: I agree the Mesa may not be the best amp, but I too play a Les Paul standard thru an F-100 Combo Mesa-Boogie, sitting on top of a 2x12 solid back cab. You can pretty much get just the sound you seek by doing this: use the clean channel; pull the gain knob out for bright sound (that's not in the owners manual) and turn the gain up to about 90%; you will have to turn your overall volume down a bunch, maybe to 2 or 3. The LP pickups are so sensitive (made for soft 40s & 50s easy listening & jazz), that they will breakup themselves simply by playing hard & hitting the strings hard, you'll get some limited distortion there. The setting I use on the other controls are usually about 7 or 8 on the treble and about mid-way or 5 on the mid & bass. I like a bright sound w/o mud or a covered-up tone, plus my hearing's ability isn't what it used to be. All the settings I just described are also just about where I set up to get Lynyrd Skynard's early tone, kinda like Gimme 3 Steps, etc.
: The Mesa has too much distortion in the other channels to really get a LedZep or Skynard tone except for maybe Whole Lotta Love or some thing like that. Now, if you need gobs of heavy chunk for let's say, Enter Sandman, then you can sure get it!! Enjoy!!

I't's a amazing coincidence you responded to my question. Thanks for the clean channel pullout info. I never new that existed on my amp - bought it 4 months ago. The wierd part is that I write songs and my favorite song is called, "I like fish'n and Rock & Roll". Based on that alone, I trust your advise :)
