Re: PC home recording: what do i need? i just want to make a acceptable good demo and burn them to C

: do i really need to get those expensive darla brand thing or just creative awe64 will do? any recomendation for mixer, mic? pls help thanks...

throw away your sound blaster if you want to make even a semi-good sounding demo ,buy one of the new cheap sound cards. you can go to guitar center and buy one good for first time users for around $250 , spend the money it's worth it, what your looking for at that price is one with at least 2 analog in/out ,2 digital in/out ,basic midi control ,20 bit digital to analog converters and 20 bit analog to digital converters ,and
compatibility with cubase, cakewalk, protools, logic audio, wavelab, cool edit pro.- the major home user audio editors (buy the way you'll need one of those and thats where the real hit to the wallet comes in! $400-$1000 and up! buy the way i have most of those with plug in's make me an offer i'll sell em cheap!

anyone out there playing metallica's solo? any suggestion on the guitar , effect , string gauge that

i've seen a lot of people using Zoom 505 for metallica's song. kirt's 10s string gauge is too hard for me to too the fastest part of solo

Re: anyone out there playing metallica's solo? any suggestion on the guitar , effect , string gauge

i had one of those ,didn't like it ,try 9-42 if 10s are to hard, i think that is what he uses

Re: anyone out there playing metallica's solo? any suggestion on the guitar , effect , string gauge

Hey man,i can tell you anything about metallicas stuff because i have mastered most of their songs. The guitar he uses is a esp kh-2. With two emg-81's. He uses a cry baby wah pedal and Ibanez tube screamer. You should use dean markley strings guages 10-46

The best distortion sound that i've ever heard is the gain from the Amp itself. the rest of the effe

pls recommend me the best effect to play metallica's song, thanks

SAD,but true !

Simulating an amp's natural distortion is a tough thing
to do.Played a Marshall JCM 900 & 800.SMOKIN'!! My Carvin head blazes like an inferno. But to be practical,
I'll combine O.D.s and Dist. boxes to spare myself a hernia.
Good Luck

Marshall New Series????

Does anyone know why the Marshall VS series is being discontinued?

Re: Marshall New Series????

I believe it is being replaced by the VS II, which, according to what I have read, are supposed to be waaayyy better.

Re: Marshall New Series????

: Marshall has unvieled a new solid state/valve amp.
Guitar player rated it very highly. It has on board DSP effects. Supposed to be awesome. But for the $ I'd buy a real tube amp.

my amp

I have a crate amp - it says ' tube driven 50 - chorus ' ---- any idea other than the wattage?

1940 Gibson ES300 pickup

I have a 1940 gibson es300 that needs a new pickup. The pickup is about 6.5" long I think it is one of the 1st. pickups gibson made. Does aneyone know of a pickup maker that can make one for me? thanks frank

Re: 1940 Gibson ES300 pickup

You may want to go to Gibson's website. get online and enter gibson guitars, it'll take you to their site. they list and stock vintage parts. I recently rebuilt a 1952 ES300, and got all the parts from Gibson. Good luck! KB

Re: floyd rose

yes, your tremelo is probably sunken into the hole, its not that uncommon really. if the backing to the floyd rose mechanics on the back of your guitar is not already off, take it off now. the floyd rose unit locks, or rather slides nicely into those weird looking screws on either side, theres little inlets in the unit for these. just fiddle with it, but make sure the springs arent on at the bottom, because that will make this harder. once the unit is slid onto the two screw things, hold it in place. look down below where you took the backing off, youll see where the unit itself comes down and there are either three or five holes for the springs, however many springs you have, put them in symmetrically. then, if the other sides of the springs arent already hooked onto that weird looking metal thing with the hooks, hook them on too, so that they line up with the holes. you know what i mean. while doing all this make sure that your strings are loose or not on, and you should be holding the unit down whle doing this, so theres not a lot of stress on the springs. now, when you go to put te strings on, just make sure youre holding the whammy bar forward (the direction of a bar dive), so they will come on loose first. im assuming you know how to clamp the strings into place with those metal cube things, thats not that hard. once those are in, just attach the strings to the tuners in the headstock. as you make them tighter, the floyd rose will begin to become normal looking again, as long as you slid the unit into the screw looking things. now if ever a spring pops out, you dont have to worry. the guitar will go out of tune, thats usually how you know a spring came out, if you didnt see it. simply push the whammy bar down gently the OPPOSITE direction of a bar dive, until the springs arent taught, and just put it back on like the rest of the springs. i hope this EXTENSIVE (sorry) follow-up has helped you, if anyone has any other questions about guitars, music, theory, whatever, email me at [email protected]

Re: floyd rose

Well comrad, we're in the same position...
Same story with a floyd rose, now it is sunken in our guitar too...
PLEAS HELP US GUYS ! ;_;

Bye Bye by Vagnard & Anny !

P.S.:Did you find a strange little spring ?
It has jumped out from the floyd rose mechanics while we were tryng to change the strings... We can't figure out where the f**k the nasty little spring was put...
GRRRRRRR !!!!

guitar varnish for GibsonJ100Xtra?

Got my Gibson J100XTRA back from the shop after having a B-band pick-up fitted. Sadly the guy doing the job started a few cracks going in the varnish. Worst was one running 2or3 inches up the belly towards the `moustache` bridge, at the spruce-ply top joint line.
Really dont know where to start fixin this one, to get my old Gibson back to it`s shining glory. Not even sure what type of varnish is needed for this job.

7 string p'ups

I'm looking for a good puncjy, funky middle (single coil or stacked hum) pickup for my 7 string.

My options seem to be very limited. Anybody know anything about this?

I heard Fender has a line of 7 strings coming out. I'd be the happiest camper of all if they came out with a set of Texas Special 7s.

Thanks
~Kenny

Re: 7 string p'ups

What kind of guitar are you stringing up? & strings have a fundamental problem. The low b can't resonate properly without a sound chamber. This is compensated (or at least tried) with the pick ups. I own a solid body 7 string I have tried a crapload of pickups. The best were DiMarzio Evolution. It doesn't have great mids but none do. To capture your mids, use a heavy gage string. I use 13 gage but a 12 will do. This is realy the only way I found to boost mi mids without beind too trebely or muddy. Also put an eq right before your amp.

Hope this helps.

Re: 7 string p'ups

dear god stay away from the Fender Stratocaster 7's, they are the biggest pieces of crap on earth, just lettin you know from a fellow 7-string player, stick with Ibanez, they've been at it the longest and they make sik ass guitars

Difference between steel/brass etc...

What's the difference between steel, brass, silk/steel and other strings? I have used silk coated steel strings and brass, and my B and E (bottom two) strings are steel, but I don't see any difference between them. Is there anything I'm missing?

And why can't you use nylon strings on some acoustic guitars, and you can't use steel strings on others?

Bassman Amp Distortion Help!???!!?!

I have a bassman ten head that i just purchased and i love it. But, its natural distortion sound is too loud and i can't get the clean sound loud enough without it distorting. Any suggestions? is it hopeless? Should i just save for the mesa boogie?

Re: Bassman Amp Distortion Help!???!!?!

Hmm. What kind of speakers are in the cabinet? This could be caused by several things.A strong head with weak speakers will "break up" easier. Also, bass amps are wired differently for the bass guitar.Example,if you use a 35 watt guitar amp,the bassist might need about 60 watts to keep up with you and the cymbles(Tenor instruments).I'd get a good guitar amp instead.
Hope this helps

Re: Bassman Amp Distortion Help!???!!?!

Hi,
First what kind of distortion are you trying to get? A Mesa and a Bassman are gonna distort in very different ways.
Assuming you stick with the Bassman there are a couple of options:
1. Modify the amp and put a master volume control. This will allow the PREAMP to distort at low volumes but not the power amp.
2. Buy an attunater like the THD Hotplate or the Marshall Powerbrake. This controlls volume after the power stage so you can hear the sweet power tube distortion. No mods are necessary. I would stay away from the Marshall powerbrake cause it has a reputation for blowing output tranys. I own a hotplate and I(and my neighbors) Love it.
3. Save your cash and get a high gain amp like a Mesa, Rivera, or Soldano. (This is what I did when my Bassman wasn't cutting it.

Hop this helps!

Re: soundcity schematics

I am looking at the scematic right now. Unfortunatly it is in a book I have called "The Tube Amp Book 4.1th edition" by Aspen Pittman. I highly recomend this book if you plan to work on amps. I would send the schematic to you but I do not have a scanner.
