Re: WHY PEOPLE PLAY A 7 STRINGS GUITAR WHILE THEY CANT EVEN MASTER A 6 STRINGS GUITAR?

Look at it this way, Keith Richards would say why do people play a 6 string when they can't master a 5? Personaly I think an extra string can be very useful ie in bass runs, finger picking or thicking chords, listen to a bit of Egberto Gismonti it's a mix of very complicate jazz with a touch of classical & brazilian styles thrown in, he plays a 7, 9, 13 string it's a very different sound, sounds like 3-4 seperate instruments. Well that's what I think, I suppose there are many other styles & sounds other than blues, rock & metal.

Re: WHY PEOPLE PLAY A 7 STRINGS GUITAR WHILE THEY CANT EVEN MASTER A 6 STRINGS GUITAR?

: Let's be honest. There is only two reasons that 7 strings are popular again(George Van Eps fans notwithstanding): KORN AND LIMP BIZKIT.
Steve Vai repopularized it to some extent, but it took those twoto blow it up. Now most manufacturers sell at least seven string models.

Re: WHY PEOPLE PLAY A 7 STRINGS GUITAR WHILE THEY CANT EVEN MASTER A 6 STRINGS GUITAR?

i think it´s cause of sound , the 7-th b string gives more poverfull crunchy sound that´s 1. reason the second is hehehe , you can play change of seasons from dream theater ..... :)

Re: WHY PEOPLE PLAY A 7 STRINGS GUITAR WHILE THEY CANT EVEN MASTER A 6 STRINGS GUITAR?

Yes I totally agree, I suppose things do become popular because many jump on the bandwagon. Personaly I don't think I could handle another string, I have enough trouble with the 6. But I still think I can be useful for more classical music, I am not a fan of limp, to me it's pants. Plus wasn't there a saying about adding strings to your bow being a good thing. Perhaps it's popular in rock for many different reasons than in classical of some jazz. Cheers, Phil

Re: WHY PEOPLE PLAY A 7 STRINGS GUITAR WHILE THEY CANT EVEN MASTER A 6 STRINGS GUITAR?

I am not into Korn or Limp Cookies, but I play the 7. I started when Vai came out with passion and warfare. I also have 4 6ers, but am selling them because I view the seven string as having a greater dimension and a better feel on the neck. I also like it because you can harmonize in the lower registers. Its just a way to expand your mind and your playing.

Go to www.gibson.com, scroll down to the bottom of the page and they have a link for
registering Epiphone warranty. Big question why they don't have the same link on the
epiphone page :^)....

: Tara
Hey Ive been coverin that song for a while, and I had your very problam. The solo is frightning and strange so you should just do what I do and blab somethn out on the guitar with loadsa tremelo, chorus and wah, it should sound the same. (make sure you have a bass or a guitar keepin rythm)

Re: SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!!! Smashign Pumpkins

: Hi Tara. Couldn't find a tougher song to cover eh?
Really, I remember reading that James Iha did the solo on that song and used a detuning harmony patch on his digitech IP-333. You couild probably get close with an octave pedal and a whammy pedal. No whammy? Use a slide and whiz it up the strings with some delay.
Good luck. Tell me how it works out.

I have a schematic that I got from Fender back in 1983. It's a little faded but I think it will scan OK. Send me your email address and I'll send it to you.

I just bought the same amp and have not been able to find the schematic. I am also looking for info about how to adjust the bias for that amp.
If you can email that schematic, I would be very appreciative. '
Thanks in advance.

At Richard Gendreault Musique, they quote me 2300$ for a DUAL rectifier (the new three channel) they can't have the price for the new three channel triple rectifier but the difference between the old dual and the old triple was 1000$.. 3300$ for the 3 channel tripe rectifier + 1500$ for the 4x12" cab.

All price are in Canadian.

1980 Martin HD-35

I was wondering wher one might go to get a value for a guitar onthe internet. It is used and has a few blemishes. Is thee anything like Kelly's Blue Book or Edmunds for musical instruments. If I take it to the local guitar shop, how do I know if I am getting a fair price. Thanks in advance for your help in this matter.

Fender Duosonic ????

My friend asked me about this guitar he bought back in the sixties. It is a Fender Duosonic (ser# 01966), anybody have any info on this. White w/red mother of pearl pickguard, 2 single coil p/u's, 2 slide switches, tone and volume knobs. Age, value, quality? Any info would be welcome, thanks. Skip

Re: Fender Duosonic ????

: Okay, to my knowledge the Duo sonic did not have the slider switches. This would the Mustang. Mustangs were made from the early 60's right up into the late seventies. Of course the mmodel gained a great deal of popluarity when Cobain played one. I just saw a mustang in Very Good condition, white w/tortoise pickguard for $800. It was a 1966, which I think yours is. The duosonic, had two pu's but a hardtailpiece and one traditional switch. If the guitar has a whammy, it's a Mustang.
The mustang was the # 1 student model along with the Duo Sonic and the Musicmaster. Great, underated vintage fender. you've got a keeper I'd say!

You are right about the switch. The Duosonic had a toggle switch. I have a 1956 Duosonic purchased in 1956 and it is still a good playing instrument. Bob

I have a 1967 Fender duo sonic ll my guitar has two toggle switches above the the pick ups that i believe are phasing switches for the two pick ups

Re: Fender Duosonic ????

: I have a 1956 Duosonic Ser#12965. It was my first electric guitar ( 1956) and it is still solid and plays well. It was not a full sized neck and thus a little easier for a young kid to handle. I could uase some new tuners as the plastic is cracking off. Try one you will like it. I think 1955 or 56 was the first year for the Duosonic. Bob

Re: Fender Duosonic ????

I picked up a 1962 Fender Duosonic about 10 years ago for around £200 (about $280), which wasn't in great condition but sounded fine with the volume cranked right up! Still plays OK, but I think the neck is a little twisted as the low E never seems to tune up correctly. Is there a way to fix this?

Strings are too tight

I noticed on my 7 string washburn it has floyd rose fine tunning and stuff, but anyway, i noticed that the strings are in standard tunning (440) and the strings are almost unbarbly to bend, i try to be solo's that have bendings in them and i noticed when i release they practicly snap right down and somtimes gettin stuck between my fingernail (Owwwwwww!!) anyway what do u guys recommend? also, This is a pretty good guitar, paid around $670-$720 for it, and also, im gonna be probley playing in gigs and infront of our school and i was wondering what would be a good reomendation for good pick-ups? well, i just need to know if i can just lossin the strings alittle w/o the bridge goin way in the geetar

vintage style tremolo question...

if you use a vintage style tremolo (wilkenson/fender etc) with locking tuners will it still go out of tune after doing tons of dive bombs? what exactly causes a vintage style tremolo to go out of tune? and do locking tuners like sperzel or schaller do anything to prevent it from going out of tune?

Re: vintage style tremolo question...

The string trees have caused tuning problems for me in the past. You might try graphtech trees, I love them. Or You try not running any trees at all. The nut might also cause some binding. If it is bone or plastic, try using graphite from a penci. If You hear any noises(ticcks & pings) when tremming thats noot a good thing . GOD LUCK
