I find the Jem guitars very good,with very deep melodic sound , but I suggest that you by a new guitar better than the old one.That way you won't have any problems with "buzzing" frets or some other part of the guitar that has to be changed because it's used too much.The RG's are good guitars with the good sound.I have the Jem555WH,and for you probbably the best thing to do is to wait for a while to save some more money to by a new one,you can do it....everyone can.That's my opinion.

Electric or acoustic? if he doesn't mind it would possibly be better to start on acoustic. Start out with a cheaper, basic model, between £35-£50, or if electric, get a second hand model (about £60) -new cost about £100 for a very basic model. Buy locally, ask about quality or if you have any guitarist friends, take them along. If the guitar sounds good and price is ok you can't go wrong. For beginners there is no need to go chasing up the most desirable brands, most acoustics sound alike! Good luck G

sounds like maybe a 300 series its hard to tell without seeing it. Ibaneze made about 20 models and even a dealer couldn't say with out seeing it.

Made in Japan would suggest Pro series, as would the Duncan Designed pickups.

The Performer Series (the cheapest range circa '00)used to be made in Japan, but these only had Jackson pickups.

What body shape is the guitar? I think the guitar must be a good few years old (perhaps as many as 10). as far as I'm aware the last 7 strings JAckson made were the DX7 (Fixed bridge Dinky stlye with 2 hums and reversed headstock) and also the RR7, a fixed bridge Rhandy Rhodes body, also with a Reversed headstock.

I can't think of any with a trem, but maybe you should search for some old catalogues. Google!
