When you talk about Metallica "selling out", its the musicians directly you are attacking. The bastards you should be after are the executives, the promoters, and anyone else who is just there for the money. Does it realy matter if music is Mainstream or not? If its good music, thats all there is to it. Metallica has not sold out on its fans, they have been bought out by the greed of those who want nothing other than to make a quick buck out of a great bunch of people, and musicians.

Hell yeah man you could not have said it better. Metallica have never sold out. Their music may hav changed but it was never "bad" or "crap" their music has always been good. Its just that for a while it chaged a little. Thats what alot of the stupid f**ckers can't get over. A little change. They want to listen to the same stuff over and over again. The Gibson EB-3 is a cool sounding bass. You can get enough treble out of it, but maybe not as much as you'd get out of a lot of other modern basses, but it's there. Jimmy Lea of the 70's British rock band Slade got a great trebly, fluid tone out of his EB-3. I don't think he used the tone switch (muffler switch) on his.

It's a shorter scale bass than most basses, which helps give it a distinctive tone. Jack Bruce of Cream, Andy Fraser of Free, and Dennis Dunaway of the old Alice Cooper band also used this bass -- I think they did use of the tone switch, which muffles the treble differently than the tone controls on the guitar do.

I have a 70's Japanese EB-3 copy, and would never part with it.

Either one is a real kicking amp and you won't go wrong. They each have a distinctive sound and that varies depending on your guitar and pickups. But what I would reccommend is that you also consider a really good effects rack! That gives you more sounds than you'll know what to do with... at first! But it really opens you up to creativity. If you sound good, you feel good about your playing and you get creative!
