Alvarez Yairi DY88PW

I have an Alvarez Yairi DY88PW which was bought for me in Phoenix, Arizona in 1991 (I live in Australia). I believe the model is no longer produced, and I have no idea what it cost as it was a gift. Does anyone have a rough idea what it might be worth?

Re: Alvarez Yairi DY88PW

I'll buy it from you for $400

Epiphone Les Paul

I am collecting Epi Les Pauls [ I can't afford Gibsons ].There is a vast number of different finishes and models.Makes for enjoyable collecting. Does anyone know of a site with info on Korean made Epi LP's such as a list of finishes, limited editions, serial # info, etc. The Epiphone site only lists a few. There are many different models available on e-bay that Epiphone and their dealers don't list. Any other Epi LP collectors out there?

replacement PICKUPs for Squire FAT Tele

Hi from Barcelona, Spain. I need help/advise on pickups for a Squire fat telecaster. I researched and see that one possibility is to get Fender DH1 humbucker and Fender tele pickups deltatone (bridge). Another possibility is Seymour Duncan for both both positions but I can't choose the ricght pick ups from the info that is on the net...! Can you recomend a neck and a bridge pickup from SDuncan, RioGrande or the like please? I'd like a bell sound, very resonant resonant but warm for neck and clean bright for the bridge. I need also advice on a combination that sound good together. Many thanks in advance!!! Please, better if email directly too [email protected]

invention of guitar

what was robert flemming jr. role in the invention of the guitar

Re: invention of guitar

There is no such thing as the "invention" of the guitar. The modern guitar has evolved gradually, from the ancient Greek "kithara" to the 16th century Spanish vihuela, then to the classical guitar of the 19th century and now to the many different forms of the modern guitar.

Re: invention of guitar

: There is no such thing as the "invention" of the guitar.
This is a void statement,as everything has been invented @ some point.I read that it was invented about 3000 B.C.

Gibson ES-175 1958 (supposed)

Hi, I'm told a Gibson ES-175 which has had its single coil replaced w/ a humbucker and another 2nd humbucker installed is from 1958.Seems OK, sounds fine, but has its jack connector on the archtop, near the volume/tone controls. I've never seen it there, always on the bottom. Has anyone? Comments? Thanks

Moonlight in Vermont

Does anyone have the guitar Johnny Smith's chord melody score to Moonlight in Vermont? Thanx for help.

Re: Moonlight in Vermont

: Does anyone have the guitar Johnny Smith's chord melody score to Moonlight in Vermont? Thanx for help.

I have a transcription given to me years ago by my teacher, Paul Guma. If I can get it scanned, I'll send it to you if you send me your e-mail address. It's missing some stuff because it doesn't include Stan Getz's part, but is fairly accurate as far as Johnny's chords are concerned. Also, his solo, including the harmonic parts, is in the book "Johnny Smith Solos", available from Hal Leonard. But watch out! That initial arpeggio run is a killer! Mostly 32nd notes! Good luck. I visited Johnny several years ago, and he's quite a good person, to put it mildly.

guitar music. The concert will take place in Levensen Hall at the Center for
the Performing Arts. Music composed by Steve Reich, Arvo Paert, Jacob TV,
Scott Johnson, Leo Brouwer, and Marco Oppedisano will be performed.

Kevin R. Gallagher (www.mp3.com/guitarmosaics) began playing rock guitar in
his formative years but his musical appetite quickly led him to study jazz
and ultimately, classical guitar. His talent for the classical guitar won
him numerous scholarships and awards while studying with Benjamin Verdery at
the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music and at the Julliard School under the
tutelage of Sharon Isbin. He was the first-prize winner in the 1993 Guitar
Foundation of America, the 1994 ASTA, and the 1993 Artists International
Competitions. He also has the distinct honor of being the only American
classical guitarist ever to win first prize in the prestigious Francisco
Tárrega Guitar Competition in Spain (1997). After his studies at Julliard,
Mr. Gallagher gave many classical guitar performances and masterclasses
throughout the world, including countries such as Spain, Germany, Sweden,
Greece, Turkey, Brazil, England, and the United States. He also recorded
four classical guitar albums, the ultimate being an album for Naxos Records
which was hailed as one of the very best NAXOS classical guitar recordings
by Classical Guitar Magazine in May of 2000.

In the summer of 2001, Kevin returned to his first love, the electric
guitar. Since then, his goal has been to bridge the "contemporary" music
concert and the "popular" music concert. Kevin encourages composers to write
new music for the instruments of today - such as the electric guitar,
turntables, synthesizers etc. This unique mix is widening the audience and
interest for new music as well as educating composers who have not had the
chance to study these modern instruments in a typical conservatory
education. Mr. Gallagher has already arranged numerous works for the solo
electric guitar, including pieces by Jacob Ter Veldhuis, Steve Reich, Leo
Brouwer, and Arvo Pärt among others. He also performs chamber music, which
involves the electric guitar in traditional and untraditional settings. For
soundclips, please visit his mp3 page at www.mp3.com/guitarmosaics.
