Years ago at a flea market I found one, dated 1973, a "classical" nylon string version. This "cheapo" guitar has a solid wood top, and mahogany sides & back. The sound is absolutely phenominal. The box is extremely well made, this one was sitting facing the sun in an Arizona flea market, no cracks anywhere. The neck / frets /tuners are clearly cheap, but the box could use a replacement neck & this would be an unbelievable guitar. I paid 2 dollars, it was marked 5. Years later a guy at the Martin factory in Nazereth PA. told me that the son of a reputable luthier took over when the father passed away. He used up all of this priceless tonewoods his father had collected. All he knew how to male was the box & bracing, the necks were bought intact & glued in place. There is a model and dated serial number on a paper lable inside the box. Model 80Y, Novenber 1973.
I don't know what to believe, only that this box has remained intact for over 40 years now without one sign of structural weakness, it's light as a feather, and when I first tapped it (in only had 2 strings on it) I was shocked at what a full wide sound it produced.
Stringing it up proved out what I thought. Intonation remains perfect.

Wow, I didn't expect my response would be read by anyone who cared, let alone help someone out.
Believe it or not, I don't know all that much about guitars - I just learned what "Dropped D" meant about a month ago. I know less than a lot of guys have forgotten about guitars - especially as far as how to play.
For what it's worth, SG stands for Solidbody Guitar, not Solid Guitar like I said earlier. That said, the SG is about as sturdy a guitar as you'll ever find.

Help I.D. My Guitar

Just bought another guitar & am having no luck finding any info on it. It is a Yamaha SE 1203A. Excellent condition, appeears to have ebony fretboard, active pickups, etc. Gave 100 bucks for it; trying to find out more about it, at least how old it its, but no web sites or info about it seem to exist. Any help Greatly appreciated.

so winter sucks so bad here in michigan and i am going to pull out each of my eyelashes with a pair of tweezerman tweezers if i watch one more second of tv. the tv gods will not win... anyone want to jam? i play guitar and some other things. i didn't mention them cause they are like the clarinet and the trombone. damn i slipped. if u r really bored too and u aren't too far away we should get together and lay down some funk.

I found this page via google, so i don't know where you're from, but at this shop they have some yamaha pacificas. I own a black one myself. I'm not sure if it is the edition you are looking for.

You have a Harmony or Kay guitar private labeled. You can go to my site at www.comparethevalue.com and click on Harmony guitars. Look at the pic's and see if it looks like a Mars stratotone. That's more than likely what it is. They are worth around $150 in good shape.

I have a turn of the century SS Stewart parlor guitar. Its a great little guitar with a slot head and Brazilian Rosewood back and sides and a Sitka Spruce top. It has a wonderful mellow tone. If any one has additional information on these old Stewart guitars please let me know. Ron

I have a dual showman tube and and cabient for sale. It sounds great with the Starcaster that I have. This amp was made in the 70's or 80's I think!?!? The head weighs about 70lbs and is a monstor. Packed with Tesla tube. E mail for pictures and price at [email protected]
