Re: Metallica bought out, not sold out

: All you people out there who see Metallica as crap as they in light of Napster, and "selling out" on their fans, show some F**king fespect. These guys have worked there arses of, not giving up when their bass player left this world, to go from an unheard of garage band to the greatest influence on Metal. When you talk about Metallica "selling out", its the musicians directly you are attacking. The bastards you should be after are the executives, the promoters, and anyone else who is just there for the money. Does it realy matter if music is Mainstream or not? If its good music, thats all there is to it. Metallica has not sold out on its fans, they have been bought out by the greed of those who want nothing other than to make a quick buck out of a great bunch of people, and musicians.

Hell yeah man you could not have said it better. Metallica have never sold out. Their music may hav changed but it was never "bad" or "crap" their music has always been good. Its just that for a while it chaged a little. Thats what alot of the stupid f**ckers can't get over. A little change. They want to listen to the same stuff over and over again. Metallica has never lost their roots or their ability to make great fucking music. I have always liked and will always llike all their music they have made.

New guitar player needing help!

I bought a cheap-nasty acoustic guitar that was $99 on Ebay a few months ago. I just wanted to try in out to see if I liked it and would want to switch to electric. Well, with Christmas coming up, I got an Ibanez RG220B for $300 on Musicians Friend and a Crate amp. Of course I can't play it until Christmas. Anyways, I don't know anything about pedals and such other than they make effects. What pedal should I get first and where can I buy it (hopefuly online)? Like I said, I'm a newbie that knows nothing, so give me a link and go into detail if possible.

Re: New guitar player needing help!

zoom 505 is a good option, i guess

Re: New guitar player needing help!

I am a guitar teacher from California. One of my instruments is also an Ibanez RG220B - nice guitar! And because you are a self-confessed "newbie," I can tell you this: before you worry about which effects pedals to buy, learn how to play the damned guitar! Far too many guys worry about effects before they know all about scales, modes, the full range of multiple pentatonic scales, arpeggios, chord construction on the fly - in short, before they learn how to play guitar truly well. Focus for at least a year on learning good note sequences with no effects at all; pedals are not much good if you don't play good notes in the first place. Believe me, the best players - the ones you admire - know what I'm talking about.

Bluesy guitar question

OK, I am getting a new guitar. I play a lot of blues and southern rock, and I am slowly but surely learning to play slide. I am looking at either a Stratocaster or a Gibson 335. My question is, how do hollow bodies fare for slide guitar. I know solid body is the norm, but I really like the dirty sound the semi-hollow gets. I CAN'T DECIDE! HELP!

Re: Bluesy guitar question

Hmm.I would stick with the solid bodies. From my experience,semi-hallows tend to feedback and squeal when you "crank" 'em.Tele's,Strats.,Pauls and S.G.'s are all good for slide guitar.Of course you'll have to raise the action and re-tune 'em.But for rock-slide guitar you can't go wrong with these.
Hope this helps

question about Gibson EB-3 Bass guitar

hi. i might purchase this bass. do any of you own this bass or might be familiar with it? it has Alembic stereo electronics. maybe someone could provide me with more information on this bass? what might a fair price for it be?

thanks.

~amber~

Re: question about Gibson EB-3 Bass guitar

The Alembic electronics obviously aren't original equipment on this bass. They came with humbucker pickups, and they are famous for producing a boomy or muffled sound. They do not have very much high end response at all. Just listen to old albums from Cream, and you'll hear an EB-3. I'd say that in exc. condition, a good price for one would be $900-$1500.

Re: question about Gibson EB-3 Bass guitar

The Gibson EB-3 is a cool sounding bass. You can get enough treble out of it, but maybe not as much as you'd get out of a lot of other modern basses, but it's there. Jimmy Lea of the 70's British rock band Slade got a great trebly, fluid tone out of his EB-3. I don't think he used the tone switch (muffler switch) on his.

It's a shorter scale bass than most basses, which helps give it a distinctive tone. Jack Bruce of Cream, Andy Fraser of Free, and Dennis Dunaway of the old Alice Cooper band also used this bass -- I think they did use of the tone switch, which muffles the treble differently than the tone controls on the guitar do.

I have a 70's Japanese EB-3 copy, and would never part with it.

(I know this response is years after the fact, it's intended for someone who may do a search on these instruments).

Re: question about Gibson EB-3 Bass guitar

Hi !
Being convinced about the quality, I bought one announced as a 1967 issue the serial number is #894501.
I know Gibson changed the codification afterwards but I would just like to have the confirmation.
Not a '89 but a '67 !!

Thanks for your cooperation.

Either one is a real kicking amp and you won't go wrong. They each have a distinctive sound and that varies depending on your guitar and pickups. But what I would reccommend is that you also consider a really good effects rack! That gives you more sounds than you'll know what to do with... at first! But it really opens you up to creativity. If you sound good, you feel good about your playing and you get creative!
Hope that helps.

If it's a single cutaway MelodyMaker, one just closed on EBAY for $350. But I've seen this model sell for as much as $800 at music stores.

TRADE : MINT Epiphone Les Paul Standard for Gibson Melodymaker

I have a dead mint, new Epiphone Les Paul Standard in tobacco burst finish. I will trade it for a double cut double pickup modell. It must be the one with the step at the neck joint.

Anyone interested contact:

take off the small plate on the bottom of the head stock and there should be an allen screw there.

Re: Anyone Know How to Lower Action on a Epiphone DOT ??

I eouldn't mess with the truss rod unless you know what you are doing, to start I belive it has a tune-o-matic bridge... start by adjusting that, if you can't figure it out go to gibsons site and they have a tun-o-matic 'setup' guide you can download.

Know any good lesson sites?

I really wanna find a good lesson site, that explains music theory and scales etc. in depth that is explained well.

Re: Know any good lesson sites?

You could start with www.wholenote.com, all lessons are free but you have to do some sifting to get to what you want. There are also links from the homepage right here at guitarsite that might be good, but if you are really serious you should call a music school, you can usually get a half hour a week theory lesson just like a guitar lesson from a live person.

Trey Anastasio's Guitar

What kind of electric guitar does he play??? Sorry for posting some many topics in a row.

Re: Trey Anastasio's Guitar

It's a hollow body custom made by his sound guy Paul Languadoc. A combination of the guitar, effects, and talent allow Trey to rip.

Trey's sound

I can hear that trey uses many effects including compression and overdrive. I was woundering if any one knew any more specifics. I know he has many of the ibanez ts9 (?) overdrive pedals (analogman setups). I would be interesting in anything else any one knows. thanks

Re: Trey's sound

If you can get your hands on the back issue of Guitar Player from a few years back that had Trey on the cover, it gave a nice little diagram with details on Trey's gear and setup

Re: Trey Anastasio's Guitar

Have you found your answer yet?

Re: Trey Anastasio's Guitar

Trey and Mike both play instruments that thier sound guy made for them. They're completely original.

Re: Trey Anastasio's Guitar

Trey, plays a Paul Languedoc guitar. Paul Langudoc, is Phish's sound man. He also builds guitar. He has made several guitars for Trey, and Mike.
