Re: how to place mic for recording of acc. guitar?

: Hi all,

: I have a condenser mic (AKG C2000B) and want to record some accoustic guitar tracks.
: Where exactly do I place the mic in order to get the best sound? Above the guitar?

: Bodo
PLACE A CONDENSER(SMALL SIZE ELEMENT) IN BETWEEN WHERE NECK MEETS BODY ABOUT 5 INCHES FROM SOUNDHOLE.
YOU CAN PLACE ANOTHER MIC ON MIDDLE OF NECK
KEEP EQ FLAT WHEN RECORDING AMD EQ DURING MIXDOWN.
TRY USING AKG 451 MICS-THEY;RE AWESOME.

J-Station Rocks don't go RED!!!!

Hi evryone.....

I have a J-Station and that is te best.... You can not undersand that from this Black Box comes so much good sound and a lot of FUN....

I have a RP100 and I tryed some POD'S.....

Don't go RED Please... this Red thing is like a SUMMER love... you like it the first two days and then you have to go for something else!!!!

The J-Station is much more controlable and has more REAL Amp sound the POD Line6 sound good but it's to much noise that you don't need... and in there try to make it better they made something that is far from a real Amp sound...

You may like it but it's not real amp sound....

Re: J-Station Rocks don't go RED!!!!

I agree. POD may have more distortion models but J Station has more variety and far better clean sounds like the Fender Twin Reverb & Twead.

Re: J-Station Rocks don't go RED!!!!

I agree I have a J Station too and I like it like my live... the POD is just "dirt" only for noise music...

Tom

j-station and pod walk together!!!!!!

right people, this is a discussion that doesn't take anywhere!i'm lucky to have both pod a j-station,and true...the pod does better on high gain and modern amps
and the j-station does better on clean and vimtage amps, and if you go to their respective websites they both say this!!!
now i love these things, but never ever has anything come close to the real tube amp!!!
the response,the sound...everything.
these tools are made for direct recording!!!and offer an
acceptable "ALTERNATIVE" for the real amps on stage!
bottom line:if you want to record with good sounds on a budget pod and j-station are the answer..................want a good sound live, well save up some money and buy the real thing!!!!!!!

Gibson Guitars

I have 1963 southern jumbo accoustic and i love it how much would it be worth? I was offered 2 grand for it

Re: Gibson Guitars

Depending on what kind of shape it's in, it's possibly worth even more. A thing to note, if it has a good neck, plays well and has a nice sound, I would keep it if I were you. The new Gibsons are crappy compared to the old ones, especially the ones made up to about 1968 or so. They made the best sounding flattops I've ever heard back then...better sounding than any Martin I've ever played.

Seymour Duncan pickups

I have bought a second hand USA Standard Strat fitted with a Seymour Duncan JB at bridge, SD Duckbucker at neck and SD Hot Rails in middle position.
I would like some opinions as to whether this is the best combination and whether I should swap them about, or use one or more in another Strat that I have which is fitted with standard pickups(Fender Japan circa 1982. I would be prepared to buy additional pickups for the Japanese Strat to go with the SD ones if worthwhile. What do you think ?

Re: Seymour Duncan pickups

Hi,

It depends what type of tone you are looking for. The Duncans are good pickups but are hotter than your average pickup. The hotrail and duckbucker are also humbucking pickups that fit in a single coil space.
If you want the traditional Strat sound you may want to put actual single coil pickups. If you want a hotter more modern sound stick with the Duncans.

Re: Help Me With Solos

I would suggest that you put some pentatonic licks in there and mix them with arpeggios. Lately in kirks solos he has used alot of pentatonics expecially in the load/reload albums. Also when soloing use your pinky alot. Use it to hit some high notes and bends. Hope this helps.

Cheap guitar modifications

I have a fender squire electric guitar (pretty cheap I know) and a pro 185 fender amp, I have only been playing the electric for about 4 months and was hoping someone could explain some modifications that could improve the quality of the guitar...... any help will be greatly apprectiated.

Thanks

Re: Cheap guitar modifications

Hi,

The first thing I would do is change the pickups. Generally in cheaper guitars the pickups are of very poor quality and the Squire is no exception.
This will cost ya about $150 for the pickups and the installation. You can save yourself about $75 of that if you buy used pickups and install them yourself.
Other mods people will do on their Squires are:
Replace tuners, the bridge, and the pots(volume and tone) with just higher grade stuff.

Hope this helps.

Re: Cheap guitar modifications

1. Pickups: Changing pickups will change the tone of the amplified guitar. I'm guessing you play rock, so I'm saying a Seymour Duncan JB, Seymour Duncan Invader, Dimarzio Super Distortion or a Seymour Duncan Distortion. There are many more types of pickups, check www.seymourduncan.com for more info. If you look around on the internet, you should be able to find some good pickups for around $40-$80.

2. Tuners: These are the most underrated part of a guitar. The keep the guitar in tune, and on most cheaper guitars, they don't work so good. If tuning is a problem, better tuners would be wise. www.stewmac.com carries a large selection of tuners from most of the best makers. About $25-$70

3. Saddles: These things are the little metal things that hold the strings up at the bridge(where the strings go through the body) try www.stewmac.com about $10-$20

Re: Cheap guitar modifications

The first thing I'd do is trade that guitar for anything with a humbucker! You realy shouldent bother changeing your guitar. I'm not just being an ass, it's just that your guitar plus the money you would spend upgradeing you could buy a better guitar.(seriosly)
If you like the guitar and dont want to get rid of it I would get on ebay and find some cheap used dimarzios
or semore duncan pickups. A roller nut new bridge and tuners will improve the tuneing and sound greatly.
If you want a cheaper fix for the bridge you can get string saver saddles insted of replaceing the whole thing. I know alot about guitars and if you have more detailed questions I would love to help just e-mail me at [email protected] Hope I helped

Re: Cheap guitar modifications

can I add a tone capacitor between my pickups and the active electronics in my bass to match up the input and hold down the noise? Or do I have to change the pickups?

you can fit a left hand bridge to the strat (like stevie ray vaughn) you get a much richer sound out, but its a little bit harder to bend the strings. i,ve done it to my squier strat it through a marshell amp unit the sound is amazing.

Re: Cheap guitar modifications

yea, shitcan it and buy something good.

Re: Cheap guitar modifications

Don't let anybody shoot down your rig.As long as you get a sound you want, play it. I have seen alot of great players with Squires/Epiphones/Danelectros/Kays,etc. because they don't want to ( or can't afford to ) alter a "real" Fender. Make sure you have the action set up for your style, if you don't know much about that, read a little in Guitar Mag's. Ask your local techs. Do a little experimenting with the height of your strings and position of your pickups. Then, look into different kinds of strings, they make a big difference in your sound, (gage, make of string)A cool strat mod is the addition of a fat Gibson style humbucker. You'll need help with the set-up of that, but it really gives you alot more options in your sound. Play it hard! The guy that told you to get rid of your guitar is a dick.

Hi,
you might wanna try manny's or mandolin bro.

I NEED HELP... please!!!

URGENT:

When my computer crashed a few weeks ago, I lost everything... I have it back now, and have sorted out most of my problems, except for a few, one of which is Microsoft Word 97...
I had around 200 fonts, including "Copperplate Gothic"...
however, I now have the 'basic' maybe 35 fonts... how do I download others?
Most of the sites I found you have to pay for them... but I know I didn't ever download any fonts, so where did they all come from, and where is a few good sites where I can download some...?
Help me guys :)
~Mystical

Re: I NEED HELP... please!!!

Some good places to download fonts are:
http://www.freepcfonts.com/index.html

To donwload from these websites you need WinZip. Go to http://www.winzip.com Download the 8.0 evaluation version. Install it and go to those sites again. Pick a font and download it. Most of the sites have instructions on how to install the fonts. That is all

bridging solo boxes??

I have learned all the boxes or positions in the minor and major keys except when I solo, I am still confined to the boxes and feel that I just jump from box to box instead of smoothly incorperating one to the next. Are there any exercises that I can do to make it look as though I am playing around the neck smoothly without it looking like I am useing box forms? Are there any bridging exercises?

Evening, You say you can play the box forms of scales in both major and minor keys. The trick is now to play these scales throughout the neck. Here is something to think about. Lets just use the 5th fret on the E-string. Play the major scale of 'A' in that position.
Now there are 6 different places (standard size neck)
in which to play this 'A' major scale. Find the starting point of where the 'A' major scale begins and ends in these positions. In other words start thinking side to side motions instead of up and down motions.
The more you work through playing these scales this way the more fluent (sorry spelling) you will become in playing throughtout the neck. This way to you will be able to play anywhere without thinking about where your fingers have to be for the next motion. I'm telling you though, start slow and work into it. The speed will come with time and some will the motion. It will get to a point that you will hear something and be able to play it without guessing. Take Care Hope this helps some.. PEACE R.D.

Re: bridging solo boxes??

Forget boxes, scale theory etc
They will only limit you. What you need is to develop pitch.
Here's what I think you should do to free yourself from all these 'laws':
Close your eyes and put your hands on the neck and feel your way to the notes you want to hear. It's hard as hell at first but in the long run you'll learn NOT TO THINK while playing.
People have made theory out of miles davies playing, but it's a fact that he left a lot of mistakes simply because those 'wrong' notes sounded great.

Lessons/Instruction

I live in a rural area and have been trying to learn guitar for the past couple of years. I have picked up quite a bit but have found that I really benefit from having a teacher. The problem that I face is finding someone that gives lessons. Most instructors that I have been able to find live 75-80 miles away. Most players who live in the area either don't hang around too long or aren't qualified teachers. Moving is not an option due to family and present job obligations. Can anyone recommend any videos or books that have proven to be successful? Any advice would be welcome. Thanks!

why

is it really necessary to go thru all of those pop ups to get where we need to go????????????????????????
