Setting up a guitar

Active electronics are pickups that require a battery to operate, and to provide a boost in sound/signal.
EMG pickups (higher end models) are active. Look into the EMG 81. Regular pickups(no battery) are refered to as "Passive".

Carvin Guitars

: : I ordered a carvin about 6 years ago. Their quality sucks. The guitar I received had a backbowed neck that was so bad it couldn't be adjusted. The frets looked like they were half filed down with a coarse file and had sharp
burrs.The pickups also sucked. I drove back to the factory to return it. When I tried to show them the defect, they ignored me and wrote on the return receipt the "Customer didn't like guitar",without mention that the guitar was defective. I feel sorry
for the next sucker they shipped this guitar to. Don't waste your money,go to a discounter or musician's friend and buy a good guitar like a fender or gibson,etc.Hope this keeps you from making a mistake with a Carvin.

I've played Carvin gear for 20 years , and have also owned lots of classic stuff. I would rate their Guitars as good as any fender or gibson I have played. they have real nice necks, have first rate build quality, and are certainly a deal price wise, especially if you get some of the nicer options like flamed or quilted tops. They sound real good too, and if you want to change the sound you can always add after market pickups. They will let you return the guitar after 10 days if you don't like, but believe me you won't return it.

Ive just recently sold my Carvin. It was quite simply the biggest mistake of my life. It was also the greatest guitar I have owned. I am now currently lookin for another one! So yeah, buy one!

fret buzz all over

i did a fret file to clean up some noisey fret buzz that i had. after ajusting the nut height and trem height and also ajusting the truss rod , step by step trying to find the problem , the buzz is now all over , how can i fix this problem as its a nice guitar . any help welcome thanx

You didn't say what kind of guitar, or how you filed the frets, etc. How low is your action set at the 12th fret? What gauge of strings are you using? What tuning are you using? (standard or dropped?)
All these things affect string buzz. If you used a flat file on your frets you can expect a lot more buzzing (especially if the neck relief is too little and you've eliminated the crown of the frets).

You should also be aware that sometimes neck adjsutments require a short set period. You're dealing with wood and a metal rod when you make adjustments, which is why you need to do them
gradually. If your neck is too straight (without any relief) you'll have to set the action higher to eliminate buzzing.

fretbuzz on the open strings and eight fret

i adjusted the truss rod trying to stop the buzz that i had but now it's two times worse:(. (somebody told me to do that, and i listened to them...maybe i just didn't carry it out right) if anybody can help me pleeze tell me how!! i don't care if the guitar turns out perfect, i just want it to be as good as it was before i started screwing around with it.
