Re: MARSHALL DSL 100, TSL 100, or MESA HEARTBREAKER

Steve,
Although, I have not tried a Mesa Heatbreaker, I can give you my opinion on the TSL/DSL. After owning both I would say that if your looking for a better sounding amp go with the DSL. It's more organic thicker bigger sounding and not as buzzy as the TSL distortion. If you looking for more options then go with the TSL.

AMP CONDITIONS

ok, my band practices in a barn. It's not heated and it's Michigan (22 degrees right now) Is it harmful for my amp (JCM900) to stay out in such extreme temps? I always warm it up before playing and let it cool down. ANy info/advice helpful, thanks

Jazz guitar string opinions wanted

I recently bought a '79 Guild X-500. It had a crusty old set of 11-48 (or so) roundwounds. I use D'Addario XL110s (10-46) on my Tele and LP. I put a set on this arch top, and it was horrible. I then broke apart a set of Gibson flats (12-54) and used the 23, 31, and 42 for the D, A, and E. It was unbalanced. The treble strings (from the XL110s) were stiffer by comparison. So I put the treble 3 from a set of XL120s (9s) on it. It was then balanced tension wise, and played almost TOO easy, but it was wimpy sounding. So right now I am using a regular set of Gibson 12-54 flats. It plays good and sounds okay. I would like to go just one step lighter, maybe 11-50. My question here, finally, is this: I put Gibsons on there because that was all I could get locally for flats. What is your experience with Gibson flats, and are there better brands? Specifically, are there other flatwounds which offer a little brighter sound, or are they all as dead as Gibsons? What about GHS's claims about their Brite-Flats? And what about the Cadillac brands like Pyramid and Thomastik?

Flatwound strings suck!!! If you must do something get some Elixirs. Gibson, ernie balls, ghs, d'adarios are all good strings the elixirs are about 3-4 times more $ but they last longer (coating)

Re: Jazz guitar string opinions wanted

I use Thomastik Enfield .013-.052 Jazz BeeBop Strings. They have a beautifully rich sound.
Guitar Center or www.juststrings.com sells them.

The OFFSPRING - HOW DO I GET THE SOUND ???

hi !

Does someone know , how I have to set my Amp-equalizer to get as close as possible to the sound of the offspring ? (Low,Mid,high,gain..)

Thank you :-))

Re: The OFFSPRING - HOW DO I GET THE SOUND ???

crank the mids to 10, low to 4, and highs to 7 or 8, right around in that range you can get an offspring sound. if u want a bit more clarity in the sound, knock the highs up a lil bit more to 8.5 or 9

Re: The OFFSPRING - HOW DO I GET THE SOUND ???

yeah where do you put the prescence and contour though, and how much tone and which pickup?

PLEASE EMAIL ME WITH A RESPONSE PEOPLE!!

fretlllight 200 series guitar

I have just purchased a secondhand fretlight guitar in perfect working order with no instuctions, can anyone help.

Re: fretlllight 200 series guitar

This guitar was put out in the mid to late 90's, it also came with 4 instructional cassettes. The 1st knob choose=notes,scales,chords..2nd knob choose=notes or key you want...3rd knob choose=chord form or scale you want...Thats about it, but what you need, is to try to find those 4 cassettes...later

guitars

hey manal!
Are you a beginner? what kind of guitar do you want to play- electric, acoustic, steel etc?
what is you budget like and what sort of music would you like to play? if youre a beginner check out epiphone guitars, Aria and tanglewood, also fender squires.

christmas

for one day, i will not call anyone. i will not say "hey, that 59 les paul is crap, burn it" or "fenders are cheap copies of jedson strats", no, i do have some compassion, at least at christmas, so all have a good holiday break and i love you all (except the people who are crap all year round). ps. this site is also crap, but is fun now that i am around. love Bob

Should i get a used Marshall JCM 800 2210 or a new Mesa Heartbreaker???

Please Help

I found a new Mesa Boogie Heartbreaker for $1000 at the store. But i need to decide between that and a used Marshall JCM 800 2210. IF anyone has any info on these amps, or an other suggestions (ive looked at dsl 100, tsl 100, 1959 SLP, etc) please feel free.

Thank you

Chris

Re: Should i get a used Marshall JCM 800 2210 or a new Mesa Heartbreaker???

I just bought a JCM 800 and I love it. It's a great amp.
I have also played that mesa amp. It is good as well but it doesn't have the same bite to it.
How much is the Marshall?

Re: Should i get a used Marshall JCM 800 2210 or a new Mesa Heartbreaker???

I dont know how much the marshall is, i havnt found one yet, but on harmonycentral reviews, people seem to be getting them used for around $5-7 hundred.

Re: Should i get a used Marshall JCM 800 2210 or a new Mesa Heartbreaker???

should i buy caviar or dogshit for dinner? mate mesa boogies are like black women, once youve had a play with one, you dont go back to anything else. mesa's are my far the greatest amps ever made

Re: Should i get a used Marshall JCM 800 2210 or a new Mesa Heartbreaker???

yah buy a boogie if you cant play lead they sound like a horse fart gone bad. huum lets see how many lead guitar greats that dont use marshall, "oh" none :)

Re: Should i get a used Marshall JCM 800 2210 or a new Mesa Heartbreaker???

Seriously dude, there is no question. I have played both of these amps and the Marshall JCM 800 makes the Mesa amp sounds like a wimp. Marshall was the best company in the world for amplifiers and it will continue to be as long as the other companies keep putting out shit. Get the Marshall.

oh you should totaly go for the Jcm 800

I have a 86' JCM 800 2210 that i got about 6 months ago and it blows my friends mesa away. Boogies are cool if you want that shity ass new metal sound.. but if you want versatility and amazing tone go with the marshall.
Another reason to get the marshall is that the 2210 has been aorund a while, you can mod the hsit out of it and if something goes wrong theres plenty of resources on the net on how to fix it and basicly do anything you want to it.

Hello people.

I need your help on something.
If I connect my Distortion panel to my amp, it begins to beep like an idiot.
Is there any other way to bypass this other than buying a limiter?

Peace!

Ibanez RG 750

I have a black Ibanez RG 750, I don't know when it was made, or anything about it. It is in good condition, with a nice hard case. How much is it worth?

Can anybody tell me anything about it?

Re: Ibanez RG 750

It was probably made in Japan in the early ninties... I just bought one of these guitars for 400 dollars, worth depending on condition of course. These guitars are way better than the newer RGs, maybe try selling it on ebay, you could probably get between 350 to 450. I am still trying to figure out if the neck is a wizard 1 or 2... but its a very thin.

this place needs to straighten up

I to Europe for six months come back and this message board has turned into adolescent statements making fun of others using unnecessary explitives. This is suppossed to be a message board for those who love guitars and music. However, it seems as though this has turned into a sleezy AOL chatroom with people making stupid cracks at one another. Come on people lets leaeve this stuff for AOL and turn it back into what it was meant to be!!!

Re: this place needs to straighten up

I agree, first the popups need to go, makes this site seem like another AOL chat room, all the ads popping up... like I'am ever gonna even look at something that someone throws in my face... it works the opposite, I will not go to a site that pop up spams me, let alone buy there.
