I Recently aquired a martin&co. D-28 guitar i really don't know anything about it and would like to know how old it is and what it's worth the number inside is D-28 418005 any information on this would be greatly appreciated. THANKS
Re: information
It was made in '79, and the value depends on condition, but a '79 in good condition should get around $1050 (I think)... check out the blue book value and what they are selling for on the net... or send it to me and I'll 'appraise' it for you :).

Yo is anybody listening?? i need some advice here while everybody is ignoring me!
: Always when Metallica paases the forum about wich gear they use and how to get their sound it's about the distrtion sound. After figuring that out (a long time ago) i'm still not surtain about their clean sound, like in harvester of sorrow ore one. any advice is welcome
Re: Yo is anybody listening?? i need some advice here while everybody is ignoring me!
Any good chorus effect on clean perferably hooked up to a guitar equipped with a neck humbucker always works nice. Try Sanitarium with that hook-up, it sounds pretty fuckin sweet.
Re: Yo is anybody listening?? i need some advice here while everybody is ignoring me!
Thanx.
Finally someone ho is using this board for it's true reason, helping others out.
Seeya.
Re: Yo is anybody listening?? i need some advice here while everybody is ignoring me!
i bought a boss super chorus(ch-1) how do you think i should put the settings?
Re: Yo is anybody listening?? i need some advice here while everybody is ignoring me!
The best way to achieve a really clean sound, turn the treble of your amp halfway down (12 o'clock), and go heavy on the compression. I get a pretty good sound from my Zoom 505. It has a great compressor, and EQ you can tweak to get the right sound. Good luck.

fender strat ultra..how do you intonate this thing
has an floyd rose/fender bridge that's just weird. it's strings needs lenght adjustment..is there a science to this thing? i feel like some dam jihad islamasmuck.
Re: fender strat ultra..how do you intonate this thing
If you own a Strat Ultra you own one of the finest and most tonally complex Strats ever produced by
Fender. The pickups, tone controls, bridge, and even the 5-way selector switch are not the same as
on any other model Strat. The bridge adjustment that you are referring to (ie - string length for intonation)
is made by loosening the saddle locking screw which is on the UNDERSIDE of the bridge and can be
accessed through the tremelo route from the back of the guitar. All you need to do is remove the cover
plate from the tremelo cavity and loosen the hex head screws with the same allen wrench that locks the
strings in place.
Just remember the Ultr is NOT an ordinary Strat!

metallica=greedy slobs
i used to like 'em-sure....until they helped destroy the best thing that ever happened to music..wake up dudes.....those old dickheads don't give a shit about you-and they are deffinitely NOT the best there is to offer...i can play every metallica song ever put to a console listening to it one time. i've heard much heard much heavier, much more melodic, and much more original. metallica is nothing but black sabbath on crank. if i ever see any of those little pussies anywhere i'm gonna beat the living piss out of thier fake assed mesa-boogie playin' little faggot asses!!!
Re: metallica=greedy slobs
ahem
you are talking about the biggest single influence on metal music the world has ever seen. you say you can play all of there song, big woop, many people can. does it realy mattter if they are underground or mainstream? no. good music is good music, and these guys play good music. any true guitarist on this site will be sick to shit of little try-hard 14 year old wanna-be guitarists such as yourself posting blatant shit on this site, about one of the greatest bands to ever. metallica have long been bought out, theres no question there, but you are attacking the musicians. and its because of little fuckheads like you that the qualitly of music these days has gone down the drain. if you want to put the blame for metallica's "greed" on someone, remember that there are many greedy executives, managers and promoters. dont attck the music or the musicians, or soon you will find yourself with nothing to criticize
metallica= kick your ass
hehehe- you crack me up, man. First of all, sure you can get on the internet and claim that you can play any metallica song through and through, but in reality you probably can't; I'm sure you can't. Second of all, this is a guitar discussion forum, not a band commentary. Don't ever disgrace the name of metallica again asshole.
Re: metallica=greedy slobs
your probably a little shit. you probably cant even lift more than 100 pounds. MetallicA could kick your ass. Most of the guys i know that rip on MetallicA are little computer nerd pussies, Standing less than six foot with no muscle what so ever. MetallicA has had more hot pussy then youll ever have in your life. If your lucky u might get somthing average once in your life. MetallicA is awesome. Go to college and make some money and then maybe you can afford to purchase albums and enjoy a much better sounding audio format. Napster sucks anyways. And you cant play guitar that well, otherwise you would be in a band and have a name. Youll never be anything in life. Im curious as to what u listen to.
Check these guys out!

COVERING PICKUPS
I HAVE A BLACK GUITAR WITH CHROME PICKUPS, I'D LIKE TO COVER THE PICKUPS OR PAINT A DESIGN ON THEM. THEIR HUMBUCKERS, BUT I DON'T KNOW IF IT WILL AFFECT THE SOUND. GOOD IDEA OR BAD IDEA?
Re: COVERING PICKUPS
I think it's a bad idea - paint won't stick. It also might affect the humbucker pickups if you get any on the magnetic recievers. I would stick with the ones you have, or buy some new ones all together.
Re: COVERING PICKUPS
I wouldnt paint them either... but if you do use a metallic (has metallic 'particles' in it) spray, and if the pickups are nickel you can have them photoetched... don't know if it works on chrome though.

Sade

Anyone knopw of a source???
playing solo lines
I have studied the construction of chords in guitar but how can I play solo lines from these notes in a particular music piece like blues?
Re: playing solo lines
Use scales...study the music theory....each chord choresponds to a scale? for example C major has three notes C(root) A, E. but these arent the only notes that sound good at it - the full scale of 'em (C,D,E,F,G,A,B) will sound.... another ex - C miner (Cm) - C(root) Eb, G....but u can play all the scale too, whish is C, D, Eb, F, G, Ab, Bb.... practice...usually u and a chord with a note that corresponds to both the last chord and the one to come.... welll - thats the basis of solo....but u can skip this crap and simply practice on the fretboard... :) but to be good, theory is essential...

Re: playing solo lines
so in C major you know you have C (root) A and E...but how do you know which scale(s) are "usable"? C maj, A maj, and Emaj only? at all?
peace

Re: playing solo lines
Hey man,get the Pentatonic scales down forward and backward "which are really easy" and you will be able to progress from there.Simple as they are ,many cool licks can be derived from that scale.I started with those scales and have been able to really build upon them since I learned the " actual " notes in that scale and the sympathetic ones and, the ones that can be slid "to" or "from" from there.Hope this will inspire you some,,,good luck.Keep the tone slightly overdriven and warm and it will come to you.
Re: playing solo lines
YOUR BEST WAY TO UNDERSTAND AND TO BEGIN TO COPY SOME SOILS AND SIMPLE MELODIES SO THAT YOU CAN INTERNALIZE THE MELODY AND THE TRANSCRIPTIONS, TO OPEN MORE THE MIND IN TERMS OF LINES THAT ARE THE COMBINATIONS OF EVERYTHING.

METALLICASH
the biggest influence on rock today,huh?-HAHAHAHAHAHAthat shows me how much you know what the hell your talking about...i don't guess you've ever heard of any little ole' bands by the names of "black sabbath", or "judas priest",or maybe "led zeppelin",how'bout"the yardbirds"....ever hear of jimi hendrix?,stevie ray vaughn?,joe satriani?,eddie van halen?.....I find it quite hilarious that people fail to see the "convinient comercialism" in ALL of metallicas' songs...they all have the same sound. as far as the state of music these days-i don't think there's a damn thing wrong...unless the only place you know where to find good new music is the radio and mtv/vh1...then,yeah-yur screwed.... napster sure was a good place to try out all kinds of demos and single songs of new bands before you went out and bought thier cd....but METALLICA themselves took the initiative-yes NOT thier record company bosses- but the BOYS THEMSELVES played the key role in shutting that down-god forbid we get ANYTHING without paying 20 dollars FUCK METALLICA-and as i said before-if i ever see any of thier little bitch asses anywhere they're goin' to the hospital......
and for the record-i'm 28-not 14,and have been playing music for 18 years.
Re: METALLICASH
Yeah 28, huh? Sure. I guess 28 year olds have nothing better to do with their time then. Playing for 18 years, eh? Well, surely a man of your stature knows what music really is RIGHT? Go ahead and "kick their asses" when you get the chance, man. I'm sure they will yeild to yours almighty, for surely when they see you they will tremble in fear of the ultimate guitar god. Go look up some porn of something, man, your comments are not needed here.
Re: METALLICASH
you're wrong man!
other bands like Korn, LimpBizkit, Machine Head,...they screw it up at the very beginning...
Metallica was very productive more than 15 years.
In each of their first 5 albums you can hear progress
(... none of the new "star-bands" can't record an album like justice for all (and it's 11 years old). Let me hear you!
They had their time and they were No1. I also don't like what they did in past few years....but who lives forever..... If that is what you think about Metallica
you really don't know much about their music. Try to learn some riffs and you'll find the magic....and the tehnical skills.
