Re: fret buzz on the open and the eighth/seven fret

When changing to lighter strings neck might bend in a backward bow.

Press a string on first fret, and on the fret where neck meets body at the same time.
Measure high of string over 7th fret usually(close to middle of frets pressed).

A high of 0.4 millimeters or so shouldn't be to bad. If string touches any fret middle tighten tross rod until you get it about right.

After that work mostly with string overall high with bridge adjustment.

I need, I've just seen a face acords or tablature of this Beatle song.

Hi, I want this acord if somebody could help me or telling me where I can find it, ok?, thanks. cya.

Re: I need, I've just seen a face acords or tablature of this Beatle song.

check a book called "The Complete Beatles Scores". I'm pretty sure that's the right title (if not it's close enough). It's great it's got chords, lyrics, and tab/music for every instrument used on every song. By the way, the guitar part on "I've Just Seen a Face" is actually two guitars according to this book.

Good Bass Amps?

I am a guitar player but just got an Epiphone SG style bass and I'm stoked! Any good ideas on what is a good practice amp for bass but would be loud enough to be played over drums. Doesn't have to be too loud. Thanks!!!

Harke make a single 15" bass combo that's kinda pumpin'.

Replacing Les Paul Parts

I own a 1973 Les Paul Custom Black Beauty. It is good condition apart from the Gold Hardware being very tarnished so its nearly all gone. Should I replace the hardware eg the pickup covers etc to make it look new? Will it affect the value of the guitar if i put newer parts on it?

Re: Replacing Les Paul Parts

you shouldnt even be thinking about fixing up an old guitar, especially an old gibson, they are crap. It is like the rumour that old wine is better, no way, fresh wine is much tastier. put your guitar in the bin, and put your head down the toilet for being so crap !!!. love Bob

Re: Replacing Les Paul Parts

Go ahead and buy some new parts for it if you like, just keep the old original ones if your that concerned about originality. There's nothing wrong with "restoring" it.

Programming AX1000G to sound like ibanez tube screamer

Has anyone tried to come up with the settings to make a the korg toneworks AX1000G sound like the old Ibanez Tube Screamer? If so what setting did you use?

I'm sorry

I've been so stupid over the past weeks. You see, my wife left me and I have no friends. The only 'friends' I have are you people on this here board. I'm so sorry. I mean that from the bottom of my heart. Happy Christmas to you and all of your families.

Re: I'm sorry (my ass). the bob below is truly beneath me

people are so "IN AWE" of me, that they pretend to be me, how sad, they are so ashamed of who they really are, they invent new identities or steel someone elses.

Re: I'm sorry (my ass). the bob below is truly beneath me

I try and apologise and someone spoils it by pretending to be me, posting some garbage and trying to make it look like I'm mentally affected or something. Shame on you.

what is it worth?

telecaster, squire, blue, carved top,two humbuckers, two control knobs;the tone knob has a push pull setting, guitar has an alder neck

Trying to develop my own fusion style- could any jazz players please give me some advice?

Fellow guitarist,
I've been a rock player for years and found myself in the common "pentatonic rut" that many rock players get stuck in. To break out, I learned the major scale , all modes, inside and out.
I've decided, since my entire focus is on composing and not playing covers, to actually forget standard chord shapes and names. Instead, I build chords out of the surrounding scale, which opens up alot of creative possibilities. I don't even care what the chord is named, its relative function, tonality, whatever. Just that it works within the scale and sounds good.I can always figure out what it is for purposes of transcribing.
I've noticed my chords, melody lines, chord melodioes , and leads all beginning to blend together in a very musical and melodic flow. Before I was stuck playing a chord, then maybe throwing in a riff, then playing more chords, etc.
Anyway, this new technique, although having many benifiets, also seems to highlight my lack of knowledge regarding harmonic structures. There seems to be something missing, and I'm guessing if I change keys it will give my playing more harmonic flow.
For example, is it common to change keys to follow a progression, like I IV V. If I'm playing C mix, can I change to F mix then G mix?
You're probably wondering why I just don't experiment, but I was just curious if this is the common method.Or perhaps is it common to just stay in C mix and achieve harmonic flow by focusing around the I, IV, and V within the one scale.
One of the reasons I'm alittle confused is that commonly a I,IV, V would be maj, maj, 7th, and if I change keys the V won't necessarily have that 7th feel.
I have written numberous songs already with the new system, and I love the improved flow of my phrasing, but the "overall" flow, or the "song flow" seems a little stiff. Maybe its just because I need more practice with this new approach.Or am I missing the "big picture".
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Doug Oliver

Re: Trying to develop my own fusion style- could any jazz players please give me some advice?

Hmm.I'm not really a Jazz-head but I understand it.Your
question is very subjective. It really depends on your taste of harmony and song pallet.
However, your new system is actually called arpeggiation! The use of chord tones to develope your melodies.
Your song structure may seem stiff because the jazz approach somtimes relies on chord substitutions! That's
a whole other realm and requires study. There are other chords that can be played instead of the 5 chord resolving to the 1 chord.
Uhh,instead of thinking about changing from Cmix to Gmix,I find it better to think in terms of area-options! From the Cmix position the other tones you'll
need are probably located in that same area.In the C Lydian or C Locrian.
Not to sound arrogant,I could say more, but I usually charge $$$ for this information. However you seem to be on the right path and with a little study your knowledge will increase greatly!
Best of Luck and Happy Holidays

Re: Trying to develop my own fusion style- could any jazz players please give me some advice?

hmmmmmmmm, your not very arrogant at all, are you (big)eddie, you forgot to tell him about the chords i invented, namely "A demolished" and "A redundant miner"
and of course who could ever forget, the
"super lochrian ness" scale i invented. love Bob

Re: Bob's chord invention & poor spelling

Bob, Sounds like you do have some grasp on music. (I'm sure that you will no doubt use the "grasp" conotation in one of your vulgar replies)However...does "your" or "you're" show possession? Les Paul & Fender hmmmmmmmmmmmm? I feel that BB King (yes I've seen him with something other than an ES)MR Clapton, the late S. Vaughn may take issue with your overall slander of their respective choices of "axes".
I must admit to supressing a chuckle and do share your sentiments in regard to your response to the fellow who was wondering what his Fender Squire bass was worth. I do fault Fender for putting their name on such a low grade, production guitar. Ditto's for PRS and their new Santana deal. I'm really an acoustic player. Response Bob? Vulgaris et respectos. Quid pro quo Bob. Are you really living in a rat hole of an apartment trying to learn power chords on an Ibanez RX series with a bad neck and Korean tuners? Everything you spout off is something you read from the latest Guitar World. And your constant use of the word crap. Is that a pre-occupation? I have a lot of questions, Clarice (I mean Bob)but I tire so easily of you, for now............. Most respectfully yours, T.R.

Re: Trying to develop my own fusion style- could any jazz players please give me some advice?

Ed,
I think you've given me a new option that I hadn't thought of before. To create a melodic "shift" I could just stay in C and try other modes.
Also, you mentioned about thge possibility of my method being a little stiff, which it probably would be if I never used filler or outside notes. I just use this "arpegiation" as a foundation ,but then add outside notes, chromatic sequences, and chord subs.
With this method, I find that my chord playing has really opened up to some very creative sounding stuff. Lord knows the excact names of the chords I come up with, probably m7sus6#9's. But by not worrying about using standard chords or progressions it seems to give me more freedom. I guess even the conventional methods allow just as much freedom, its just that this way seems to work best for me, only because I only play my own stuff, don't play in situations were someone shouts out "invert that CM7#9 to follow the bass line"(for example) and therefore would need to play by the conventional rules.
But by using a system with only one rule (use the notes in the scale)it creates some confusion, mainly: How do I create medodic shifts - by shifting the entire scale up , or stay when I'm at and just focus on certian key notes for my phrasing.
Thanks for the advice, Doug

Re: Trying to develop my own fusion style- could any jazz players please give me some advice?

Vladimere made a good point.Jazz guys know how and when
to break the rules.

Re: Trying to develop my own fusion style- could any jazz players please give me some advice?

your missing the big picture
jazz is not about any conventions. Its all about breaking the rules, doing what sounds best. Sure, certain structures and progressions are used comonly, but the mail idea is to break down the barriers. Change modes, do wild shit like going from say c dorian to like c# lochrian. do crazy shit, and see what sounds good.

Re: Trying to develop my own fusion style- could any jazz players please give me some advice?

When you speak about fusion, you don't need to think about cord changings and harmony. you should just play music. Don't try to brake any borders. It already will be the forced music. Just play what you feel. When you start thinking about C and next step G, you'll miss the magor thing in music_ space. That's what fusion needs.
I hope my advise will help you.

MARSHALL DSL 100, TSL 100, or MESA HEARTBREAKER

Which is the best choice for hard rock/ progressive metal playing- the Marshall DSL 100, TSL 100 ( i know on has more features but there is just something in the simplicity of the dsl compared to the tsl), the 1959 SLP, or a mesa boogie heartbreaker? Thanks for your input
Happy Holidays to all
