Re: ELECTRA GUITARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I NEED INFO!!!!!!!!

: : i have an old Electra Les Paul copy. I want to know if these guitars are rare because I think Gibson bought them out and destroyed many of them. I just want any information so help out if you could.TY
If you look in the vintage guide book its probably a 1975-76 exc. cond. between 250-$300 they were bought out by Westone. I just bought one for $300 in mint shape. thats what the book says?

Re: ELECTRA GUITARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I NEED INFO!!!!!!!!

I have an Electra thin hollow body guitar with stop tailpiece, tree of life neck inlay, natural maple, two humbuckers, three-way switch, clear knobs, ser. no. 0777108. I thought it was a mod. X-410 but believe that is wrong. Can you help identify for me and estimate the value. Guitar is in perfect shape.

Thanks,

Nick

GIBSON: THE OLDER, THE BETTER??

i was lookin for used gibson les paul standards and found a couple choices, one is a 1980 model with a few cosmetic scratches and the strap screw has been moved upward (the old one probably got stripped) ($875), the other is a 1977 model in tobacco burst with belt rash ($815), and the last is a 2001 model in mint condition ($710). i have heard the recent gibson stuff is shit, but would like ur input on whcih to purchase
thanx a lot

Re: GIBSON: THE OLDER, THE BETTER??

Fred,

As a rule, the Kalamazoo made Gibsons are better than the Nashville ones. The brand new one is made in Nashville, but that's a ridiculously low price for it (is it an Epiphone instead of a Gibson? A new Les Paul is well over $1500, sometimes up to $3500). The way to tell if the 1977 and 1980s are made in Kalamazoo or Nashville is simple. Look at the serial numbers. If the 5th number is a 0 or 1 it's from Kalamazoo, if it's a 5 or 6 it's from Nashville.

Re: GIBSON: THE OLDER, THE BETTER??

New Gibsons suck? Well, they also said this from the senveties Gibs and Fenders and in a way that was true but now a lot of people think those senventies strats en teles have more character than the new ones. Just decide for yourself, I guess. I would prefer a eighties Gibson, the new ones are way to expensive I think.

SERIEAL NUMBER

hey, i read ur input and i appreciate it a lot. u said in the serial code that the 5th number is 0,1 fro kalamazoo, and 5,6 from nashville. is that 5th number counting from left side or right. cuz the 5th number from the left is an 8, but the 5th number from the right is a 0.

thanx

Re: GIBSON: THE OLDER, THE BETTER??

Ive got the same ? about my serial #........counting either direction mine has a 2.......but mine is a 1990 studio.....so where can I get the info

Re: GIBSON: THE OLDER, THE BETTER??

dont fall for all that vintage crap.......just play them all and decide which one is you.......your not buying this for an investment, your buying it to play......and take a good hard look at the frets to see how worn they are if you go with a used one....trust me its expensive to have them done properly....and even worse if done by the wrong loser.....and you need to be specific about the exact model of the new LP your looking at.....at that price its either stolen(if its a standard or better).....or it may be one of the smartwoods or one of the special purchase studios from one of the superstores.....if the latter that doesnt mean its not a good guitar....its all in what feels good to you

Tubes overheating

I recently got my hands on an old marshall jmp superbass 100w head, it powered up but no sound came out so i replaced 2 of the power valves, still nothing, replaced the preamp vales and it works, but after about 10 minutes of use the valves really fire up and get far too hot, please can anyone help?

Re: Tubes overheating

If you don't know shit about amps, stay away from them and go to a good tech with the sicky. (the voltage can remain in the amp even if you pulled out the lead)

HAs anyone used a SIGMA DR-1ST steel string acoustic before?

HI I'm eyeing a sigma Dreadnaught solid top acoustic steel string at a shop. It sounds great. Does anybody have any reviews for me?

Re: HAs anyone used a SIGMA DR-1ST steel string acoustic before?

I got a Dr-1st last christmas and i have been playing the hell out of it and loving every minute of it! Two of my good friends have seagulls, but the sound quality of my Sigma beats theirs hands down. Plus, I've played with some other people who use more expensive Martin's and my Sigma sounds great along with them. I play a lot of Dave Matthews and John Mayer and both sound great on this guitar. I would highly recommend it to you.

Research help wanted. You'll need a ruler!

Hi Folks,
I'm doing some research for a guitar accessory design I'm busy with and I'd really, really appreciate some help. Guitars come in all shapes and sizes so if you have a guitar I'd like to know it's measurements!! Haa Haa!!

No seriously, I'm looking for the measurement in millimetres of the Thickness of the guitar head (both mine are 15mm) and the distance between the Machine Heads (not the tuning pegs), if any. If there is no space between, how deep is the machine head casing?

If you have a nylon guitar on top of the above measurements I'd like to know the distances from the edge of the guitar head to the open section, the open section and the middle section.

This will help me out big time because for some reason Music Shops don't take kindly to a person attacking their Guitar stock with a tape-measure!!! Go Figure!!
Many, many thanks in advance to anyone that takes the time to help me.
Cheers Mel

Marshall JCM900

Does anyone know what foot switch comes with the Marshall JCM900 (4100) amp? I've tried a ton with no luck. Some did nothing, others cut out my Reveb (with no way to turn it back on).

If you do know, can you send me the model number?

OR if anyone has the schimatics for one, I guess I could make one, if I have to.

Thanks!

Re: Marshall JCM900

pick sliding? dunno wut else to cal it.

how the fuck do punkrock bands get the sound they do by sliding their picks up the length of the strings of their guitars?! m in a punkrock band, and i cnt fr the life of me figure it out! sux because it's a sound so integral to punkrock. am i doing something wrong, or is it the amp or guitar i use( it's prbly me, tho) i use a US strat nd a mesa boogie. i don't fukn get it! someone out there please fukn help me out!!!

Re: pick sliding? dunno wut else to cal it.

Ok, this probably wont help u at all cuz i dont play punk. but if u mean scratching ur pick against the thick strings (E,A,D) then ill just tell u how i do it. i hold the pick at a 45degree angle pointing towards the headstock, then just kinda push the pick smoothly across and slightly push down. u could also do finger slides on the fretboard to give some more affect. this probably wont help much, but good luck

Re: pick sliding? dunno wut else to cal it.

If what the previous guy said doesn't make it work, for whatever reason, try turning up the treble on your amp? And make sure you're using the bridge pickup on your strat. If you're having trouble getting the exsact sound that you are going for (I mean tone of the "slide"), I'm not sure what kind of punk you are playing (Oldschool or Newschool) but alot of the new punk stuff uses chorus and reverb effects to make some the tones the way they are. -If this wasn't too much information.

man, just grab your pick put it near the bridge and scratch it down your strings(thick ones e, a ,d)it helps if the pick is vertical to the ground too
