THE CORRECT SPEAKER CAB FOR MY POD AND ROCKTRON POWER AMP???
PLEASE HELP
Re: THE CORRECT SPEAKER CAB FOR MY POD AND ROCKTRON POWER AMP???
: PLEASE HELP
That's easy ... use a Rocktron cabinet for your Roctron amp:
http://www.rocktron.com
Or since you use a POD, use a Line 6 cabinet:
http://www.line6.com
I'd also look into Carvin cabinets:

Great guitar website
Check out this great guitar website which has tons of links to guitars, amps, and guitar related websites. It loads slowly, but it's packed and worth the wait. Like that page says, bookmark it immediately because chances are you'll never find it again.

It's a great amp. I say that with 30 years experience. I bought a used 410 model. It sounded fair. I put in new Svetlana 6L6GC power tubes and Sovtek 12AXLPS preamp tubes and it became a great amp with big fat rich TONE!

Hey i replaced a lipstick tube pickup with a Seymore Duncane pickup just about a month ago
and it sounds great, some routing and fabrication was needed but i had a pro do it and it was
one of the best guitar related investments i have ever made.

Maybe it's your pre-amp and amp that's the "problem", not your pickups.

Is a Gibson Les Paul Studio still a quality Guitar?
I purchased a 97 Les Paul Studio (White, gold hardware, ebony fingerboard. It plays great

have so much money. Can anyone tell me if I made a good investment and does the studio have lower

the studios are fine instruments and depending on the year they have the exact same elecs as any other high end paul.....what your paying less for is the grain of the wood which in your case is painted white and the binding which is time consuming and done by hand ......sure youd like a flame top and some day you might get one but chance are it will sound no different and play no different....itll just look cooler.......I have the only color that is stained and not painted(wine)....and I played every custom...standard..and studio that I could find and decided that the one that felt the best was my LP studio.......now I wouldnt trade a raw power LP for it....Ill have to have them both

Right Hand Speed Picking (a la Trey Azagthoth...)
What's up everyone,
I'm a guitarist who, for months, has been trying to develop my right hand speed (I was a total legato player, my picking was at zero.) Getting into death metal guitar-styles (Morbid Angel's Trey Azagthoth, for instance) and listening to lots of jazz has helped me realize how important right hand technique really is.
So, my question is if you people know any tricks or tips for developing this facet of guitar playing. I use Dunlop Tortex .88's which I sharpen to a point. I use a metronome (responsibly) while I practice and know about the 'Stylus Pick' trick where you must 'feel' the tip of the pick while you're playing.
Any advice?
Thank you in advance,
~~Raven~~
Re: Right Hand Speed Picking (a la Trey Azagthoth...)
Hey Raven!
Any fan of trey's I'll be happy to pass some hints.
I use Dunlop sharp point 1.35 picks with very heavy gage strings. (.13-.56) The strings don't help with the speed picking, but the picks do. Also, I excercise my right hand by squeezing a rubber ball while sitting around. I learned this trick while I was a pitcher and noticed my picking became much more accurate and quick.
Now for the fun part. Try to learn, note for note various "difficult" solos AND rhythms. I tend to favor Death songs from Human and The Sound of Perserverence but Morbid Angel will do fine. Learn these in band situations so what you screw up, you can't just stop.
Learning Jazz voicings help due to the funny picking.
Hope this helps and "let the metal flow!"

Re: Right Hand Speed Picking (a la Trey Azagthoth...)
I dont know what a la Trey Azagoth is but I know one thing. Speed picking is in the elbow not the hand. Use heavy gauge pick and use the elbow. NO WRIST!!!!
Some facts about speed picking
I spent a little time with Al Dimeola just before I left to attend Berklee and he held my wrist and hand and showed me how his picking technique is derived 100% from the wrist. No elbow. Onthe other hand, I took several lessons from Harry Leahey and he showed me how his technique is derived 100% from the elbow. The point is that no one technique is correct for everyone. You can read more about this in the Stylus Pick method which you can get at www.styluspick.com.
Great posts, everyone, Rock On!

NO WRIST!!!!
Speed picking can be developed by many ways. The elbow only coment is somewhat unfounded. However if you want speed the elbow should function like where a ROD is connected to a crankshaft and your pick is the piston. The wrist will help a great deal when it comes to string skipping. Also to better define my argument watch EVH when he does his tremelo/speed picking its almost all wrist and trying to emulate that will drive ya crazy.
GET a metronome and practice chromatic and scalular exercises using down, up picking.
Also make sure you can move from string to string fluintly.
K. Hammett would just sit and watch TV while playing open strings.
Developing skills like Trey's is admirable but find your own voice because music will come out of you then.
Re: Right Hand Speed Picking (a la Trey Azagthoth...)
: Players whose instructional videos you should get for right hand technique:Al DiMeola, John Petrucci from Dream Theater, Steve Morse, and Eric Johnson. I recommend using Dunlop Jazz III picks to build up your techinque. I'd stay away from the training picks and get used to using a real pick, and using the same one consistently. Stiff picks are tough to use in the beginning, but with practice you will begin to realize that the stiffness is crucial to making a positive connection with the string when you pick it. E-mail me back with your thoughts.

Re: Right Hand Speed Picking (a la Trey Azagthoth...)
Take the most difficult techniques and repeat them until your mucles are burning as much as you can handle.no pain no gain.Try creating your own difficult techniques and do them until your burning.like lifting weights.........Dont forget to stretch

I want to set up a Telecaster like a Strat
Does anyone know where I can get a pickguard for a Telecaster with the neck, and middle pickup holes set to take Strat type single coils? I love my Strats, but the Tele is for me.
Re: I want to set up a Telecaster like a Strat
You could either:
A- Just cut the holes in the existing one
B- But another one and cut holes in that
C- Buy Material from Stew-Mac and make your own
D- Maybe Warmoth makes one that's S-S-S?
Good luck,

mesa triple and dual rectifiers
does the triple rectifier have any major advantages over the dual besides 50 extra watts? which would you recommend for brutal distortion? also, i've only seen the triple in a goldish color, but does it come in black, too?

Any recommendation:pc recodrng soundcard<150pound..thanks
for guitar and keyboard composition....and vocal too
Re: Any recommendation:pc recodrng soundcard<150pound..thanks
Okay there are 2 considerations, if you just want to record in high quality use a sound blaster live value at £45, don't spend your £150 on the full live or platinum, they are the same card with the same synth but have 5.1 decoder. Trust me I have set up many studios & know. However what you must consider is, are you going to record vocal or guitar onto a seperate track whilst the sound card is playing the backing track? If you are then you need a full duplex card. Now let me say this very clearly no sound blaster card is full duplex. It may say so on the box, but what it doesn't say is that it only does this in shitty 8 bit, plus if you wish to add an effect ie an aural exciter or vocal harmonizer on the fly the latency is so long your ears & mouth will just go pare shaped. So this card is only good for recording 1 track at a time with no effects added on the fly. If I was you I would save you hard earned cash & buy a Yamaha sw1000xg which I have also fitted in many professional studios. In a nutshell it's the dogs bollocks. Read some reviews or check out their web page at http://www.xgfactory.com/
Best Wah Pedal To Buy
I'm wondering which wah pedal i should buy, i heard the cry baby are good but i have never used one.
Re: Best Wah Pedal To Buy-cry baby 535
that depends on what type of wah u want. I have tried almost all kind oh wah, but it seems that only dunlop 535Q cry baby rules! this babe got 6 different setting of different wah. u can even control that wah level and variation level under the stomboxes( it seems to be the only drawback cos u need to turn the whole thing over and adjust,BUT as a engineer i know that design will ensure the best durability of the unit)
it will wah your balls to the wall......
dont get some stupid wah with not much variation in wah level...cos we r (at least i am ) not reach enought to buy a wah and we cant hear clearly the difference b4 and afther using it.
Re: Best Wah Pedal To Buy-cry baby 535
i mean RICH
Re: Best Wah Pedal To Buy
I have the basic original regular 'ol Dunlop Crybaby, and I love it. They are only about $60 new. It's the classic wah sound with no gimmics, no nonsense. Just pure growling tone. I wouldn't get a used one because wah pedals tend to get a lot of abuse and they aren't that expensive new.

Can't find right Fender Amp!!
I've had a Blues Deville, a 70's Twin Reverb and a reissue Vibrolux reverb. Still not satisfied. I'm looking for a lowdown, dirty but powerfull sound. Not too big or too heavy, suited for small club-gigs. An amp that also sounds rich on low volume!!!
Re: Can't find right Fender Amp!!
Why not try a Deluxe reverb? Not one of those new Hod rod deluxe's, an older silver or blackface model.

Tone, Total bollocks or the mystery gift from the guitar gods?
Tone, Total bollocks or the mystery gift from the guitar gods?
With all our Fx pedals, studio gear, mixed-string gauges, guitars, changing pick ups, putting our speakers on wooden floors, spinning turntables & playing whilst hanging upside down in the shower room, what are we achieving. What is all this talk about tone, what is it, who’s got it, how do you copy it & how do you get good tone of your own. Is this a load of bollocks or the most important area of guitaring? If so why? All I know is in the last 3 yrs I have played with more knobs than Pamela Anderson, only to later to find out tone is also all in the picking, style on playing & technique. Clearly no-one really knows where tone is, & all I know is when someone finds him, the last thing they do is tell every fucker else. So if you have found our tone, please tell us! Phil.
Re: Tone, Total bollocks or the mystery gift from the guitar gods?
Amen Brother. Tone, or what ever you want to call it depends a great deal on how tasty the playing is. However, obviously those same flavourful licks will sound better or worse to some degree depending on the gear. We shouldn't send the message that you can buy tone.

:My main rig use to be a Gibson 345 through a Twin. I had a LP style axe made for me at the time I was useing the 345. Upon hearing the CUSTOM made LP,all my band members stated,"the 345 sounds better." Now,so everyone understands, that was me playing both axes, through the Twin, useing the same picks and cord. Also the same songs. Is someone going to say that they WEREN'T hearing a TONAL difference in the guitar??
Re: Tone, Total bollocks or the mystery gift from the guitar gods?
Hmm.A difficult question.Tone quality is a subjective thing. What sounds good to you or I may sound like shit
to someone else.I think a lot of it depends on your ear
and musical influences, this will shape your perception
of tonal quality.Like Women(no disrespect) who want to look like Cindy Crawford,we strive to sound like our guitar heros, often in vain.Studio technology can change and re-arrange sounds tremendously,so it'almost impossible to get the same tone. Also, a lot of the tones we hear are usually accidents that sound good.My first instructor wouldn't teach me riffs or solos because he wanted me to sound like MYSELF.I don't have the fingers of Eddie V.,Ray Gomez,or Billy Gibbons.I can only try to understand where these dudes are coming from.In the end I think it's really about picking YOUR tones and style and being happy with our own sound.
Play on players!
