Humbucker guitar or 3 single coiled pickups for jazz/blues and rock
I am thinking of getting a Fender Standard Mexican Fat Strat becasue i am planing to play the guitar for my school jazz band. I was looking for adive to see if i should get a fat srtat(humbucker) or just get a standars strat withot a humbucker. They play some soft jazz and blues and songs around that area. I heard them play "do the hustle"(by Van McCoy) and some other songs like that. I would appreciate it if anyone culd help me!!!
Re: Humbucker guitar or 3 single coiled pickups for jazz/blues and rock
I would recomend that you get a strat with 3 single coil pickups because they give you more of a blues jazzy sound. If you use a humbucker it will give you a more heavy rock sound. You can still get one with a humbucker but set the selector switch so only the two single coil pickups pickup the sound. So than you will have a guitar for jazz and rock. That is if you want a fender. For the best blues/jaz sound i would recommend a Gibson es-335, But those are pretty pricey. Hope this helps.

The amp is loaded with a EV, the valves are jan phillips (these are low gain valves so should aid the clean channel). The guitar is ajohn birch fitted with humbuckers.

Hi!
I have a 15 year old who is a budding bass player and currently has a Samick L1100(?), an Alverez and an Explorer.
I'm thinking of getting him a new bass for his birthday and I would appreciate any advice on something special.
He is an avid Metallica fan and showing some promise as a player.
Thanx!
Re: Metallica advice
Well I would suggest that if he likes older metallica that you might wanna get him a "rickenbacker 4003" those are rather expensive though they run around $1,500. That is the bass that Cliff used. He used a big muff distortion and a morley wah pedal to get the tone he used. Newstead used the same effects. I'm not sure what bass he uses or used but i hope this helps some, A really nice bass is a ernie ball music man stringray 4-string or 5-string, both great basses, those in the $1,000's, if you want a good bass for cheap i would say a spector those are about $500 or so.

unfortunately, studios are the only places to find the "true" sound of these albums. from seeing metallica live, there best sound has been found on recordings.
Guitar Books
I'm a Classical and Jazz player, but my students want popular songs with guitar riffs, from other generas. Any book recommendations?
Re: Guitar Books
I would recommend the "learning in the style of" collections. I'm not sure if they have books but they defitely have videos. They are excellent
the great gnw give away, question
What if you only have 2 of the token things, i got the ones for issue numbers 146 and 147.
Poor Playing
I have been playing for 2 yrs now I can play a few songs (or thought I could). When I hear other people playing it sound a lot better I have asked them why and they say they alternate what strings they hit on each strum. Is there any more info on how to do this
Cheers
Lee

ovation guitar preference
I'm an amateur singer/picker who recently had a 1970's ovation balladeer stolen. I've been watching ebay and currently have 3 choices. There are two anniversary models and one 1967 balladeer. I think the anniversary models are late 1970's. I want another ovation and a legend is out of my price range. I'd like some feedback on these choices. Thanks
