I am not sure. I am also interested in this topic, I own a Starfield Teak Custom built in the beginning of the 90's (made in Japan). It has a well crafted two piece teak wood body. The finish is natural and waxed. This guitar is absolutely great. The only thing I modified were the pickups. Originally it was equipped with two lipsticks but I made a new pickguard and put a Fender Gold Lace Sensor and a DiMarzio Fast Track in. It sounds dry and crystal clear. A little bit like a Tele. Good for blues and funk. This guitar is a killer.
Now, to you question: Starfield Guitars were a subsidiary (daughter company) of Ibanez. I heard it was founded because Ibanez had too much employees and few work at this time. So the instruments were built by the Ibanez Custom Shop (I am not really sure about this) for a cheaper price. Two Series: The more expensive American Series (made in USA) and the Japan Series (made in Japan). But the models where not the same. My Teak Starfield was only available in the Japan Series. The quality was very good. Good value for money. I cannot compain about my guitar (it is not my main axe, I prefer my extremely customized Fender Strat Plus) and I will probably never sell it. I play in an ELvis Cover Band and it perfeclty suits the 70's where James Burton played. I play it over a Peavey 5150 and a Custom Hiwatt 100.
More, I don't know at the moment.

Some of the brands I'm looking at are the "Dimazzio blue velvets", "Rio Grande", "Halfbreeds" "Tallboys" pickups...any comments on these pickups in terms of sound flexibility,good combinatios of one or two of these together, testimonials. The objective is to maintain flexibility across most of the music genre, with a need to ensure that tone and separations is maximised especially in a variety of venues eg. outdoor, indoor, dull, bright.

Floyd Rose's are great, but they're extraordinarily annoying to adjust. You have to remove the string to adjust the intonation (do this only one string at a time or you'll really play hob putting it back together). With the string removed there should be either an allen screw in front of the saddle. You have to loosen it and move the saddle where you want it. If it won't move far enough you have to remove the screw and put it in another screw slot, there are two or three in the bridge itself. What a pain in the neck it all is.

Bummer. It will be VERY difficult to replace, especially since you don't know what model. a 30's or 40's vintage Martin will cost BIG $$$ in decent shape, IF you can find one. I live in the Minneapolis area, you might try www.williesguitars.com They specialize in vintage american guitars in my area. They may know some other possibilities if they can't help. By the way, I own a 1950 Martin 0-15. Like most vintage Martin owners, I would never sell it. Thats going to be the hard part. Sorry.
