You will need an adapter that will convert your standard headphone plug (Headphone plug is just a reference to the type of plug that was originally introduced some decades ago with the headphones) on your guitar to the new mini jack plug that are found on say your typical walkman ear plugs. You will need a female to male conversion. Radio Shack usually carries these. Be care full though your sound card is in stereo and your electric guitar is in mono ( stereo being two channels left and right where mono is simply one channel). That converter cable has to also change from a mono female plug (where you will connect your guitar cable to) to a stereo mini plug (where you will connect to your sound card).

A guitar usually has a low electrical signal comming out of the cable. This signal is stronger than that from a typical microphone. All of this is simply be carefull where in the sound card you will plug your guitar once you have the conversion cable.

If you plug it into the MICrophone input the guitar signal will be too strong and the volume control of the sound card will not work properly. If you plug it into the LINE IN of the sound card the signal will be a little too weak. But this is the safest place to connect the guitar. Hopefully the amplifier driving your computer speakers is strong enough. If you are doing this simply to record your music then the LINE IN is your best bet. Guitars can have sudden surges in the strength of the signal depending of course on how your are playing the instrument.

The LINE IN will protect your sound card and allow you to play freely.

Have u ever heard about some musical theory that explains the frequencies and notes on an string instrument...well...I won't be that boring (unless you ask me to...)
harmonics can be made on two ways:
- naturals: usually occur when your passing your fingers of your Left hand...very softly over...the strings (like in the 12th position...)
in fact if you have a guitar...and good pickups...and a loud amp...you'll see that everywhere you can have natural harmonics, not so clear than those on the 12th, 9th, 7th, 5th (and its octaves) positions.

- artificials: these are the ones you want...remember I told you that everywhere has a natural harmonic?
so...what you're going to do...is to get a natural harmonic with your RIGHT HAND...while your left hand is playing on anywhere on the fretboard...you'll get the idea...
just pick a with an angle where your thumb hits the string in the next moment you've just picked it...
like if you were picking with matches

For starters a Fender Squire is not the best guitar. Not trying to flame as I like them (Squire) just fine. Its just that in all likelyhood the quality control lets more get by at the end of constrution process. Also the place you bought it may have not set it up properly.
I would do what was said previously and take it to a tech. String size shouldn't cause you that much grief. It does need to be set up for whatever size you have on it though. I have a Dean strat copy as a "beater" guitar and it only cost 200.00 I had to set up the action and intonation when I got home. Its not hard to do but I dont advise it if you dont know what you are doing.

Again the best bet is to take it to a tech.

: I have a Squier Strat and when I play regular chords, G, D, A, etc. they sound kind of flakey. I've noticed that I can easily bend the pitch at the top of the neck by pressing harder on the strings. This isn't so pronounced as I move down the neck toward the body of the guitar. I'm wondering if the fret wires are too thick or if I should use heavier strings. Any ideas out there?

I have had the same problem in the past, until I replaced my amp (Tube Works) with a Marshall VS265 (stereo chorus). But I agree with Steve. You'll never get an exact replica of the 4X12 cab from a Fender amp.

I have used the Marshall "Gov'nor" pedal couple with the BOSS EQ pedal. This was for me a good combination for Rock&Roll sound and modern day cruch(EQ). But I was debating between the BOSS HEAVY METAL and Marshall. I puschased the Marshall because of the Cab simulator that work fairly good.

Hmm.I don't do a lot of palm muting.But the pinky thing seems to be a matter of wrist position and finger placement.Try to get the ball of the pinky directly over the note.You won't need a lot of pressure
once you've changed the pinky position.

: Hey, try using your 1st, 3rd and 4th finger to do your power chords. The 3rd finger gives support to the pinky. Try that out, and just practice moving the shape around. As far as palm-muting, just rest the side of your hand so about 80% of the hand is on the bridge. Make sure your hand is not completly muting the strings. Keep your palm there when you find a sweet spot and just pick. It sould be very percussive. When you get comfortable with that, practice lifting your palm and putting it back down in a rythmic pattern. You can increase your speed and sound over time. CRANK THE DISTORTION!! Peace out.
