without any shadow of a doubt get yourself a 'turbo rat' if you like the 'song 2' by blur sound (and it dont get much better than that) then this is the baby for you.

Can you remove the tremelo bar from a strat? or is eaiser to just buy one without it?

To remove it you have just to to unscrew it.

have a look at your old pot, on the side should be printed a value 250k, or 500k or 1m, most volume pots are 250kOhms, you can get replacements from www.wdmusic.com

Les Paul, at 14 years old, had the brilliant idea of the taking the needle from his record player and sticking beneath the strings of his accoustic guitar, the sound would come out of his phonograph and gives birth to the electric guitar

Go to www.americanmusical.com or zzounds.com or music123.com and see if you can find your guitar listed there.If its is listed see how much they are selling for. this is the best way to find out.

buy one - playing & learning takes a long time - at 55 I think I am begining to try to put in place years of listening and watching chord fingering from TV or Video - Authentic sound is the key: the House of the Rising Sun(for instance is a classic) but played on a cheap or copy does not sound the same on a Variax + Spider 112 it all comes together! My first guitar was a Watkins Rapier (in 1963 £72) lovely, but sold on to the Regimental Band of the Scots Guards in 1979.

its ok having a guitar that can roughly sound like 12 others, but a lot of guitar playing is in the feel, ive played those variax line 6's and they have horrible wide flat chucky necks and look like a big girls blouse in a lairy tarty colour, amps arent much cop either, the pod has its place, and they have some great online learning tools, but i dont think the variax will find its place.
