Guitars
What the diffrence between a bass and an electric guitar?
Re: Guitars
a bass is lower than a guitar. the strings are much thicker thus giving you a lower sound.
Re: Guitars
there're also acoustic guitars but electric ones play much better
Is this a good guitar?
I was just wondering if the ESP F100 was a good guitar. I'm looking to buy my first guitar and i've heard that was a good guitar but i want other opinions. Thank you!
Re: Is this a good guitar?
Depending on your style I would Go look at the Jackson line up. They have a very nice fast action neck by trade. But they have a price range depending on models
I need tone help, PLEASE !!
I'm playing a Les Paul Standard through a Fender Hot Rod DeVille 4x10.
The band I'm in is currently palying covers ranging from older Ozzy (Crazy Train), to Disturbed, Kansas, Old Aerosmith (Mama Kin), Nickleback, Judas Priest, STP, Iron Maiden, etc....
I have an old DOD overdrive, and a DOD Death Metal.
The OD is too little, and dosen't provide enough crunch, the Death Metal is way over the top, and very muddy, not to mention sounds very whiny.
I need something to give me a happy medium between the two.
For the classic rock stuff, I overdrive the hell outta the tubes, which sounds great, very warm, but very muddy, not clear at all.
Any help with equipment to try out, or amp settings would be really appreciated. THANX!!!

Re: I need tone help, PLEASE !!
The best thing I would do is get rid of all that shit and go down to the music store and buy a Line 6 amp. It has great warm tone and great effects. It cured my Problem for the 18 years of playing plus all those dam stomp boxes

I agree with Dave, but while you are down there try out a Marshall MG head & 4x12 cab and an AVT2000 Marshall head & cab. I was a valve devotee for years but was always caught out by the fact that whenever I switched on my amp (Vox, Marshalls, Orange you name it) I got a different tone every time.
Leave the valves to the purists for studio shenanigans and get yourself a decent dig-mod -tranny rig for live work.....they are a damned sight lighter for lugging around too!!!
If you really really don't want to give up your valves, set your amp with all tone controls backed off to minimum and play through a line 6 POD.
Hope this helps.
Re: I need tone help, PLEASE !!
if you're like me and don't have the money to buy a Line6 or other high end equipment then go with a Digitech Metal Master. On a budget it's the closest I can get to sounding half way decent. It has a "morph" knob that allows you to do a real good mid sweep for modern and death metal, high and low eq, and a volume pre out. On a budget I think you'll be much happier than with the DoD crap.
Re: I need tone help, PLEASE !!
Yo, i've got sweet tone (well at least i used to think it was good! check up top) and i swear if you go check out Oberhiem at www.musicyo.com it'll be worth your while, better tone that a crappy dod, and anything you could ever need for a little bit more chash in a rack mount. i think its worth the cash. i got a two rack one and it kicks. later

SBG2000 For Sale
Hi ,
I have a Yamaha SBG2000 for sale. This guitar and case are in MINT original condition, if it had the price tag hanging on it you would swear it was new. serial range#135000 , I'm asking $1500. If you know of someone looking for one let me know. you won't find a better one.
Regards: Jim
Which amp?
I'm currently trying to decide between a Line 6 Spyder and a Marshall AVT100, I play like to have a mean metal sound but do a lot of clean stuff aswell, any suggestions?

I have used both. Indeed I own a Line 6 Spider for home rehearsing, use a Marshall MG100 head & MG412 cab live, and use a Marshall AVT100 head & 412cab at the rehearsal studios. My mate has a Marshall AVT2000 100w combo, too that I've played thru. I like a mucky scooped metal tone plus a chorus-laden clean tone.
It kinda depends on what you'll be doing. If you are playing with a full band go Marshall + 4x12, if all you do is play along with backing go Line 6 spider. If you specifically want a combo, go Line 6. If you want to go head + cab try the Marshall MG head & cab. It's far less expensive than the AVT and admittedly the range of effects etc isn't there but the tone is well up there with it and I'm heavily impressed, being a valve addict for many years previously.

Re: Kay Guitar
: I have a Kay guitar and there is a stamped number on the inside, it is E5404. This guitar appears to be approximately 30 years old, it is in good shape, although it needs some repair. I was wondering if perhaps you could give me an approximate date of manufacture and also a ballpark figure as to the valve. Any information you could provide would be appreciated. Thanks you.
Re: Kay Guitar
: My dad has a Kay guitar from the early 50's. Next time I see it I will try to get more info on model and manufacturing date.

Re: can anyone tell me about a fender lead 1
The Fender Lead series was made from 1979-1982 in the U.S. the Lead I that you have is one of the three in the series. Yours, the Lead I, has one humbucking pickup near the bridge, the Lead II has two single coil pickups, and the Lead III has two humbucking pickups.
I hope I helped you out

mechanical strumming device for disabled
I am trying to make a mechanical device capable of simple strumming (variable speed) for a guitarist who has lost the most of the use of his right arm and wishes to at least play chords. Any help gratefully received.
Re: mechanical strumming device for disabled
I am also trying to configure a device that will strum maybe using the tapping of a foot for a man who has lost the use of his left hand and is looking to try to play left handed guitar to cope with not being able to play.

There's something (now) called an E bow; availible on line and at some stores. It seems(?) to require an electric guitar or at least a pick-up. And with the help of some biomed students at Tulane they came up with a pedal device to depress all open strings and slidable to any fret, so you could play open chords only using a non conventional tuning.

I bought one new in 1976. It had gold plated shalher keys, The neck is made of hard rock maple from maine, the body is Honduras Mohagany, laminated into 3 pieces. They were originally made in Illnois. I imagine mine was one of the first made.

Re: i want to learn how to play stairway to heaven
I think I might be able to shed some light on this subject for you wankers. Since I'm usually not available, just look on the web at www.olga.net. On the right side of the page, under "Guitar Tabs", click "Everything" On the next page, click "L". On the next page, find "led zepplin" and click it. then the last page comes up and you click the stairway_to_heaven.tab link.
