Re: small hands
hey elle!
If you have strong hands thats what counts. I have big hands but spend ages trying to master tricky stretches! G
Re: small hands
Rather than give suggestions for a guitar model (and in what price range, type, etc...) the best way to find one is to try as many different ones as possible... just go to a large music store(s) and try them all !!! until you find something that feels 'right' for you, then if it is too expensive or whatever just get the specs for that guitar and then you can search around (the web, etc.) and find others that at least match or are close physically and make buying desisions from there... and having small hands isn't a problem, everyone I know when starting thought their hands were too small, big, fat, skinny, weak... etc, etc, and no matter what level you are at there will always be something that seems 'impossible' to acheive... and then before you know it you are doing it and moving on to and performing even more 'impossible' feats.... well those are my pennys thrown into the ring, good luck.
: im a woman with small hands.. my first 2 fingers on my left hand are 2.5 & 2.75" long.. and my left hand is 6&3/4inches from fingertip to wrist. What guitar models have the thinnest necks? I seem to recall as a kid that electrics were far easier to deal with in that respect. thanks..
Re: small hands
i'm gonna throw you a few names. hopefully this is what you are looking for. Ibanez has the thinest necks on the market, the wizard and wizard 2. you'll find these on the RG,S,and AX series guitars, and on top of that Ibanez makes good quality instruments.
washburn makes a few very thin, very comfortable necks, and some good quality short scale models.
If you dont mind spending quite a bit of money, the guitar maker Taylor makes, in my opinon, the nicest, easiest playing acoustics in the world, period. the only problem there is they only have two models under (take a deep breath!!!) $1300.00. Let me know how the search goes.
Re: small hands
i found the washburn that i had in mind for you , look for the bt2 model
Re: small hands
Most Fender Telecasters have pretty thin necks. Little tweaking has to be done on a lot of them to get a low string hight, which is definately a bonus (to me anyway). Stay away from the Telecustom '72 - very fat neck. All the squire Telecasters have a fairly thin neck (not extremely thin though). Ibanez guitars definately are the one's to go for, for thin necks, but they cost a lot more than what you could get suitable.
guitar teaching software
Of the computer programs available to learn guitar with, what ones have you tried and been happy with? I had the emedia guitar method 2 for mac but the macs long gone and im thinking of looking for another program for my pc.
Secrets of Jonny Greenwood (Radiohead)?
does anyone know what jonny greenwood does with his guitar to make those weird sounds and what his pedals are?
he is a master on the guitar and i have to know!!!

Re: Secrets of Jonny Greenwood (Radiohead)?
First of all he uses a Fender Telecaster Plus. It's slightly modified. It has a switch in between the Volume and Tone knobs (I think) that cuts the signal, between the pickups. So he can create tremolo and tapping tremolo effects with this.
He uses a Marshall Shreadmaster, Boss Metal Zone, Boss Turbo Overdrive (I think - it might be the Super Overdrive), DOD envelope filter, Digitech Whammey, Boss Volume Pedal, Homemade Tremolo stompbox, Roland Space Echo (rack mounted), and Electro-Harmonix Small Stone This is most of them. A couple left out though. He uses a Vox AC30 for non-distorted sounds and a Fender Deluxe 85 for distorted sounds. He also uses a Boss Line Selector. Boss TU-12 tuner is also in his setup.

tuning
I need to tune my guitar, where can I find a 'proper' key to tune it to with no other music equiptment but my out-of-tune guitar around? i.e. Where can I find the pitch of and E or A?
Re: tuning
If your PC has a sound card and speakers just download a tuning program (there are 100's of them), they can generate tones to tune against, or you can tune 'digitally' with a microphone (for acoustic) or the guitar directly connected (electric).
You can also tune to the phone dialtone, I belive in the US it is F (again sure you can find this info on the web too, so I won't bother repeating it).
And as a minimum, just tune it so it sounds good to you and is 'in tune with itself'... being 'out of tune' isn't that terrible when practicing, you just really notice it when you play with 'tuned' instruments, and if you are then you can tune to them anyways... well that my 2 cents.

I used to have one of those. I tried: loosening everything in sight with an allen wrench; using a combination of force and the muttering of oaths, but finally just took it in and had it removed.
Surely there's somebody around here with the aptitude for this.

Re: changing of strings on floyd rose guitar
There are lots of guides on the web so I won't try to explain it, search to find one or try this one (It's a pretty good step by step w/pics, and setup info too):
http://www.homeguitarrepair.com/tremolo/tremolo1.html
Changing the strings is pretty straightfoward, the fun really begins the first time you try to tune it back up... but on the bright side it gets easier every time you do it, so the only advice I can give here is when you are ready to throw it against the wall... just walk away for a few min before you do something you regret... I know firsthand about this :).

tuningdown1/2step
could anyone explain how to tune down a 1/2 step how do i actually go about it
Re: tuningdown1/2step
Tune the low E down (1/2 down step==E flat), then tune the rest 'normally' against it, if you don't have an electronic tuner to tune the low E (or all the strings for that matter) then tune it against E flat on the 5th string and go from there.

new Hohner acoustic or used Fender
I need help! I am looking to buy an acoustic guitar as a gift and really don't know tooo much about 'em. I can get into a new Hohner HW 420 w/Siberian willow top, back & sides at a very reasonable price. Anybody know this guitar? Is Hohner a reputable, good-toned guitar? The used Fender DG-24 that I'm considering is "almost" new but has high action. I'm also looking at a used Fender DG-20S. Does the wood type REALLY make the tone... ie: spruce better than willow or mahogany? I'd appreciate any comments and opinions. Thanks!

Guitar buzz
I have a custom Gordon Smith SG2. I was adjusting the pickups when it developed a hum, that would not go away again. Swapping around the neck and bridge pickups fixed it (one was a Seymour Duncan P90 soap bar, the other a P90 soap bar of uncertain origin (probably Gibson)), but the tone was wrong and when I swapped them back the hum came back.
All the earthing seems to check out OK. Can anyone suggest where to look for the problem?
Re: Guitar buzz
Hmm.Sounds like your "Lead" position POT needs to be changed.Seymore's tend to be quieter than most pickups.
Maybe the unknown pickup needs to be "sheilded" better.

Wanted:Baldwin Burns Vibra slim 68 or 67
Hi, I'm looking for a 67 or 68 Baldwin/Burns Vibra Slim. I am looking to spend between $400 and $600. I require the pu's and electronics to be in good shap, and the neck to be straight, other than that I am not concerned about the general appearance. Thanks, Buck

mesa boogie dual rectifier
It' s difficult for me to find a good sound with my Mesa... I'm a thrash death metal bands fan (cannibal corpse, dying fetus, pantera, meshuggah, fear factory,...). My guitar is a jackson with emg 81 pick-up. PLEASE HELP ME TO FIND A GOOD SOUND...
Re: mesa boogie dual rectifier
the sound you are looking for is that "MID SCOOP" sound
a lot of people think that a good valve amp will give you that sound, but in reality, it wont (ALTHOUGH YOUR AMP SHOULD HAVE A GREAT SOUND ANYWAY), what you need is a good graphic equalizer (most of the bands you mention will use one, or have some of the mid removed from their guitar in the studio at the desk). the basic rule is, for a more edgy crunch, turn the mid down (and the presence up) and for lead, turn up the mid. i hope i can help. tom
Re: mesa boogie dual rectifier
how can you own such rich boy's gear and not know how to get a good sound? play around with the farkin knobs untill u get the sound u like. but if you want that sound so typical of modern bullshit metal bands, run your axe into a graphic eq withth 400 hz band down. take down the mid and gun it

Pinback
Anyone know pinback tabs?
Re: Pinback Tabs
I know 1 pinback tab for loro. The muted riff that continually plays throughout the song is
d| 7 7 3 3
a| 5 5 8 8 5 8 10 5 8 8 5 5 1 1
e| 1 11 1
i tabbed it myself, but that seems about right, i hope it helps. its too bad that there aren't more pinback tabs on the net.
Re: Pinback Tabs
: sorry the last tab got messed up. here it is again:
d|-----------------------7-7---------3-------3-------a|-5--5-8-8--5-8-10--5-8-----8-5--5-----1-1----------
e|--------------------------------------------1--11-1
strange strat
Anyone heard of a strat from the early 80's that only has one volume and one tone knob. The third knob hole in the pick guard is the 1/4" plug.It does not have the normal angle plug in on the body.

Guitar Strap Help
I play a Yamaha FG-335 (acoustic), which has one knob at the bottom of the body for the strap to connect, but no such knob on the neck or head. My friend bought me a new strap with holes at either end, but no strings to tie. I can attach one side of it to the knob, but don't know what to do about the other end. Am I missing something? Please help!
Re: Guitar Strap Help
You could just put like a leather shoelace through the hole in the strap and then secure it to the headstock, or install a 'knob' where you want it.

looking for a floyd rose stabilizer
a smaall rod that connects from trem block to claw and prevents detuning when a string breaks
Re: looking for a floyd rose stabilizer
if you're like me and you detest trems, yourquickest fix is to open up the back and jam something in there. I tend to use pennies but you can use wood blocks, rubber stoppers, and all kinds of shit. otherwise if you like your trem (cursed things) hipshot makes an awesome little thing called the tremsetter. you can order it at most music stores.
TRUE BYPASS OR NOT? please offer opinions/suggestions/etc
