OK people....come on, you can't see that this is a bogus post. The person who posted it's name is "Anita Boner"....anyone catcha clue yet. Just the way this was worded should show you all that this is no 14 yr old girl. If she didn't know what a les paul was, she certainly wouldn't have spell les with only one s. This is one bored pathetic person, who needs to spice up a bullentin board for amusements sake.

Guitar Sound

Currently I am using a contemporary strat and a JCM 800 50 watt combo. I can't really get the crunch that I am looking for. I use a BOSS super overdrive and that helps but I'm still not satisfied. By the way the strat does have a double coil pick up. Any ideas for a better over drive effect, tubes, pick ups etc. Thanks for the help.

Is there no way of blocking his puerile streams of
verbal diarrhoea through site management? Or
perhaps we should inform his server company that
their "client" is using their services to disseminate
offensive and degrading literature and hate mail?
Maybe when his parents get a phone call from their

Nah, Meaux. Just look at the archives of this site. It's been a great resource for all levels of playing and tech stuff. With regard to Bob, I can tell from his language use that he's a Brit, and his company is NTL, a big player in that market.
The Brits also have a different view on what Yanks refer to as First Amendment Rights... Offensive behaviour is a big no-no.

Well, I guess. I've only been lookin for a few days, so I don't know really, but heck, it gets depressin.
No matter where he's from, he and his buds need to grow up. How bout that girl w/ the 59 Les Paul? Have mercy!!!! I'm glad my kids got their ass whupped at an early age, they wouldn't think of making fools of themselves nowdays. I know kids don't have directions stamped on thier ass when born, but parents must share the blame.

Harmony-Central.com is a good one, not quite as interactive as this one though.
As for the girl, i reckon that was a joke post designed to break the heart of any vintage
guitar lover. Look at the name: "Anita Boner". If that's her real nam, then she's just paid

I've made one guitar and I'm working on another now. I don't know much yet, but I will help you out as best as I can.
You should go to these sites:
www.stewmac.com <----- Guitar building supply (they're about to get a LOT of money from me... ouch.)
www.mimf.com <----- Music Instrument Maker's Forum, free to join, and absolutely full of information, and if you can't find something, just ask, someone will either answer you or direct you to where you can find the answer. I would also check out www.warmoth.com as they make bodies/necks, and they sell other stuff, too.

I would recommend Melvyn Hiscock's book, too. I'm sure I mis-spelled his name and I don't remember the name of the book, either, something like "building your own electric guitar". You can find it at Stew Mac, or even barnes and noble (ick). Any other help you need, just write me or ask here. Good luck and have fun. I didn't build my own neck last time ( I am this time), but it was still a hugely rewarding process.

get a stewert macdonald catalog and buy a book! no i'll be nice but u really got to jump right in, u got guitars take one apart put it back together, learn how to use a router, drill press ,bandsaw ,basic tools first ,then fret tools ,install a floyd rose ,learn about paint/laccer and finishes ,i learned by f**king
up my first guitars and then trying to fix them. if you want to jump right in i suggest you buy a pre cut body and a ready made neck (stew-mac,warmoth,all-parts)
and go from their. if you do it like that you'll still
have to install -bridge,pickups,pots,pickguard,jack,- and paint and setup, not a bad first lesson, hell with that alone you can do 99% of guitar repairs. after that take the next step make a body ,last and the hardest thing will be making necks from scratch - somthing i still haven't attempted not enough time,tools, mabey in a year or so when my life is normal and i got time.

Congrats on you inheritence. You can go to www.CFMartin.com and probably find out what you need to. Or try a search
engine, and type in ...martin vintage guitars, and it will give you a whole lot of different
sites to go to, you will surely get your ?'s ans. there. Hope this helps!!

PLEASE, I need Effects help

Hello, I am a beginner to the electric guitar, though I have been playing acoustic for god knows how long. Anyway, I have a California Fat Strat and a Fender Frontman 25R. I recently bought two new pedals: the Danecho (expensive, but I absolutely love it) and a BOSS DS-2 (Turbo Distortion). I am somewhat disappointed with the BOSS--too much tin in the sound and not enough variation for my experimental tastes. Furthermore, it doesn't combine well at all with the Danecho--it doesn't give the edge I was looking for. I have a chance to return the BOSS (I only paid $60 bucks for it, which I know is a good deal), but am unsure what I should do. I want to get a Yo La Tengo kind of sound, with lots of delay (which is taken care of with the Danecho) but also a kind of poppy overdrive kind of effect that I cannot figure out. Ira Kaplan (Yo La Tengo's guitarist) doesn't really use too much distortion (which is taken care of very nicely by my amp anyway), so I am wondering what to do. Should I go for an equalizer, a compressor/sustainer, a chorus, or an overdrive? I need something with boost, but that also maintains the warm tone of my guitar. I do like the Danelectro sound, and have been researching the new minis a lot. I guess I'm a sucker for pop tones, but with the experiemental side of guitarists like Kaplan, Nels Cline, Lee Ranaldo, and Thurston Moore. I'm really new at this whole effects thing, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know about the guys you mentioned.But I'd try to STAY AWAY from Boss distortion pedals.They do modulation effects well(chorus,delays,flangers,phasors).
I'd get a Jackhammer,Smash-box,or Rat pedal.Take your time and try some others.

Ooops think I aaccidentally added an empty post there. I am not sure if you are just looking for current guitar makersor not. If not Vox has made guitars in the past and may still do so. There was also a guy based I believe in Birmingham who made Tony Iommmis early guitars for Black Sabbath. They were SG shaped and the pickups were used as the basis for the signature models that Gibson now produce. Sorry cant remember the name but when it comes back to me I will let you know.

I believe Pete Seeger had a similar one made . I bought mine over forty years ago in Paris where I was busking - I had just had my National Duolian steel guitar stolen in Germany, I bought it from a guy , who played in various bars in Paris, called Bennett whose brother , I believe , played with Donegan . It is a superb box - the maker G S Francis must have been one of the greats . He must have some recognition in Liverpool and guitar circles , surely ? I would like to know more about this guy and look forward to any news that may ensue .. Geoff Coates . Spain

I have also got a 1962 12 string made by G.S.Francis of Liverpool. It is quite special with it's triangular
sound hole and I know it was definitely made for Tom Springfield of "the Springfields" as it is pictured on several of their LP and EP sleeves. It is quite light in weight and has plenty of voice with a characteristic "Solomon Burke" sort of sound.Yes I like it.

You might want to take a look at Brook. They're based in Devon near Dartmoor. They make a point of using local woods and recycled woods wherever poss and this is a refreshing change from the standards. Some impressive examples can be viewed at www.brookguitars.com

Hi,
someone has already mentioned Brook guitars, which are simply fabulous instruments. They started off, I believe, making guitars with Andy Manson who is also a marvellous Luthier.
This coming month of May (or so I read in a colour supplement) there is an exhibition somewhere in Pimlico of British hand-made acoustic guitars. I'm trying to locate the article or exhibition now.
It's great to see a site like yours.

Palm Bay Guitars. Probably one of the most successful british makers. E-Mail me for more info. Palm Bay are also mentioned in the American 'Blue Book'. See basic website- www.palmbayguitars.com There is quite a story behind them!!

I'll tell you what happened to this site... it was overwhelmed by immature children who have nothing better to do in their lives but use a guitar message to build up their insecure egos. They constantly write these stupid, irrelevant messages, only convincing us more and more of their true stupidity. They bash on other aspiring guitarists in hopes of discouraging those who would succeed in areas where they have obviously failed. Being on this message board, I now expect the replies of senseless insults as given to "Amanda", but their words are nothing more than the illogical words of neanderthals...and they will be taken as nothing more than that. I'm hoping everyone will do the same (if you haven't already), especially those aspiring musicians out there who are only looking for some guidance. Thanks for your time...
by the way, this isn't the place for humor that has NOTHING to do with GUITARS...

Humor and guitars can mix alright, but I don't see how "shagging" and blow-jobs have anything to do with guitars...especially since I see it mentioned REPEATEDLY.. come on.. You can only hear a joke so many times before its stops being funny and starts being nothing but a nuisance. ok, so here's the thing:- I've got at the mostish $2200 australian, just over 1k us. I need to get a good amp. I've got a peavy bandit which has NO clean channel and its solid state. [email protected] I'm looking at a mesa boogie nomad 45, a line 6 or maybe something else. I'm looking to start gigging soon so I want something that can handle rooms well. I'm pretty much looking for a combo. And even tho the nomad's 45 watts, its apparently very loud and i'd just put it thru the pa anyhoo.

Now i need to know, should I get a nice tube amp or go for a line 6? OR, should I go for something with good clean and get dist from pedals?

I play mostly hard rock and modern hard rock (not nu metal), but i'm looking at getting something versitile too, so's I can do other gigs for $$$.

Please can yall help me out with this cause i do value ur opinions.

I fiddled around with a line 6 and I liked it. I saw one of their AX2's with a floorboard on ebay for about $800 (US). I would get something with clean and distorted channels, I think that real amp distortion sounds better than most pedals. You can get a whole bunch of sound out of a higher-end line 6, like, 30-something amps (some just sound like EQ presets to me, but still) and a shitload of effects. A good tube amp would be a worthy investment too though. I think you'd be solid either way.

I heard a band play a month ago, their guitarist used a nomad 4x10 and a danelectro. Sounded nice! It's a very versatile amp. I think you'll never use all the sounds in the line 6... it's almost too versatile. For your money, get the nomad, which does what you need it to do with a bit more style!

thanks very much people, i tried out a line6 flextone today and it was pretty good. But i realistically think i'd prolly only use the rectified and tweed settings. But i think the nomad could do better distortion, cause its mesa, and also nail a nice clean sound, also cause its mesa! I think i'm gonna go with the nomad, or certainly try it out when it gets into brisbane anyway.

ps, if anyone else has some suggestions please still do add them, every bit helps

What ever you do DO NOT get the line 6, they suck! They are ok for a practice headphone amp/amp but will never cut it live. If you want tone get a good Tube amp. Mesa Boogie makes great amps. Also check out Carvin they Rock!!!! I have used alot of different amps (used to be a Marshall freak) but Carvin amps just simply rock.
