yes, i found the site. But too bad that the webmaster said that the site will be not updated. And he needs somebody who knows how to add automatically the submitted patches on the site.
Maybe you or someone could help him make the site can be updated automatically.

Connecting Guitar to Sound Card
I am trying to connect my guitar to my sound card. What connectors, cables, or devices do I need? Clearly my guitar output cable is different from my sound card input. What do I need.
thanks
Re: Connecting Guitar to Sound Card
Steve
You will need an adapter that will convert your standard headphone plug (Headphone plug is just a reference to the type of plug that was originally introduced some decades ago with the headphones) on your guitar to the new mini jack plug that are found on say your typical walkman ear plugs. You will need a female to male conversion. Radio Shack usually carries these. Be care full though your sound card is in stereo and your electric guitar is in mono ( stereo being two channels left and right where mono is simply one channel). That converter cable has to also change from a mono female plug (where you will connect your guitar cable to) to a stereo mini plug (where you will connect to your sound card).
A guitar usually has a low electrical signal comming out of the cable. This signal is stronger than that from a typical microphone. All of this is simply be carefull where in the sound card you will plug your guitar once you have the conversion cable.
If you plug it into the MICrophone input the guitar signal will be too strong and the volume control of the sound card will not work properly. If you plug it into the LINE IN of the sound card the signal will be a little too weak. But this is the safest place to connect the guitar. Hopefully the amplifier driving your computer speakers is strong enough. If you are doing this simply to record your music then the LINE IN is your best bet. Guitars can have sudden surges in the strength of the signal depending of course on how your are playing the instrument.
The LINE IN will protect your sound card and allow you to play freely.
I hope this helps you some.

Re: Connecting Guitar to Sound Card
Another thing to remember is that the mini-jack on the sound card is not very strong so get a short cable to plug into the sound card 6 to 12 inches long then plug the guitar into that cable. The weight of the guitar cable broke the jack on my sound card. I plug my guitar into the microphone input jack and then adjust the level to keep the sound clean. I got very little signal through using the line level connectors. But Im brave and quite able to replace a sound card if I should blow one up! Two years on the current system with no problems but the broken jack.
Re: Connecting Guitar to Sound Card
The best i found to plug my guitar on my computer is the sound blaster live platinum sound card... you have the front pannel with input 1/4jack...
i use it and i enjoy :)

OK, here's the deal...you can make this incredibly easy and fun if you will simply spend $149 at most of your local music stores right now, and get a Johnson J Box. Two things will happen in your life that you will immediately love. The first is that you will have STEREO outputs from the effects box, and they will be at a true LINE LEVEL, which you will be able to adjust with a knob, not a mouse. You will get all kinds of cool sounds-reverbs, distortions, blah , blah, etc., but you will also get a FREE copy of CAKEWALK GUITAR TRACKS II, a Eight (Stereo) Channel software bundle for you PC, that is incredibly easy to use. It has an on screen MIXER, with a TAPE DECK type control panel...You just plug your J Box into your line card, and away you go!

Tomi
Id like to know how to get a high pitched whail from your guitar . Ive heard it before, Ive seen people get a high loud 'eighties metal' from their guitar when fingering on a low fret. Ive heard the term harmonics ,and that they are often used. But when I play them ,they just sound like a little bell , not the screaming of a heavy players guitar. Am I doing them (harmonics)wrong?, or is their another method? .Please give me all of your suggestions. Thanks
Re: Tomi
Hi tomi...
Have u ever heard about some musical theory that explains the frequencies and notes on an string instrument...well...I won't be that boring (unless you ask me to...)
harmonics can be made on two ways:
- naturals: usually occur when your passing your fingers of your Left hand...very softly over...the strings (like in the 12th position...)
in fact if you have a guitar...and good pickups...and a loud amp...you'll see that everywhere you can have natural harmonics, not so clear than those on the 12th, 9th, 7th, 5th (and its octaves) positions.
- artificials: these are the ones you want...remember I told you that everywhere has a natural harmonic?
so...what you're going to do...is to get a natural harmonic with your RIGHT HAND...while your left hand is playing on anywhere on the fretboard...you'll get the idea...
just pick a with an angle where your thumb hits the string in the next moment you've just picked it...
like if you were picking with matches
I don't know if I helped you...just let me know!
:)
see ya!
Re: Tomi
I have something that might help you out. You sound like you want a screaming harmonic sound. To do this,
I do it with my picking hand. I hold the pick regularly, but i put my fingernail of my ring finger down on the string I am picking. If you pick with it on, then lift slightly off, the guitar will go nuts in high-gain situations. Just pick, pull off, and bend your strings as high as you can push. That is the source of the sound.
Another thing that could help you is to turn your amp loader, and face it when you want to unleash your harmonics. The closer you stand, the loader it will get. It also helps a lot if you have a wah-wah petal set to the down position. This pumps the highs, which make the shrieking even more nuts.
Peace.

Chord Problems
I have a Squier Strat and when I play regular chords, G, D, A, etc. they sound kind of flakey. I've noticed that I can easily bend the pitch at the top of the neck by pressing harder on the strings. This isn't so pronounced as I move down the neck toward the body of the guitar. I'm wondering if the fret wires are too thick or if I should use heavier strings. Any ideas out there?
Re: Chord Problems
Hello,
I have only been playing a short time so you might want to get someone elses opinion too, but i also have a squier strat and I don't have that problem. I am using 9 guage strings I think. It sounds to me that you are just fretting too hard. If you have light strings you only need a light touch to fret them. Just push down lightly with the pads of your fingers and you shouldn't have that problem.

Re: Chord Problems
I have the same problem with mine. It's currently with my guitar tech who advised me it's got 10's on it but it's set up for 9's, so the neck is bowed (?).
my advice... get a tech to check.
Re: Chord Problems
Your local guitar tech. can give you a grind and polish.Tell him what area of the neck is troubling you.
Don't let him "scrape" the neck(if it's maple)unless it's bothering you. It's easy to fuck it up.Make sure your frets are polished, not just grinded.
Good Luck
Re: Chord Problems
For starters a Fender Squire is not the best guitar. Not trying to flame as I like them (Squire) just fine. Its just that in all likelyhood the quality control lets more get by at the end of constrution process. Also the place you bought it may have not set it up properly.
I would do what was said previously and take it to a tech. String size shouldn't cause you that much grief. It does need to be set up for whatever size you have on it though. I have a Dean strat copy as a "beater" guitar and it only cost 200.00 I had to set up the action and intonation when I got home. Its not hard to do but I dont advise it if you dont know what you are doing.
Again the best bet is to take it to a tech.

Re: Chord Problems
In defence of my squire (and any others out there), a formula one engine runs crap if its not 'set up' well.
This is not being asked in an antagonistic tone at all (please don't think I'm 'flaming') but how did the Dean strat copy sound/play befor you set it up.
I such a dumb ass..
I put my name and question in the wrong boxes, but please try and help me to find out how to do it
Good Blues...
Does anyone know a CD that has either really good blues on it or is a good blues album to solo to? I'm really wanting something with GREAT guitar in it. Thanks!

I'm pretty impressed with Johnny Winter's "White Hot Blues" has some killer slide guitar.
Re: Good Blues...
You can't beat T-Bone Walker, I know it's old stuff but the way he plays is just GREAT and his stuff is good to play along with.

Re: Good Blues...
Depends what you are into, I've got alot of 'compliation' cd's, one I'ved played around with recently is 'blues gutair heaven' (delta music inc), it's got a good mix of styles (rush, clapton, waters, walker, bloomfield, shines, johnson, hooker, wells, levenson, and guy), and the recording quality is pretty decent (what usually lacks on alot of compilation cd's).
Re: Good Blues...
Freddie King. Singer, player, showman. Favorite album to play with? "1934-1976" and "Larger Than Life".

AMPS-MARSHALL, FENDER, LINE 6
hey
im lookin to buy an amp and im decideing between the marshall dsl 401, the fender hot rod deville 410 or 212, a line 6 amp, and a marshall AVT 150. i really like the tones of the fender, but the distortion is weak, is there a way i could get the fender and get a decent distortion pedal or something to get a marshall old rock and roll distortion. If so what pedal?
THanx for all ur help
steve
Re: AMPS-MARSHALL, FENDER, LINE 6
There are a bunch of good sounding distortion pedals that you can use with the Fender. Remember though that no matter what you use, it'll never sound quite the same, in large part because you need a 4X12 cabinet to really make it sound right.
The Line 6 has the same drawback, it's an open backed single 12 cabinet, you just don't get that tight, bassy response without the right cabinet, regardless of the amplifier used. When you're at the music store, fooling with the amps, try out a few of the different distortion pedals, and see which one you want (try the Boss Heavy Metal, try the Ibanez Tube Screamer, try the Pro Co Rat if they still make it).

Gentlemen
I have had the same problem in the past, until I replaced my amp (Tube Works) with a Marshall VS265 (stereo chorus). But I agree with Steve. You'll never get an exact replica of the 4X12 cab from a Fender amp.
I have used the Marshall "Gov'nor" pedal couple with the BOSS EQ pedal. This was for me a good combination for Rock&Roll sound and modern day cruch(EQ). But I was debating between the BOSS HEAVY METAL and Marshall. I puschased the Marshall because of the Cab simulator that work fairly good.

Power Chords and Palm Muting
-------------
Hello,
I am pretty much a newbie and i'm trying to play some power chords. I use my 1st and 4th finger to play what's below.
-------------
--------5xxx-
--5xxx--5xxx-
--5xxx--3xxx-
--3xxx-------
My problem is that the last string never rings. No matter how hard i push down on my pinky, i can't get a clean tone out of it.
My second problem is the palm muting. It seems like such a simple thing but it just never sounds like it's supposed to. Any advice?
Re: Power Chords and Palm Muting
Hmm.I don't do a lot of palm muting. But the pinky thing seems to be a matter of wrist position and finger placement.Try to get the ball of the pinky directly over the note. You won't need a lot of pressure
once you've changed the pinky position.
Hope this Helps
Re: Power Chords and Palm Muting
First of all use your fingertip only. Using the fleshy part of your finger will lead to bad habits and noise from other strings. What it sounds like is that you need to develop strength in that finger. That comes with practice. Keep trying and dont be discouraged. Dont practice only that for an extended amount of time. If your not enjoying the playing experience put your axe down and get away from it for a bit.
Here is a strength exercise...
Low E (6th string)starting with first fret. 1/2/3/4
A (5th ) 1/2/3/4
etc...
In other words pick all the notes starting on the first fret and on up. Speed up as long as the notes are still clear. To change things up do it backwards ex. 4/3/2/1
Do this from low E to high e. then move up the neck and do it. Spending the first few minutes of your practice routine on this will help and you should see a difference fairly quickly. It is boring but effective. ->EFFECTIVE<- The more you practice the better you will be able to handle the harder stuff.
Finally learn your scales. Learning them backwards and forwards did TONS for my playing and dexterity.

Re: Power Chords and Palm Muting
: Hey, try using your 1st, 3rd and 4th finger to do your power chords. The 3rd finger gives support to the pinky. Try that out, and just practice moving the shape around. As far as palm-muting, just rest the side of your hand so about 80% of the hand is on the bridge. Make sure your hand is not completly muting the strings. Keep your palm there when you find a sweet spot and just pick. It sould be very percussive. When you get comfortable with that, practice lifting your palm and putting it back down in a rythmic pattern. You can increase your speed and sound over time. CRANK THE DISTORTION!! Peace out.

buying a electro/acoutic guitar
What could be the best elec/acoust. guitar for me, in order to have a bit more space between the strings than
most of them and also is around 450 euro in price ?
Can anyone give me an advice on this ?
