12-string versus 6-string

I'm going to buy my first acoustic, I have a yamaha electric. I really love the rich sound of the 12-strings and am leaning towards an Alvarez 12-string. Could somebody tell me the pros and cons on 12-string versus 6-string acoustics for a beginner? Thanks in advance

Re: 12-string versus 6-string

PRO - 12 STRING HAS 2X MORE STRINGS THAN 6 STRING
PRO - 12 STRING SOUNDS 2X BETTER THAN 6 STRING
CON - 12 STRING SINKS 2X FASTER THAN 6 STRING

12 strings have wider necks to accomodate the extra strings, and may be hard for a beginner to chord. Also, the six extra strings mean six more strings to keep in tune and more maintenance. That's about all the cons I can think of. I would suggest a six string ather than 12 string for the beginner...

Who has a Martin Coletti guitar in their possession?

Anyone have a Martin Coletti in their possession, or has anyone indeed ever heard of these beautiful guitars, probably 1940's I would say? Doing some research on them at the moment but keep hitting brick walls......a mystery indeed! My dad has one and its beautiful with a lovely sound of it. Any help, info would of course be much appreciated. Thanks a lot, Donna Mahon, Ireland.

Re: Who has a Martin Coletti guitar in their possession?

Hi i just read your statements about colleti guitars from last year, we also are keen to learn more about them. My mum who works in a school has found a colleti guitar been used in the classroom itself by 7 year olds! As a keen guitarist myself i am willing to buy this guitar off the teacher for a small sum of money (since shes crazy and knows nothing of them) and refubish it, and make it appealing again. I was wondering since statement about wanting to gain further information about these guitars was done a year ago now, if you now have any information on these beautiful guitars?

Is MetallicA greedy?

You fools! Greed is powered by a hunger for wealth. And Napster of course is what we are all talking about here. MetallicA clearly have a problem with napster, and sewed for reasons other then for profit. In the buisness world, sewing is your only weapon. These comments like greedy are spoken out of anger that blinds the better judgment with simple minds. Wether or not they had the right to do it is a different discussion.

Re: Is MetallicA greedy?

I hate too say it but yes Metallica did SUE napster. They SUED them good. But Metallica don't care about making money. Most of the money made from selling cds goes to record companies anywway (like 95%) so why anyone would bother sueing napster because they are getting ripped off. WIth metallica their music is their life, their love and for some (especially James and Lars) their heart. Imagine coming home and seeing someone screwing your significant other. You would want to beat the crap out of them. With Metallica distributing their music over the internet is (screwing with their significant other) and since you can't beat napster up you have to SUE them.

Whats wrong with greed ????

Money Is Good
Grab all you can
Greed is an excuse of the poor

Before you try and sound smart, you should learn how to spell. You should also try using some better grammar.

overdrive/fuzz pedals

i need some help with chords

i'am new at guitar and i need some help with my chords can someone please send me the tablature for e a g d and c?

Re: i need some help with chords

There are many sites that list chords and the differnt voicings for them, check out wholenote.com, specifically:

http://www.wholenote.com/default.asp?src=l&l=912&p=1

Theres some good beginner info there, also think about picking up a chord/scale 'dictionary', because now and down the road it will defintely be helpful.

Welcome to the world of musical expression through the guitar. I would highly suggest that you go to any music store and buy a chord book. There are litereally thousands of chords, and having a book allows you the flexability to "study" and practice anywhere. Sure, you can get chords off the computer, but who wants to sit in front of a computer while playing/practicing the guitar? The chord books are inexpensive and have a vast amount of usable information in them. Good luck with your endeavors to play the guitar, and remember, practice, practice!!

Please help me find a Kay guitar!

Back in 1965, my Dad bought me a Kay electric (I think it was a Swingmaster) and I lost it at college in the 70s. I love my Strat but I want to find a Kay like the one I had. I only have a few old photos to go by.

It was a thin hollow-body single cutaway electric with sunburst finish; two raised pickups in clear plastic mounts; a white pickguard mounted above the guitar with a small bracket; 4 pots for treble/bass and volume, and a toggle switch selector.

Can you help me identify this guitar with the little info I've provided? Do you have one for sale, either now or in the future? Thanks!

Re: Please help me find a Kay guitar!

Strangly enough, my dad bought one of those for me sometime around the same time you got yours! I too have been looking to replace it for sentimental reasons.
Recently I lost the bid for one on eBay. I was very dissapointed I must say.
I was wondering if you had any luck finding one for yourself.
The photo of mine was sort of an accident. It just happened to be in the background of the photo and is a very grainy, dark photo. Too bad.
Here I am searching the web today for one and I came across your request.
Well, just curious.
Thanks,
Allen Storey

Question for vocal teachers, why does voice skip note?

My 12 y/o daughter is a prodigy 6 octave vovalist that has never had lessons and recently she has developed one high note that when she sings it her voice cracks and jumps to other note??? It is starting to go away now but what causes this. Is it just a growing stage? This had her worried as she wants to break wine glasses and is aspiring to become the best vocalist. Thanks for your help.

Re: Question for vocal teachers, why does voice skip note?

I had a similar problem but this is common in 12 year olds, they go thurough puberty and their voices change, so don't worry about it as it goes away. Just make sure she stays real thin and hot though because looks are more important for a pop career.

Re: Question for vocal teachers, why does voice skip note?

She is developing a natural break. If it is around D above high C, she is a soprano. This is from the cartilage hardening with maturity. This mostly occurs during puberty, but continues on into the 40s. This is why really great opera singers are in their 40s -power! This break becomes more pornounced with age unless you train. I liken it to getting a bigger motorcycle every few years: more to control, but more power. If you really want a great career for her, you will have to invest, just like with a violinist. My feeling is, if you can't afford a REALLY good teacher for a child, which will cost upwards of $60 an hour for the rest of her life, then don't do it at all. Female vocalists are easy to wreck with the wrong teacher, but when you have the right teacher WOW! If you can't afford it, just singing a lot is the way to do it, get her into choirs and fun things, and keep it fun, a relaxed voice is the best voice -- sing from the pelvis! A really good teacher will help keep the range, but the wrong training will take several years with a good teacher to undo. Been there!

Rick Holmstrom

Has anyone gotten any cool records lately?
My favorite album this summer was Hydraulic Groove by Rick Holmstrom, his music is the perfect blend of electronic and blues. I think Holmstrom is one of the most innovative and original guitar player around.

Re: Rick Holmstrom

David Cassidy has a new one out with mixes never released before, it covers his whole career and is a must for any serious musican.

Which telecaster pick-up has the low end?

I want to get a telecaster pickup for my Univox (because it has such a thin sound to it). Just wondering if anyone knew which telecaster pickup (neck or bridge) gets the nice low end sound? or any suggestion on a nice low end sounding pickup?

fender lace sensors

anyone know whats up with fender and their lace sensor pickups? seems like they are starting to phase them out. too bad

Re: fender lace sensors

: anyone know whats up with fender and their lace sensor pickups? seems like they are starting to phase them out. too bad

I haven't heard that they were phasing them out. They are definately remarkable pickups with a clear bell like tone... Buddy Guy can make em walk and talk!! They still come standard in the Buddy Guy signature model strat..

Re: fender lace sensors

Those Lace Sensors are great pickups. I don't know what's happening with them. For some reason, some people say tey are bad pickups. If they are, why would Buddy Guy & Clapton use them?

Re: fender lace sensors

They never caught on so they are replacing them with the leather series.
