: My late 70’s Strat’s sound has gradualy died with no quality to the sound and too much high end. Is this the pickups dying or something else? Brian, there are many ways pickups lose their kick. Single coils with alnico magnets like strats start losing magnetism in 2 years. Humbuckers with alnicos in about 3 years. Alnicos look like gray metal, ceramics look brownish. Also sweat and moisture corrode the magnet wire

Hmm.I think the magnets lose their charge after a while.The negative electrons meet up with the positive electrons,cancelling each other out.So, there’s no polarity.I might be wrong,if anyone else knows…pray tell! Hmm
