I use a blues driver with everything cranked when I want a lot of distortion, but I doubt it'd get distorted enough for you. It sounds fucking beautiful, though.

I had an MT-2 pedal.I sold it and got an Ibanez Smash-Box.The MT's parametric E.Q. was a pain in the ass! I also have a Rat(very good),Danelectro Fab Tone(nasty)
and a Chandler Tube Driver(rack).Try a couple of boxes,distortions are all different.The Marshall JackHammer is kinda mean too.

I have tried a bunch of distortion pedals. The one I found that gives me that hard crunching sound is the DOD Death Metal. With a few twists of the knobs it delivers a variety of distortions. Other than that, I run directly into the amp's distortion and crank it.

Bass Balls and Envelope filters are like automatic wah pedals. Listen to "Higher Ground" by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. That is an envelope filter on bass but it gives you an idea. Bwow-Bwow.
Flangers and Phasers are different flavors of a similar effect. A good phasing sound is "Nobody's Fault But Mine" By Led Zeppelin in the intro.
A good flanger would be "Lithium" or "Scentless Apprentice" by Nirvana. Or "Ain't No Right" by Jane's Addiction in the choruses.
The Octave pedals do two things: give you the fat lower octave sound like "Fool in The Rain"(Solo part)
by Zeppelin or High Octave Fuzz like Hendrix at the end of "Purple Haze". It synthesizes another note.
With a Whammy pedal, you can slide up and down octaves by rocking your foot. Rage uses this in "Killing in The Name". Most octave pedals only do one or the other, whammy does both plus harmonizing.
Overdrive, Blues Driver other distortions: You're simply going to have to check these out for yourself.
There are thousands of varaiations on the distortion theme, each that are good and many that really suck(no matter what MTV idiots they put in the ad.) Overdrives tend to push your amp harder(primarily a tube amp) and are more responsive to your playing. A Blues Driver or Tube Screamer will give you a musical, but not super raspy distortion plus some volume boost. Fuzz Boxes give Smashing Pumpkins style distortion, but also can give that misquito sound on "Satisfaction" by the Rolling Stones. A Rat or a Metal Zone will give you a more dry sounding, midrangey distortion.

The erogenous moan is a cool pedal meant to simulate a backwards guitar. This pedal provides a volume swell as you rock the pedal. It's tough get it to work, but it sounds good. Think "Are you expeienced" by Hendrix.
That sucking sound is the beautiful sound of analog tape turned over. The Guyatone Slow Volume does the same type of thing.

One more thing about about distortion. Many bands get their distortion from tube amps, not from pedals. Some get it from a combination of pedals/preamps and distortions. Sometimes tube amps respond better to having a hot input signal(guitar to pedals to amp)than a soild state amp. There's nothing wrong with soild state amps, and if you mess around with combinations of pedals, volume and EQ you should be able to come up with your own tone. Good luck man. it can be frustrating as hell. Because sometimes what sounds good by itself, stinks with a band and vice versa.

I put EMG pickups in my American Strat 10 yrs. ago and I have never regretted it. The sound is awesome from crystal clear to down and dirty; tapping clarity is fantastic. Active pickups have advantages over passive. Of course, no pickup can overcome an amp that sucks.

: I use an Acoustasonic Jr. with my Taylors, and , depending on the mics I use, I'm very happy with it. I have found that it's not all that great with maple bodied guitars when micked tho. I don't use a pickup as a rule, but I tried the amp using an old Lawerence one time and was suprised at the sound, not bad. Good luck in your search. Another thing that works if you have the room and the roadies to carry it all is a good Yamaha mixer with some "serious" speakers. Otherwise, the Jr. is probably just what you're looking for.

An accoustic will give you a more intimate feel for
the resonating natural sound. The electric will push
you to the level where power meets technique.
Bottom line: It's a matter of personnal taste.
Go with your gut and decide what's right for you.

If you were my daughter you'd get the worst ass whuppin of your life! You have just pissed away many, many $$$$$$$$$. He could have bought you 20 "cool" guitars and had money left over! Heck, I saw a 54 fender that sold for $18,000!

Ummm I am thinkin this is a put on. But if you did paint that guitar I can totally understand why your dad is mad. That guitar was worth alot and I mean alot of money, but since you painted it. Your dad is probably really hurt to, that guitar was given by his dad, and he seemed to have taked care of it and then he passed it on to you, and he was probably very pleased that you learned to play it but was probably hoping that you would of treasured it and taken care of it as he did.

Look I now that this is a pile of horse shit I am new to this site but what i just read makes me sick this first of all i think that this bob fellow needs to get a life and perhaps seek help! the "humor" in this message is by no means funny (i would give my left nut for that guitar)and I think this bob fellow needs to get Roshamboed to the freakin moon!!!!!!!!!
