:Assuming you are talking about the Custom Shop reissue, I would get a real (vintage) LP Special. They arent that much more expensive. I saw one at GC of all places for 2K. It played like a dream and was in better than good shape.

well first of all that was a waste of freakin time my gosh i can pick really fast and crap, but sheesh that was stinkin terrible there were just loads of nasty in that ....and honesty i think i can play faster than you, and better too , so take that and eat it.

I have an S1. I got a wiring diagram from Gibson's web site through their tech support link. I don't know what I did with mine or else I'd send it to you. It's pretty simple though. Hope this helps.

I think what Mickstar98 and Mikke said is true, you need connections and be at the right place the right time. That'S for the business. But only with that you can not attract the crows for long. You have two proof that you are "IT". Therefor you have to be charismatic and be in some ways fascinating. I played in many beands and it was all crap. I tried to play as fast as I can and make the arrangements as complicated as could be. Then, I started playing in an Elvis Cover Band. We play just rock'n'roll, sooooo simple. Three singers and two of them are charismatic. And we attract the people. And they only care about our show. We could play the biggest trash and nobody would recognize it if the show has been good. It is weird! Rock'n'Roll has no rules...and that is good!

It is sad but it is true. The music only place second stage. Think about how much shit is out there! It's the show that does it and yes, also the charisma. Now, there's the problem that a lot of bands are big for some time and then just die a slow and unnoticed dead only o be replaced by the next hot thing. Other bands just try to be themselves and do what they feel is right. These bands mostly don't reach the big audiences... or so it seems. I know it's dangerous, but i'll give an example: TOOL. Some people have never heard of this band, still they are great. James Maynard Keenan has charisma, the shows are something special, videoclips are pieces of art (the same goes for their cd-booklets) and the music is actually pretty simple but they go about it in such an original way that it seems very complicated.
In the end, it all comes down to lots of practicing, knowing people, a shitload of luck and perseverance. The road to the top is always more interesting than the top itself. It's lonely up there. You might end up knowing a lot of people but when you're at the top people tend to look at you as if you are Mickey Mouse or something. Just do your thing and be good at it.

That's a mighty wide range. It depends on a lot of factors, what year it was made, what condition it's in, where it was made (Kalamazoo or Nashville), anything else special about it (natural finishes are a little less common, but not especially unusual). I'd say anywhere from $3500 to $10,000.

An old friend of my family had a customized Gibson Johnny Smith (cherry red, two pickups, with his name on the fingerrest) that he bought brand new when he worked at Gibson back in the sixties, it cost him maybe $1000, he sold it to a student around 1980 or so for $800, who turned around and sold it 3 or 4 years later for about $3500. Well, the thing sold on Ebay about a year ago for $50,000 because it was a one of a kind, and in fact it's been featured in a vintage guitar calendar and in a vintage guitar book. That just goes to show that little variations can often make a big difference in price.

I'd have the thing evaluated by a competent, honest guitar dealer.
