extra volume and sonic spread of the Crate 212. Nuno from 'Extreme' uses Crate stuff, so I guess that says something about their tone/reliability. The onboard effects have won a couple of awards I think, so they must be O.K, but nothing does the tube sound better than a tube amp! Is this what you want? The Crate would be a lot more versatile, but a tube amp is the real thing!
The Fender stuff is spotless, and for about the same cash you could get a 'Hotrod deluxe 112,' a nice amp with 40 watts output and 3 channel setup, which is plenty for most people. Marshall, Peavey and Laney do some nice stuff too, they all do tube amps that are within your budget. I own a couple of Peavey tube amps and they're great.
Tube amps are much simpler in terms of the noises they can make, but they interact beautifully with the way you play like a second instrument. The Crate has a lot more versatility, and maybe you need all the sounds it can make with those effects! Tube amps can't do that... unless you want to buy some pedals!
Hope I haven't completely thrown you off!

Re: Are CRATE amps good?
personally i think that crate amps suck
=)
Re: Are CRATE amps good?
Crate amps usualy are pretty bad, DON'T BUY A CRATE BASS AMP! I never played with a high end crate guitar amp, but the low and medium end models taht i have played were pretty terrible. The tone kept changing.

It depends on what kinda music you'll use it for, but I suspect 120 watts will be more than you need.
Consider this: Do you want a very clean sound or a "raw" sound? If you want clean sounds, the Crate is an excellent choice. If you want "raw" sounds, get a 30-45 watt tube amp and crank it up!

I think it is all your prefrence, if you like the amp and the feel then get it, I like Crate I think with all amps they make a "cheap" model and a "good" model if you get a cheap amp, then you get what you pay for and VV. well thats my 2 cents... Good luck!!!
Re: Are CRATE amps good?
I want a bass amp because the other amp I have is not good for that. I forgot the type of amp it was but it was a crate but I use it when I play the keybord. PLEASE SEND A PIC OF A AMP YOU WOULD USE AND MY DAD PLAYS THE GIUTAR AMP I WANT A PIC OF THAT TO. PLEASE SHOW THE AMPS UNDER $1500.

Crate G-212 is one of the baddest mofo's on the market. I used one while jamming w/ a friend of mine who was using a Carvin stack. It hung in there like a pro. One of my favorite amps!!!!!!!
sperzel tuners
Can anyone give me some pointers on installing and using sperzel tuners. I purchased some for my strat and really could use some help!!
Re: sperzel tuners
I would let a guitar tech. install them, cause you're probably gonna have to widen the mechine head holes to drop them in (drilling).
Fullarton Strat : good, bad or indifferent?
I'm thinking of buying a guitar for my niece.
What do you think of these guitars for a beginner?
Pricing my guitar!

Tokai Guitar
Could anyone tell me anything about a tokai guitar I've got, it's a custom telecaster made by tokai, one humbucker in the bridge position and a locking trem. Don't know a lot about the guitar but if anybody knows anything about tokai guitars at all then I could supply a photo, email me if you have any information as it would be greatly appreciated.
What Zepplin tracks with Danelectro?
I'm thinking of buying Danelectro DC2 for the hell of it. I hear they sound great and distinctive even though theyre made of cheap and nasty stuff (ply, mosonite, etc). I'd just like to know on which Zepplin Tracks Jimmy Page used one?

Recommended high gain preamp or head?????
Hey Everyone,
I currently have a Johnson Millenium 250W head which for the most part I
think sounds great, and it has excellent effects (allows dynamic modifiers
which means you can control effect parameters based on dynamics of your
playing). But I am wondering if there is something else out there that might
sound better. By the way, what do others think of the Johnson? Whenever
people comment on sound files I've posted (at
www.geocities.com/b_huether/recordings.html) they comment on how they really
like the tone I get. So in that respect, I am tempted to stick with it,
but...
Anyway, I really love high gain tone and sustain. Some of my favorite tones
of all time come from George Lynch on Dokken's "Under Lock and Key", and
Nuno Bettencourt on Extreme's first cd. I believe Nuno used an ADA MP1
preamp on that cd. That preamp is no longer made though.
So can anyone recommend either a head or a preamp that would get me a great
sound? If I go with a preamp/power amp combo I don't want it to be any more
than $1000.
Some of the features I require: great clean sound (as well as lead of
course) presets, direct outs (which need to be
cabinet emulated like the johnson, or that have speaker cabinet, mic models
applied so that the direct out doesn't sound nasty), very high
signal-to-noise ratio, awesome sound at low volumes since I record in an
apartment and can't rely on high output for great sound (which means tube
heads are pretty much not an option). Also I would like to have built in
effects like the Johnson.
Maybe the Johnson is my best option, but I want to know what else is out
there...
Hope to hear from lots of you,
Brian
Re: Recommended high gain preamp or head?????
Kinda sounds to me like you've got the amp you need... I too have a Johnson Millenium 250 head and I have played many amps and tried many amps before I settled on this one. I previously owned 3 Marshalls and just love the valve sound, tone and grunt, so it wasn't easy to jump into the digital world. The preamp valves in the JM250H do make a difference and make it a bit warmer than the Line6 which I A/B'd before settling on the Johnson.
Stick with the JM250H for great sound at live levels as well as studio levels. I have found that I had to do quite a bit of work to get the live sound the way I wanted.I used to use the Rectifier model for over the top smooth distortion but I found that it didn't slice through the rest of the band sound... we don't mic our amps. The stage sound is what you get.
I now use the Vox AC30 for my base overdrive sound because it's a little grittier and closer to a real vintage overdrive. Plus my solos cut like a knife... sweet !
enjoy and good luck..

What amp shall I get?
I want an all valve 15 Watt amp with reverb and an effects loop. Any suggestions? Portability is an issue.
Re: What amp shall I get?
Check out a Peavey classic 30... 30 watts all tube...not too big.
Yes Peavy Classic 30Re: What amp shall I get?
I've got a Peavy Classic 30 and love it. Great tone, plenty of volume... good luck! : Check out a Peavey classic 30... 30 watts all tube...not too big.
Re: What amp shall I get?
Tube amps need extra transformers and stuff which can make them a little heavy... the solid state Peavey Envoy and Blazer are even more portable, but they lack the tone and aren't as juicy as the Classic 30. They have reverb and fx loops, might be worth a look!

You might also want to check out Mesa Boogie's .22 combo. I don't know if they're still in production - if not, you'd be looking for a second hand one.
