Eddie G is right. But if your not going to take lessons, a good place to start is to try and mimic your favorite songs, not just the notes and chords, but the sound as well. It is always good to practice scales, but don't limit yourself to just pentatonic scales. If you don't read tab , learn it.

Hmm.Take your time and make sure your fingers are properly curled over the fret board.Position your left hand so that only the tips of your fingers are pressing
the notes.Then strum up and down,just brushing the strings.Try not to press the strings too hard,you only need a little presure to ring the notes.Playing clean chords will take some practice.So,put in at least two hours a day doing just that.You'll get it.

I don't know what you mean by "twisting" the arm. You should either push the arm down towards the body, or pull it up to change the note or chord (or go back and forth for a tremolo sound). The arm shouldn't be screwed in tight. It should just hang there until you want to use it. It sounds like to me that you are trying to screw it in farther to use it, instead of pushing down or pulling up ??

I've find the Seymour Duncan Custom SH-5.. does it's a good pickup for punkrock, hardcore, ska? The D.C. Resistance is 14.1k.. if I found another pickup with 14.1k of D.C. Resistance, does it will have the same sound?

I get a great maiden sound out of my strat (Phantom, Aces, 2mins etc). I use a mashall jackhammer distortion pedal, touch of reverb, & the secret weapon, a pitch shifter (very different to chorus). If used correctly a pitch shifter is awesome for thicking sounds, what I do is send the right channel down a 10th of a semitone & the left up a 10th. I am not a great lover of expensive guitars, look at it his way man went to the moon on technology that was weaker than a scientific calculator which was placed in a washing machine, but look at the pc's we have today. The same is for guitars on the whole £250 get's you a great guitar. I am sure many of the older players would agree that us babies are very spoilt for choice. SO on that note, just think of how many FX units are out there, today you can get almost any sound these units & of course you ears. However the only sound that I think a strat just can't get, or any other guitar for that matter is the gibson SG, if I ever get rich I am going to by me a few of these. See YA phil

Hello Death Metal fellow!

The best guitars for death grind are Jackson\Charvel or BC Rich. You also need nice and hot pick ups. (The X2N will do great!) You also need a gainey amp.
Death Metal needs sustain which bolt on guitars(like the strat) don't do well. Idealy you want a neck through axe with a pair of humbuckers. A mahogony or koa body would help also.
