Re: What are the best scales to learn?
just put all your effort and time into learnign the major scale!!! because every other scale is based off of that one, i.e.: pentatonics, all your minors, and all of your modes(mixolydian, phrygian, and so on). so really if you ask me, learn your major scale, its the basis for everything else.good luck,
mario
: i've recently started learning scales and have noticed an improvement. but i know absolutely nothing about them. i learned the E Minor Blues scale and a E Minor pentatonic. but i want to learn more and found a lot of scales in books and on the net that aren't moveable and just don't sound any good. any suggestions on what scales are good?
Guitar Grimore is your best bet!
:If its not moveable then your learning only open string scales. Buy a scale encyclopedia by a reputable
arthur. I just purchased the Guitar Grimore Exercise book. It has every scale I ever heard in existance within about 200 pages. This guy has more than several publications on the market dealing with all methods of theory, including chords, voicings and arpeggios. Don Latarski also has some very usable and compressed versions not so bulky for convience. If you play the pattern you should be able to move it. Personally, I recommend learning the 8 Western Diatonic scales after you have mastered the pentatonic blues scale. This is the basis for all of our music that covers the 8 modes
used by most accomplished guitar players and their constituents. It may seem a little challenging but once
you've mastered this pattern all you will have to do is change the root notes to change scales!
I stand corrected!

I agree! this book will change everything about your playing and understanding of the guitar.
go get it!
TAPE ECHO(WATKINS Vs ROLAND)
Could anyone give me any info on the Roland Space Echo? and its different models (201 etc) also I already own two watkins copicats 1 '65ish and 1 '76ish, is it worth upgrading to the space echo(the 65 Copicat is for sale or trade for other vintage units if anyone is interested!)
Re: TAPE ECHO(WATKINS Vs ROLAND)
: I bought a Copicat in 1995 because I just had to have a tape echo. With the tape and heads etc. it was a pain to keep running. I had always heard the Space Echo was great, so I bought one. I think it has many more features as well as a clearer sound and is much more reliable. I don't have the Copicat to A/B, but given the choice, I'd take the Roland. If you are a hardcore tape head, it may leave a bit to be desired. But I bet it'll work a lot more.
Re: TAPE ECHO(WATKINS Vs ROLAND)
I have a Roland Re-201 that is presently having some repair work done on it. New transistor and a few other relatively minor things. I bought the unit new in 1975 and it essentially has never been on the road. I always used it for guitar and a few times in a recording situation. It is is excellent shape because I am extremely fussy with my toys. Cleaning etc. Problem I have run into is I cannot find a source for replacement tape which Roland no longer makes. They came in little clear plastic boxes. I tried to find an e-mail address for Roaland U.S. To send a query to them for the purpose of finding out specifically what type of tape they used in there spools. Thought I would make my own. If you have any info on this let me know at the aforementioned e-mail. As far as further info. I loved the unit for over 25 years. They were well constructed and lthough limited in the range of effects for the price you could'nt beat them.

Easy songs for beginner?
Hi,
I am just learning how to play the guitar, and I would like to learn some songs, playing scales and chords by themselves is getting boring. Any suggestions for easy songs to learn? I especially like punk but will learn anything...
Thanks
Re: Easy songs for beginner?
Can you play barre/power chords yet?
You can find diagrams at lots of websites, and powerchords are pretty do-able for beginners if you practice them. Once you know powerchords, almost all punk songs will be within your grasp. Send me an e-mail if you'd like and I can either send you some tabs or direct you to a place with some.

Re: Boss Metal Zone PEDAL

Mt-2 will sound like shit without a good amp
mt-2

hope this help
Re: Boss Metal Zone PEDAL
Dude the pedal rocks! I use it for my overdrive. I can't afford a big tube amp yet cuz i'm in college. But it has got so major balls, great for fast alternate picking and ect. Only disatvantage, its a pain to get a good lead setting! Also buy a Boss & band EQ for it. It will really help dail in the tone, i never shut off my eq ever! Good settings are:
LEVEL 70% Treble 50%, BASS 60% Mid 60%, MID Freq 40% I believe... or i might have to to mids switched.. sorry. Also get a Ibenaz tube screamer, that pedal will really add to your rythem and lead tone. Give you that warm tone. Its a great pedal, but i'd trade it for a tube amp with a kilker OD any day, i think everyone would. Get it!

Boss Metal Zone PEDAL
What is a good setting for pantera to a chimaira or a good full not muddy tone tone? O rjust a good loud heavy setting. And don't refer me to other equipment thank you
Re: Boss Metal Zone PEDAL
The MT-2 is quickly becoming my favorite distortion pedal... I preferred the blues driver because I have a Marshall amp that has a great distortion tone but the MT-2 is the most versatile distortion I have found. It can give tones from a warm distortion to a nasty grundge distortion... anything you want i run the level a little high to overdrive my pre amp but the pedal itself has a great tone if you have a good amp try these settings: level 12 o'clock bass: almost all the way up high: 2 o'clock mids level:2 o'clock and pan the mids freq for tone to the far left is a heavy tone and to the far right is a bright distortion.... the pedal is great my only complaint is that it is a littlr heavy if you ever want a clean lead... i switch to my blues driver to play lead and still match the level of my MT-2
Have fun with it,
Ben

Ovation Guitars. HELP
someone please respond explaining about Korean vs US ovations. Less quality? Bad reputation? Please respond. Is it worth buying a Korean Ovation Celebrity Deluxe.
Re: Ovation Guitars. HELP
: someone please respond explaining about Korean vs US ovations. Less quality? Bad reputation? Please respond. Is it worth buying a Korean Ovation Celebrity Deluxe.
I reecxntly bought a new USA built Balladeer from Mars Music. At the time I also looked over the ones made in Korea.
The cost difference is significant with the USA made ones costing about $300 more. They sound similar but I noted that
one of the Korean made units had cracks between the neck and figure board. It didn't hurt the
sound and was probably only cosmetic, but if you are buying one check it over carefully.
If you are just playing for fun or as a hobby the Korean made guitars should suit your purpose.
But if you are planning on playing to audiences I'd spend the addtional for the USA ones.
You will have more of a selection of finish and styles. No matter what you buy I don't thnik
you'll find a better sounding easier playing guitar. I own three of them.
Re: Ovation Guitars. HELP
The non-USA ones -so I was told- are build -in license- by Takamine guitars. For that sake you wouldn't buy a bad one anyway (not even for concert purposes) - however, still bought a USA one myself. The difference is indeed hard to hear. Maybe its just a psychological thing to buy a USA built Ovation. Anyway - I enjoy mine for over 9 years already.
OVATION 1986
please, need more details about my OVATION acoustic limited edition 1986.
Thank you.

Kay guitar
I am going to learn to play the guitar. I found a Kay guitar in the attic. It has metal strings. I don't know if it is a good guitar or what. Would it be a good guitar to learn on?
Re: Kay guitar
Kay guitars USA were very nice and would be great to learn on but the Japanese Kay were not so good. Keep your hands on it if it is a USA Kay cos its worth some mnoney. Cheers Dave from England

Ovation replacement parts?

using multi-effect live
there's delay when swtiching from clean to dist or ryth dist to solo dist. is this happend to all multi-effect? how to overcome it? i used to use pedals and have no such problems.
Re: using multi-effect live
: I have a Boss GT-3 and that is not a problem since you can use the manual function which is controlled bu tre "control" pedal. This makes all the other pedals in the board control single effects while being in the same patch- so it would be just like using stomp boxes.... The GT-3 doesn't have such a noticible delay between patches eather, and i know there is a way to make delay effect not cut when changing patches ( it says on the manual ) but i still haven't had the time to figure it out.-- I also use single pedals along with my multi-effects, it doesn't change sound quality....the GT-3 also gives you the option of adding your own distortion pedal in the chain.

Get me off
How do you get off this crappy mailing list? It stinks.
Neck
I have a Les Paul style guitar with a broken neck. Where would I go to find a replacement?
Re: Neck
Is it a bolt-on neck? You're probably going to have to get someone who can look at it to help you. I'd check the manufacturer, too.

boss ad-5 vs. ad-3
I am considering buying either a boss ad-5 or the less expensive ad-3 for use with my Taylor 414. Is anyone familier with these units? Why would I want the more expensive one vs. the ad-3? Also, would this unit work for well for my fiddle as well?

Hi,
I have the ad-5 with my Taylor 612c and 614ce. it provides an amazing warmth and infinite tone adjustments with the eq, 2x2 chorus and reverb.
I play every week at our church and go directly form the ad-5 stereo to the board. I get nothing but outstanding comments form those who hear the tone. It is easy and intuitive to use and with the addition of the guitar "size" adjuster and the "mic distance" adjuster you can get a lot of great sounds that expand your guitar capabilities.
Add a boss dd-3 dely pedal and you will be very pleased.

Female Lead Singer in Search of Serious ORIGINAL Co-Ed Metal Band
If you live in the Virginia/Tennessee area, this is for you! Think of a cross between Kittie, Scratching Post, Sheryl Crow, Alanis Morrisett, Slipknot, KoRn, Static-X, and whatever else you feel like adding into the mosh pit! 'Cause anything goes, that's what makes it so original!! How is that original?? 'Cause no matter who you are, or where you go, you will always have someone to look up to, or give credit for their help in your inspiration! The band name I've got in mind is only a suggestion, and this will not be MY band, it will be OUR band!
Re: Female Lead Singer in Search of Serious ORIGINAL Co-Ed Metal Band
: I think that you and I both know, that if you are even remotely attractive, it will be your band in every one of your fans' minds. See No Doubt.
That's coming from someone who has played in many co-ed situations.
Well, some people think that...
Often times, that does happen... But when a band has multiple lead vocalists it's difficult to point fingers at just one member! :)
Re: Well, some people think that...
I'm glad that you took my post okay. I thought my post was harsh, but unfortunately, I have had that experience with co-ed situations. It's just common fact, a good looking lady out front is going to get the attention. It's hard to stick with the "all for one attitude" when everyone cares about one person(male or female, ask Bush). But anyway, good luck!
You seem really cool. Hope it works out!

:Nice replies Ganja. Just don't "do it" w/the lead player. It usually happens...trust me. Then someone gets jealous, etc.
Re: Female Lead Singer in Search of Serious ORIGINAL Co-Ed Metal Band
Don't you wish guys would quit thinking will there dick and just listen to you.
