Info on history of electric guitar and how it affected music

I have a report to do for 8th grade history. I am looking for information on how the electric guitar changed or affected the music world. I can't find anything exact to this subject, and have been looking for the past 4 weeks. I have a lot of miscellaneous facts, but nothing concrete. There is a book written about this subject, but we can't find it. I would appreciate any suggestions, comments, or help.

Any practice amp w/ effect loop?

Do any one know of any practice amp w/ effect loop?? or they r all high end amp??

Re: Any practice amp w/ effect loop?

: Do any one know of any practice amp w/ effect loop?? or they r all high end amp??
There used to be a module with effects, you didnt need a practice amp. you hook on your belt and plug in headphones(Pocket Rocket)I have a Randall RG-80 with effects loop in a combo package 1 12" 80 watt celestion,There pretty cheap. Its small but they crank.Ive used mine on gigs.Anyway a strong powerhouse for under 300.00 Steve

Re: Any practice amp w/ effect loop?

Behringer GX110 is a small 30w practice amp with effects loop, headphone jack, line in, midi, and you can get one new for about $120. It also has 'built in' effects which after buying one for my 10 y.o. nephew I was pretty impressed by it, so I got one for myself.... both channels sound good, and you can get pretty much any sound (of course little 30w 'practice quality') you want. It's a good little amp to take around for messing around and with the built in effects you dont need to lug xtra boxes around (but you can use them too).

G&L Asat Classic Tuning problems

I am having problems keeping my asat classic in tune. the g,b,and e strings always seem to go out. I have tried adjusting the truss rod and even changed the saddles and string retainers to no avail. Any suggestions would be apprecaited as to how I can fix this problem

Re: G&L Asat Classic Tuning problems

The things you have tried don't effect your problems. 1.Is your intonation correctly set?
2.Do you stretch your strings after installing new ones? Especially on light gauges with plain G.
3.A lubricant like Stewart/McDonald sells for nut grooves help the strings have neutral tension (a must), but I have used pencil lead with good results. Only tune up to the pitch! Tuning down to note leaves slack in everything that will slip out of tune always.
4.Have you lost springs out of your tremelo mechanism?
5.Occasionally a set of strings are "funky" and can't play "in". Hope this helps! Remember there is only two kinds of music (GOOD & BAD).

Airline Guitar

I recently picked up a butter yellow archtop acoustic
"Airline" at a pawn hop. It has awsome tone and plays well, but I know nothing about it's history or about Ailine in general. Any info would be a great help.

Thanx.

: Jack White from the White Stripes plays an Airline guitar

I have a three-quarters airline, and its a nice guitar. It origionally belonged to my uncle who bought it from sears and now i have it. Thanks to Jack its worth a whole lot more than it would be otherwise.

Re: Airline Guitar

I was given the exact model that jack plays. I had to adjust the neck and restring(it had 3/6 original strings) this thing sounds amazing.

Re: Airline Guitar

i wondered if you would consider selling your guitar. Depending on the condition i would be willing to offer you between 600-1100 dollars for it.

Re: Airline Guitar

Acoustics were made by Kay and Harmony, and electrics were made by Harmony for Montgomery Wards, under the Airline name, thru about late 50's-early 60's. The same guitars were made for Sears under the name Silvertone. I have a 1964 Airline that has decent action and still screams thru my old 80 watt Sunn amp! Airlines are a great, under-appreciated guitar.

Re: Airline Guitar

That's funny. I just picked up a tobacco brown Airline archtop at a pawnshop in L.A. It came with a really nice hardshell case; the instrument is a bit dinged up but sounds really nice and the intonation is perfect all the way up the neck. Wow! I'm glad to know that others are enjoying Airline guitars out there too.

Re: Airline Guitar

My mom gave me her airline and I recently had it re-strung. Mom got hers as a gift about fourty years ago. (circa 1963). Mine's chiped and of poor quality, but what do ya' expcect since my sisters and I banged it up when we were too young to know any better. Just thought I'd give a head's up on how long they've been around for!

P.S. - The one I have is so old there is no knob to place a strap on it!!

learning to play electric guitar.

Hello,
My name is Merrick.I've always wanted to play the electric guitar(strat),but my dad says i should get an eqaustic guitar before i get and electric one.
My question is,is it possible to start on an electric guitar?
thanks for your time and help.

Re: learning to play electric guitar.

hey merrick!
it depends on what kind of music you want to play. However i think acoustic is slightly harder to play but it is simple to get the basics down on ie picking technique, finger patterns etc and this is most important thing of all! acoustic is cheaper too. but electric is cool if you only want to play rock etc. It would be easier to start on electric but you need amps etc and this is more expensive. what kind of music do you like? G

Re: learning to play electric guitar.

It all just depends. I started on an electric, and in my opinion if you learn on an electric you kind of screw yourself over for an acoustic. I got so used to the action on an electric, i.e. bends, slides and whatnot, that playing an acoustic isn't even fun for me since the action is so much worse. However, I'm also a straight-up picking lead player, so I don't do much rhythm strumming. It just depends on whether or not you want to learn to play lead guitar or not, if you just want to learn the basics then I'd go for an acoustic. I still enjoy picking up an acoustic to play Wish you Were Here or Stairway, but when I really want to wail I need my electric. So, like georgi says, it just depends on what kind of music you want to learn. There's always plenty of time to change later, I've been playing for almost a decade and I still know about 1/100 of everything there is to know. Just have fun and enjoy it, whatever you decide to go with. Being Steve Vai and wailing out the scales is easy, it's being Clapton or Gilmour that's tough, because you have to feel your playing so much so that it becomes a part of you rather than just your fingers picking notes really fast. Just have fun.

Nah- I'd say learn acoustic...Once you can really play that, electric will come much much easier!
