Re: How much?
The Guitar Center is only one of many places that have decent guitars that are reasonably priced. Check the stores around you and you should find some. For a beginner, I would recommend a "middle-of-the-road" acoustic. Not something that is too expensive, and not the cheapest one you can find. I would say somewhere around $200-$300 should be o.k. The reason I say that one should avoid the cheapest thing around is because it WILL completely turn you off to the guitar. It will give you nothing but trouble. Yamaha makes some great beginner acoustics, check those out. I hope this helps, and good luck! Have fun too.
Re: How much?
Shop around a bit. Let the dealer knowthat you are a beginner and see what they have to offer. But don't buy a really cheap guitar. You will end up with a guitar that wont hold tune an is not so easy to play.
Good valuse can be had from used guitars so don't overlook them.
Good luck with your playing. You can see we all like it a lot.
CAN I MAKE MY WAH PEDAL MORE TREBBLEY?
Hey i just bought a jimi hendrix dunlop wah pedal and when a have it pushes back (the bass end) i can't even hear the notes i play. I was wondering if there is a way to make my pedal go more trebbley so i can get the low end to be out of the space where i can't hear it. thanks
Re: CAN I MAKE MY WAH PEDAL MORE TREBBLEY?
Yes.Remove the rubber feet on the bottom.Next to the POT(tone control)you'll see a little doo-hicky that holds the pot-turner in place.Simply push it aside and tweak the POT.
Good Luck

Hi
Since I'm not that good in computer programing, so I can't help you build a site, but surely I will participate in submitting patches.
I've been searcing all over the net, and can only find 2 sites with ax1000g patches:
1. http://membres.tripod.fr/korgax1000gfx/ (not updated)
2. http://www.mfblues.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/ (Updated, and I submitted some of my patches there)
I can't wait to see your site.

Problems with guitars
Hello to all:
My name is Manuel Romero, and I write you from Barcelona, because I have a
serious problem with two of my guitars.
It is a Fender Stratocaster with esperzel pegs and bridge Wilkinson -Gotoh -;
and a Squier-Fender Stratocaster with pegs and series bridge (Japanese).
Both are in perfect conservation state, and in two the same unheard and
surprising problem that is the following one happens:
When you acts down with the bar bridge, when returning that to their position,
the guitar has been out of tune completely. But the topic is that the tuning
ascends in all the strings, and even in some, until half tone (for example the
sixth string passed E to F). And, surprisingly, when making a simple bending in
each one of the strings these almost return to their correct tuning.
The two guitars have been revised properly and has not been possible to find
the cause of so
strange behavior. Everything seems to work properly. Pegs have been revised,
capo, bridge, etc... and everything seems to work well. Even in one of them the
pegs, the capo and the bridge were substituted, and the problem persists.
An experienced luthier of Barcelona confirms me to have seen this phenomenon in
some few guitars (of models also different) and it could never determine the
cause, and to proceed to the repair.
Are you certain this problem type? Which can the cause of so strange behavior
be? What solution does have?
Thank you and see you.
Re: Problems with guitars
I heard that wilkerson stuff behave strangly. The problem might be with that weird nut.The strings might be getting hung up on them as the tremelo bar returns. Did you check the nut??

Yes, strat trems are not made for heavy diving, better stay out of the water (mr hendrix had this problem also as you can hear on his live recordings..)
there are a few solutions though if you insist on kamikaze exercises:
1.Replace the bridge with Floyd Rose.
2.Replace the tuners with locking tuners.
3.Replace the nut with a graph tech one.
4.Buy a locking nut guitar.
Problem, of course is the nut. Probably the spacing is too narrow for the strings width. Strings will get stuck once the tension is released but will return to their original position when you bend them after trem work. If you don't like all of the solutions, sand the nut a little more so the strings can freely move, oil it (or use graph tech powder) once in a while and learn to, after a down movement with the trem, to finish with a short up movement so the strings can return to their original position.
numbers replacing chords??
i recently came upon a site for THE MAVERICKS and they had the lyrics but instead of chords to show you what to play, there was numbers....so i became a bit annoyed since i have no idea what these numbers represent. if anyone can help me here i would appreciate it very much.
PS thankyou GUITAR SITE !!!
Re: numbers replacing chords??
What kind of numbers were they? Roman numeral, or digit. My guess is that somewhere at the beginning the key of the song was given and the numbers you see represent the chords in the different degrees of the key scale. Let's say the song was written in the key of D Major and you see a "1" or a "I" and then you see a "5" or a "V" and then you see a "2" or a "ii". The numbers stand for a D major chord, an A major chord, and an E minor chord, respectively.
Re: numbers replacing chords??
That's known as the Nashville numbering system, and Phil's right, mostly, although as I understand it you don't use Roman Numerals, just regular Arabic #s. The Roman numerals tell you what fret to put a Capo on, which if you're using the Nashville System, you don't specifically need to be told that, instead of saying Capo II, play like it's in G, they'll just say it's in the key of A and here's the progression, 1 / 4 / 1 / 5 / 1 / 2 / 3 / 6m / 2(7) / 1
In A that's the following chords
A / D / A / E / A / B / C# / F#m / B7 / A
It's a pretty cool system if you know how to use it (I'm not fluent or anything). Also to remember, they have special signs for augmented, diminished, suspended and other jazzy chords, or sometimes they'll just write aug, dim, etc.

yep, they call it Nashville, dont know why cause as long as I remember we use it here in Holland. lets play a "one four five" means: lets play a pentatonic blues..

Re: numbers replacing chords??
They call it the Nashville numbering system because they've been using it in Nashville since the 50s to transcribe songs quickly in a way that lets you play it in any key without having to transpose it in your head.... It's an actual written system, unlike when you say you're going to play a 1, 4, 5 blues.

Heil Talk Box
I just purchased the talk box, and I am having the worst time setting up the connections. I* play out of a rack system. do I need a seperate amp to run the unit?
Re: Heil Talk Box
The best I understand it, yes you need a separate amp, or at least a speaker out that's on a separate power amp....the point being, you have to be able to mute the regular amp's speakers, and switch to the talkbox (I guess you could run 'em both at once, but you'd still have to mute the main speakers).
Probably the easiest way to do it is to get an inexpensive amp with an external speaker jack. Use an a/b box to split the main input into your regular stage amp and into the cheapie so it's one or the other, connect the Heil to the external speaker out of the cheap amp and run it like that. I have a little, all tube, 15 watt Crate that would work great for this actually (you can't have it though, sorry dude).

Where the hell...
Can I find replacement pickups and a wiring diagram for an Epiphone Les Paul SIGNATURE model?? These look kinda like mini-buckers, but they're a little bigger. E-mailed Epiphone, and THEY didn't have any...
Any suggestions? Anybody got any of this stuff and feel like parting with it?

JCB-1
Those humbuckers are lo-impedence JCB-1 pickups and you can get them from Epiphone currently, or of course at ebay and the usual suspect guitar web sites.
Make sure you have the matching lo-impedence switch . . or the guitar is garbage and you might as well mail it to me where I will put it out of it's misery

Capos
I have been playing acoustic guitar for about 3 months and trying to teach myself through tablature and chord charts, but recently I tried to play a couple songs which required a capo on the 2nd fret, My question being how are chords like a G, C or E played with a capo on the 2nd fret? and is there some sort of chord conversion for playing with a capo and if so where could I find this?
Thanks for your help!!
Re: Capos
Put the Capo on the 2nd fret, and pretend that it's the nut...play a regular C chord shape, just like you would without the Capo, you're just gonna play two frets higher than normal. It makes it easier to transpose things. When the music tells you to Capo on 2 and then play a C chord, you PLAY a C, but because the Capo is there, it's actually a D chord (one whole step higher), if you put the Capo on the 3rd fret it becomes a D# (you can also call it an E flat, it's the same thing).
