best thing about it is the sound..nice power sounding humbuckers but also clean and ringy for chords..nice resonance and timbre on the chord stuff but can also drive and give feedback using the mt-2 pedal..mine had small imperfection on neck bracing but didnt affect playability
12th fret action close maybe 1/16 ..the nut however was a little high..tobacco sunburst is very attractive hard to best this one for 60..compared it to a DeArmond Starfire and chose the Echotone because of the gutsier more colorful sound..the duncan designed pickups are a big plus

I bought one in the mid 90’s (don’t remember exactly), and all that I can say is that it is a great guitar for the price. Really nice guitar (bird-eye maple top, mahogany body), semi-hollow, really comfortable, and sounds really good. I’m not a pro, but I’m sure I don’t need a better guitar for the moment.

some metal heads maybe turned off by the twang, but when it comes to a strong, clear lead.
you can’t beat a Telecaster. So in the realm of the guitar, the tele may not
be the very best, but it is certainly up there.

Hi, I play a Starfield guitar. It’s an Altair SJ Trad. It was made in Japan, has a solid mahogony body with a bolt on maple neck. It has 2 single coil pickups with a humbucker at the bridge. It has a transparent red finish, similar to a Gibson cherry red. I bought it in 1993 and it has been fantastic. The pickups are particularly brilliant with a big range of tones. I’m surprised Starfields never really caught on, the only proffesional musician I’ve seen playing them is Donald Kinsey from The Kinsey Report.
Anyone know any more?

Did you ever find a Fender HM strat? I have one for sale on Ebay right now – it is a Japanese, but in very good condition (except for a 1" chip on the body). I am the original owner and have had it since around ’93ish when I bought it brand new.
: Check out eBay. They had one yesterday. Do you know there are both USA and Japan HM Strats? If you want the uSA make sure it’s legit.

any ideas yet on Roland MAunals???
im looking for a sde 330 manual, online, downloadable for free. thanks!
: I have worked with the Zoom GFX8. There is a seamless effect that will accomplish this.
: From what I remember, you would have to program the "seamless" effect into the patch that you are going TO and not FROM.
: You can get the pdf Zoom manual (pdf) online at:
: Maybe it will give you some clues as to how the Boss unit works. I can’t find any Boss or Roland manuals online anywhere.

I have a Roland Re-201 that is presently having some repair work done on it. New transistor and a few other relatively minor things. I bought the unit new in 1975 and it essentially has never been on the road. I always used it for guitar and a few times in a recording situation. It is is excellent shape because I am extremely fussy with my toys. Cleaning etc. Problem I have run into is I cannot find a source for replacement tape which Roland no longer makes. They came in little clear plastic boxes. I tried to find an e-mail address for Roaland U.S. To send a query to them for the purpose of finding out specifically what type of tape they used in there spools. Thought I would make my own. If you have any info on this let me know at the aforementioned e-mail. As far as further info. I loved the unit for over 25 years. They were well constructed and lthough limited in the range of effects for the price you could’nt beat them.

: I am considering buying either a boss ad-5 or the less expensive ad-3 for use with my Taylor 414. Is anyone familier with these units? Why would I want the more expensive one vs. the ad-3? Also, would this unit work for well for my fiddle as well?
Hi,
I have the ad-5 with my Taylor 612c and 614ce. it provides an amazing warmth and infinite tone adjustments with the eq, 2×2 chorus and reverb.I play every week at our church and go directly form the ad-5 stereo to the board. I get nothing but outstanding comments form those who hear the tone. It is easy and intuitive to use and with the addition of the guitar "size" adjuster and the "mic distance" adjuster you can get a lot of great sounds that expand your guitar capabilities.
Add a boss dd-3 dely pedal and you will be very pleased.

: someone please respond explaining about Korean vs US ovations. Less quality? Bad reputation? Please respond. Is it worth buying a Korean Ovation Celebrity Deluxe.
I reecxntly bought a new USA built Balladeer from Mars Music. At the time I also looked over the ones made in Korea.
The cost difference is significant with the USA made ones costing about 00 more. They sound similar but I noted that
one of the Korean made units had cracks between the neck and figure board. It didn’t hurt the
sound and was probably only cosmetic, but if you are buying one check it over carefully.
If you are just playing for fun or as a hobby the Korean made guitars should suit your purpose.
But if you are planning on playing to audiences I’d spend the addtional for the USA ones.
You will have more of a selection of finish and styles. No matter what you buy I don’t thnik
you’ll find a better sounding easier playing guitar. I own three of them.-
February 14, 2002 at 3:07 am #90993AnonymousGuest
The non-USA ones -so I was told- are build -in license- by Takamine guitars. For that sake you wouldn’t buy a bad one anyway (not even for concert purposes) – however, still bought a USA one myself. The difference is indeed hard to hear. Maybe its just a psychological thing to buy a USA built Ovation. Anyway – I enjoy mine for over 9 years already.

I was wondering why you want tab to learn a solo?, just play what you feel over it and find your own style. Jimi Page is without a doubt one of the greatest guitarists but what makes him brilliant is his oringinal style of his own influences i.e blues folk/country, let his style inspire you and create your "own" wicked style : I was wondernig if anyone has tab for this great Led Zepplin Cd, because the "Black dog" and "Stairway to heaven" solos are better than solos of the released version, "Led Zepplin IV".

Mike,I had the same problem, requiring the Winter 2000 and January 2001 (for a beginner’s Jazz
series by Dave K). I looked everywhere I could imagine. Finally found that Borders Books in
the U.S. has an on-line magazine service which still had the issues I was missing. I just received
them today. The site is at http://www.borders.megamags.com. Service was prompt, cost was at face
value plus a nominal shipping fee.Hope this helps,

: Players whose instructional videos you should get for right hand technique:Al DiMeola, John Petrucci from Dream Theater, Steve Morse, and Eric Johnson. I recommend using Dunlop Jazz III picks to build up your techinque. I’d stay away from the training picks and get used to using a real pick, and using the same one consistently. Stiff picks are tough to use in the beginning, but with practice you will begin to realize that the stiffness is crucial to making a positive connection with the string when you pick it. E-mail me back with your thoughts.

: : Okay, to my knowledge the Duo sonic did not have the slider switches. This would the Mustang. Mustangs were made from the early 60’s right up into the late seventies. Of course the mmodel gained a great deal of popluarity when Cobain played one. I just saw a mustang in Very Good condition, white w/tortoise pickguard for 00. It was a 1966, which I think yours is. The duosonic, had two pu’s but a hardtailpiece and one traditional switch. If the guitar has a whammy, it’s a Mustang.
: The mustang was the # 1 student model along with the Duo Sonic and the Musicmaster. Great, underated vintage fender. you’ve got a keeper I’d say!You are right about the switch. The Duosonic had a toggle switch. I have a 1956 Duosonic purchased in 1956 and it is still a good playing instrument. Bob

: I have a 1956 Duosonic Ser#12965. It was my first electric guitar ( 1956) and it is still solid and plays well. It was not a full sized neck and thus a little easier for a young kid to handle. I could uase some new tuners as the plastic is cracking off. Try one you will like it. I think 1955 or 56 was the first year for the Duosonic. Bob

I am not into Korn or Limp Cookies, but I play the 7. I started when Vai came out with passion and warfare. I also have 4 6ers, but am selling them because I view the seven string as having a greater dimension and a better feel on the neck. I also like it because you can harmonize in the lower registers. Its just a way to expand your mind and your playing.

: Sorry for the caps, but this needs attention. I am going to sell my Fender DG20CE Acoustic guitar and use that money to buy a electric guitar. I figure i’ll get 00 for it. I want to know if i should which i should spend more money on, an amplifier, or a pedal. I’m a Zepplin fan, so I want to play solo’s like Jimmy Page. I think he uses and overdrive, but should I buy an expenisve amp that has built in distortion, or should i buy a less expensive and amp spend a more of the money on a good pedal? RSVP please!
Buy a nice guitar and amp. You can purchase lots of good guitars for under 00. Forget the pedals and buy a good amp. Pedals are cheap and you can always get them later. Good luck.

It is real hard to get 2 great sounds in one (do it all guitar). You have enough money to buy a metal guitar and a strat or check out the Fender Lonestar Strat. Good luck.

hi, i had a very similar prob and it was all down to the cheap guitar i had bought.
when i checked the tuning as it stated in the book, i did’nt realise that the strings where actually far to tight so i was playing in a higher scale so to speak. this coupled with a high bridge and top end meant i had to really push hard on the frets causing all the symtoms you have stated.
it was only when a freind called round and picked it up to play that i found this out, he retuned it and a did’nt have to press half as hard on the strings.
hope this helps -

Does anyone know how much an original EH Big Muff is worth now. I’ve had mine for about 24 years now and it still makes the occasional appearance out of the gig bag. I’ve also still got an original Screaming Tree treble booster and an LPB 2 (Linear Power Booster). The Electric Mistress gave up the ghost years ago with a failed transformer – never got that fixed and it ended up in bits somewhere !

: Stevie Ray Vaughn comes to mind. The solos on the songs "Crossfire" or "Tightrope" off his "In Step" CD
: are still some of my favorites. Check out the band
: "Dream Theater" too.Hey if you want some excellent solo’s to learn check out Mark Knopfler of Dire straits! Or Brian May has some really creative stuff as well. Clapton’s rediscovery of the blues is also a good listen to learn from……
I’d stay away from Vai/Malmsteen etc. They’re very technical and good players, but in my opinion the best playing comes from within.

Best Guitars in the world. The only thing you can do to improve them is stick a strat pup in the neck. If you get a good, well balanced brdige pickup (ie, Harmonic Design ’54 special), you would be hard-pressed to find a better lead sound.

: I’m interested in some pickups mentioned to me by a colleague. Some of the brands I’m looking at are the "Dimazzio blue velvets", "Rio Grande", "Halfbreeds" "Tallboys" pickups…any comments on these pickups in terms of sound flexibility, good combinatios of one or two of these together, testimonials. The objective is to maintain flexibility across most of the music genre, with a need to ensure that tone and separations is maximised especially in a variety of venues eg. outdoor, indoor, dull, bright.

I own a 6 string Lyle that a friend gave me back in 1971 and it has mellowed beautifully with the years. I use it now for altered tuning, but for years it was my only guitar. As to the price, well, you could probably do a little better, but if it plays well and sounds good and doesn’t have any problems, then I’d say that 00 is not a bad price. I did but a Takamine 12 at a pawn shop for the same price though. Course I might just be a tad sentimental about Lyle guitars, but, I would buy it myself if it did what a guitar should do. whimsmith

: The pickups are microphonic. You have 2 options: Replace them or have them wax potted. Wax potting is cheaper, especially if you are happy with the sound. Find a repair shop that will do this for you.

In order to tune to baritone, you’ll need a scale length of at least 27". A strat type guitar will work much better than say a Les Paul type because the les paul is only about 25.5".

: I’m looking for a tremelo, bigsby-style for a fender telecaster does anybody know where i might find one? does fender make one? please help.
: thanks
: big eSorry this is a late follow up but, I just found this site. If you still need a Bigsby for your Tele check allparts.com they have them. They are expensive though, about 35.00 the part # is TP 3640. You’ll also need to change your bridge plate to a flat plate the part # is BP 051 and is about 2.00. You will probably need to change the bridge also. I don’t think the bridge that comes with the Bigsby will work on the bridge plate. You’ll need a bridge with "cups" like on a Jaguar, the part # for the bridge you need is SB 210 about 0.00 I hope this helps. I have a Bigsby on one of my Teles, they actually help in keeping your guitar in tune. I also have a Bigsby B-Bender (also known as a palm pedal) installed on another Tele. These are hard to come by but, if you ever find one don’t pass it up.
Fender does make one but, they are only available if you have a guitar Master Built. Also check e-bay

Thank you, I appreciate the feedback (and to the other’s that replied). This, as with everything else I learn about music, brings up more questions. But, I do like the attitude to forget the theory while playing. I just needed someone else out there to say it. Take Care, keep playin!

: : I would like to know if anyone has approached the guitar this way. I am self-taught so I don’t know ALL the lingo. Anyway I have a question on improvisational soloing. Say we are playing in A Major, I am playing in an AMaj Scale, then the song goes to a F#m (the vi chord in the key). The minor scale in F#m are the same notes as in AMaj. Now say that the chord changes to a DMaj (the IV chord) I notice that all the notes are the same except there is a flat 7. Also if the chord changed to a ii (Bm) the minor scale would be just the same as the A Major scale except for a flat 7. Then there is the iii and V chords (C#m and EMaj). The only difference in these scales are a sharp 4. (ie. E Major scale, C# Minor scale). Has anyone else noticed this (I’m sure it’s in a book somewhere on this planet). I am wondering if an experienced player out there uses this to their advantage (like when the "chord of the moment" changes to a V chord, you would move all of your 4’s sharp, then switch back to normal after you get back to the Root chord). I don’t know if any of this makes sense to anyone else but myself, but if it does, I would like to hear how others use this to play, or if I’m missing something. Thanks,: : -Ben

: I just paid 15 bucks for it and I think the production was pretty horrible considering he has his own studio now and everything. I can understand his preference to
: stay in the rhythm pickup mode but he probably forgot to turn up the treble on the final mix down. I fail to understand how such a huge influence on todays shredders chose not to be more innovative in recent productions. I’ve heard his reggae and blues improvisations live that were absolutely astonishing!
: Good thing I also bought Dave Brubeck "Time Out", so I didn’t feel to jipped.I agree, it is yet another disappointing Yngwie album. He’s lost it, and can’t seem to get it back.
Its been that way for some time now, though. I have also heard that live, he is better than ever, which is why

Hmm.Interesting.My theory is kinda rusty, but I’ll give it a shot. When the tune moves to F#m,Bm,C#min I’d try to stay aware of this key change.Being already familiar
with this type of transition,I’ll stay away from the unstable tones and hangout in the F#min(Pentatonic)zone.Until I hear the V chord turn-around,then I know it’s O.K. to return to the Amaj scale(pure). So be aware when the chord tones change, that will dictate your approach(choice of tones). The F#m,Bm,C#m is a 1,4,5,as you know.So why not handle it like an F# Blues??This transition opens up a lot of other options!
But for now, never mind the theory! When improvising, use
your ears and pick your tones smartly. The F#m is the minor 6 chord in Amaj.Whos relative major is Amaj!
Hope this helps. -

I don’t think there’s a way of eliminating the hum of a older single-coils entirely, but…
You should try and glue tinfoil on the inside of your guitar and the backside of your pickguard. That should take some of the hum.
You could also chek the soldering of he earth cable on the backside of the bridge. The soldering shuld be shiny. If they’re not then replase them. -

: Hi from England. You must be really upset to have sold such a treasured guitar. It’s something I worry about my kids doing, having a Lowden and an old Dobro Squareneck but I’m sure you’ll find a quality Martin if you look around. If you want one that’s old you will be paying lots of 4164380$’s (or ££££’s over here) but I was really knocked out recently when I tried a Martin 000-15s Mahogany. I was at a trade show in England when a friend told me to try this little gem. When I saw it I said I don’t like Mahogany guitars but as soon as I played it I simply could not put it down. I bought the guitar after about an hour of strumming and plucking the little beauty and still can’t put it down 4 months later. If, as I imagine, your dad bought the guitar originally because it played and sounded so great, why don’t you simply do the same. You will never replace the same guitar so go for the reasons why it was bought in the first place, sound and quality. I payed £650.00 for it so I think it retails for around 000.00 in the US Regards, Dave

The thing to do with a wah wah is to keep rocking it back and forth in time with the music, it’s more of a feel thing than anything else….listen to Voodoo Chile (Slight Return) by Hendrix, then listen to Stevie Ray Vaughan (live and studio versions), you’ll see they don’t play it the same way….a good rule of thumb is to be pushing it down at the toe on the beat, at the heel on the upbeat, of course rules are meant to be broken, so do whatever you want as you go.

Floyd Rose’s are great, but they’re extraordinarily annoying to adjust. You have to remove the string to adjust the intonation (do this only one string at a time or you’ll really play hob putting it back together). With the string removed there should be either an allen screw in front of the saddle. You have to loosen it and move the saddle where you want it. If it won’t move far enough you have to remove the screw and put it in another screw slot, there are two or three in the bridge itself. What a pain in the neck it all is.
: I got myself an Ibanez RG270DX the other day and it’s got
: that (copy of) a Floyd Rose bridge. On my other guitar
: I can simply turn screws on the back of the bridge to move the
: blocks where the strings run over back and forth, but how do I do
: that with this kind of bridge? It seems turning the tubes holding the
: strings at the back of the bridge only moves the string w.r.t. the block
: and not the block itself…some advice would be welcome.-
August 1, 2003 at 8:03 pm #89341AnonymousGuest
Floyd Rose bridges are not that hard to adjust if you follow this procedure. Tune the guitar and balance the bridge so that it is level when tuned. This is done with the springs in the back. Check intonation. If a note is sharp, loosen that string quite a bit, then using a 2mm allen wrench and a flat blade screwdriver, loosen the screw holding down the saddle enough that you can push it back about 1/16" with the screwdriver, then retighten the saddle while holding it in position with the screwdriver. If you run out of range on a hold down screw, you will have to loosen the string to slack to move it back one position. PS this technique does require some coordination, if you don’t have good hand tool skills, it’s a good way to scratch your guitar, procede with caution, 😉

: I would like to know if anyone has approached the guitar this way. Thanks,

: I have a Boss GT-3 and that is not a problem since you can use the manual function which is controlled bu tre "control" pedal. This makes all the other pedals in the board control single effects while being in the same patch- so it would be just like using stomp boxes…. The GT-3 doesn’t have such a noticible delay between patches eather, and i know there is a way to make delay effect not cut when changing patches ( it says on the manual ) but i still haven’t had the time to figure it out.– I also use single pedals along with my multi-effects, it doesn’t change sound quality….the GT-3 also gives you the option of adding your own distortion pedal in the chain.

I just paid 15 bucks for it and I think the production was pretty horrible considering he has his own studio now and everything. I can understand his preference to
stay in the rhythm pickup mode but he probably forgot to turn up the treble on the final mix down. I fail to understand how such a huge influence on todays shredders chose not to be more innovative in recent productions. I’ve heard his reggae and blues improvisations live that were absolutely astonishing!
Good thing I also bought Dave Brubeck "Time Out", so I didn’t feel to jipped. -

: I forget what the exact name of this axe is, but sure enough Gibson made a thinline, hollowbody, double cut Les Paul in the 70’s(LP Signature?). It has a Les Paul Cutaway on the bottom and an Es cut on the top. I think they have somekind of special PU’s on them. They came in gold and tobacco sunburst(there could be more but I’ve seen these at shows). They weren’t real popular(everyone wanted Standards) and were discontiued inthe late 70’s. Michael Ward of the Wallflowers and School of Fish swears by them.
Epiphone reissued them in the late 90’s.
Probably a half decent guitar if the price is right. -

peole use wah pedal (toe…heel) by simply step it up and down, or they really concentrate on the exact way they want the wah sounds like?
for example- enter sandman, it’s hard to get 100% wah with the solo. neither do kirt hammet play 100% in the live ( i mean the wah…) -

The noise you are experiencing is a common side effect of single coil pickups. Also called 60
cycle hum. Sometimes you can eliminate the noise with a noise gate, changing cables, or
moving aroung the room till you find a spot that’s quieter. You can also replace the pickups
with hum-eliminating single coils. -

I have not played a Tak, but I have played the big baby. I was impressed with the sound for the $. It sounds good but not as full as a full size acoustic would. The neck is bolt on and would easily allow for a change if need be. Taylors in my experience tend to have skinnk necks. What you should do is decide which one you feel more comfortable with. Have someone else play them for you so you can hear how the guitar sounds to others as they would be listening to you play. Don’t buy on others recommendations because only you knows what works for you. You are the one who will be miserable if you get something you really don’t wind up liking.

John Blackburn is my grandfather and as was usual in those days, many pieces were collaborations. The sheet music is correct. interestingly, "Moonlight in Vermont" is also called "the blue Haiku" because of the lyric structure.

How to play solo like Slash? So quick, fast and
with emocions? -
February 27, 2001 at 9:57 am #32104AnonymousGuest
No, they are not hard to use at all. You just have to get used to them. Yes, you must use the pedal to get the wah effect. By rocking the pedal you get the wah-wah sound. With your heel down the guitars low frequencies are emphasized, with your toe down the high frequencies are emphasized. Also, if you want to obtain a constant wah tone you can activate the pedal and leave it in any position and that tone will remain constant. That is very useful for getting a cool mid-rangy nasal tone to give some character to your solo’s. As a side note, MXR (I believe it’s MXR), makes an effect pedal that does that very thing. Instead of a wah pedal, it is a stompbox that has a couple of tone knobs that you set to emphasize a certain frequency, very cool. Anyway, I hope this helps. If you have any more questions, please post them.

Bummer. It will be VERY difficult to replace, especially since you don’t know what model. a 30’s or 40’s vintage Martin will cost BIG 4164380$ in decent shape, IF you can find one. I live in the Minneapolis area, you might try http://www.williesguitars.com They specialize in vintage american guitars in my area. They may know some other possibilities if they can’t help. By the way, I own a 1950 Martin 0-15. Like most vintage Martin owners, I would never sell it. Thats going to be the hard part. Sorry.

Everyone is looking for a certain sound. A lot of amps either tube or solid state may not give you the distortion sound you’re looking for. My Fender Princeton has a great clean sound, but I use a multi effects pedal for distortions, delay, chorus etc… to get the exact sound I want.

I am very entry level and am looking for my first guitar…I don’t want to go too much above 00, and would like folks’ advice on acoustics in that range. One place was pushing the Takamine GS 330 S real hard, and I’ve seen very good reviews on them on the Web.
Another place downplayed the Taks and said the Taylor Big Baby was the best in that price range. I took a look at the Big Babys, and my first impression was that they seemed light (too light?), the neck seemed a bit narrow (high and low E strings seemed to want to fall off the neck), and it seemed a bit quieter than others I strummed. Also wasn’t too pleased with the exposed bolts in the fretboard used to bolt the neck to the body.
BUT, what do I know? Maybe I don’t know how to evaluate a guitar properly. I mean, it is a Taylor. Several places said it was hands down the best guitar for the money. What do you think?
Any comments on the Tak, Big Baby, and others in the 00 price range would be appreciated.

A POD an amp modeling system, I’m sure you’ve heard of those, they are the "newest thing". The POD’s, however, are not part of a amplifier, they are seperate. They look kind of like a small effects processor. A speaker "cab" is simply a speaker cabinet. You know, the big box that your speaker is in. That’s it!

I can simply turn screws on the back of the bridge to move the
blocks where the strings run over back and forth, but how do I do

and not the block itself…some advice would be welcome. -

: DO YOU HAVE TO DO MIXING DONE BEFORE YOU CAN LISTEN TO
: IT ON A NORMAL RECORDER ? WHATS UP WITH THAT ??that goes for any multi track recorder……if your using allfour tracks then only two will play……because the other two are on the flip side of the tape…….and if you flip it youll hear those two in reverse…….if you only use two tracks then youll hear it all…….now to the speed thing ……multitrackers record at twice the speed….for better fidelity….. so it plays back at half the speed if on a normal cassette deck……but there is a way……because even my lowly 424mkII has a switch that allows you to record at high or low speed and the low one is normal cassette speed…..Im sure that the newer model allows the same thing

Hi Mike, I am not sure. I am also interested in this topic, I own a Starfield Teak Custom built in the beginning of the 90’s (made in Japan). It has a well crafted two piece teak wood body. The finish is natural and waxed. This guitar is absolutely great. The only thing I modified were the pickups. Originally it was equipped with two lipsticks but I made a new pickguard and put a Fender Gold Lace Sensor and a DiMarzio Fast Track in. It sounds dry and crystal clear. A little bit like a Tele. Good for blues and funk. This guitar is a killer. Now, to you question: Starfield Guitars were a subsidiary (daughter company) of Ibanez. I heard it was founded because Ibanez had too much employees and few work at this time. So the instruments were built by the Ibanez Custom Shop (I am not really sure about this) for a cheaper price. Two Series: The more expensive American Series (made in USA) and the Japan Series (made in Japan). But the models where not the same. My Teak Starfield was only available in the Japan Series. The quality was very good. Good value for money. I cannot compain about my guitar (it is not my main axe, I prefer my extremely customized Fender Strat Plus) and I will probably never sell it. I play in an ELvis Cover Band and it perfeclty suits the 70’s where James Burton played. I play it over a Peavey 5150 and a Custom Hiwatt 100. More, I don’t know at the moment. Cheers, Dominic

: Personally, the Big Muff is the best pedal distortion available. Because it is simple, it allows the guitar and amp to come through or it can be a tone generator giving you gobs of gain/distortion.
Just remember that for best results, your guitar should be in tune(I find that even the slightest tuning problem can make evil overtones with the muff) and don’t turn it all the way up. I could never get a decent sound with it dimed. Try putting the volume half way up and the sustain(distortion) half way, then play with the tone knob to add treble. I recommend a tube amp with it since a tube amp usually reacts musically to input gain(ie a pedal)rather than a solid state amp. I’ve played and owned most of the classic pedals and the Big Muff is my favorite. -

: I bought a Copicat in 1995 because I just had to have a tape echo. With the tape and heads etc. it was a pain to keep running. I had always heard the Space Echo was great, so I bought one. I think it has many more features as well as a clearer sound and is much more reliable. I don’t have the Copicat to A/B, but given the choice, I’d take the Roland. If you are a hardcore tape head, it may leave a bit to be desired. But I bet it’ll work a lot more.

Dude the pedal rocks! I use it for my overdrive. I can’t afford a big tube amp yet cuz i’m in college. But it has got so major balls, great for fast alternate picking and ect. Only disatvantage, its a pain to get a good lead setting! Also buy a Boss & band EQ for it. It will really help dail in the tone, i never shut off my eq ever! Good settings are:
LEVEL 70% Treble 50%, BASS 60% Mid 60%, MID Freq 40% I believe… or i might have to to mids switched.. sorry. Also get a Ibenaz tube screamer, that pedal will really add to your rythem and lead tone. Give you that warm tone. Its a great pedal, but i’d trade it for a tube amp with a kilker OD any day, i think everyone would. Get it!

Well, have you seen it?
First off, is it all original? If not start shaving money off. If it doesn’t have the original PU’s take even more off. Does it have a lot of flame in the finish? The more flame, the more $ it’s worth.
Your friend’s guitar is worth anywhere from 0K to 5 k depending on condition and originality. If it’s mint maybe more….Take it to a music store and watch them either: A) shit twice and die or
B) try to shaft you out of it -

I’d learn the extended minor pentatonic, the major scale, the blues scale should be moveable to any position, I ‘d also learn the modes. That should cover most stuff.

If you live in the Virginia/Tennessee area, this is for you! Think of a cross between Kittie, Scratching Post, Sheryl Crow, Alanis Morrisett, Slipknot, KoRn, Static-X, and whatever else you feel like adding into the mosh pit! ‘Cause anything goes, that’s what makes it so original!! How is that original?? ‘Cause no matter who you are, or where you go, you will always have someone to look up to, or give credit for their help in your inspiration! The band name I’ve got in mind is only a suggestion, and this will not be MY band, it will be OUR band!

The pickups are microphonic. You have 2 options: Replace them or have them wax potted. Wax potting is cheaper, especially if you are happy with the sound. Find a repair shop that will do this for you.

Can you play barre/power chords yet?
You can find diagrams at lots of websites, and powerchords are pretty do-able for beginners if you practice them. Once you know powerchords, almost all punk songs will be within your grasp. Send me an e-mail if you’d like and I can either send you some tabs or direct you to a place with some.

Yeah,
Jake E Lee uses Charvels, Deep Purple and David Gilmore are about as heavy as Bon Jovi(another strat user), Yngwie and Maiden are far from being grindcore/death metal. NO death metal guitarist uses single coil pickups. They are not hot enough. -

i understand, when i was 14 there’s noone outthere giving me advise on how to play a guitar.
1.how long it would take? one of my friend made it in 2 weeks to master all the basic rythm, and some of them never make it.
2.metalica use ESP guitars. however, gibson is more all rounded. at least u can play matal and hard rock.gibson epiphone sounds pretty ok now (relatively cheap)i will recommend u to go for mutli-effect(rp-100,zoom505II….cheaper one), pedals is kinda expensive for a beginner, and u dont have enought experience to adjust the tone.
or just use the dist channer on the amp. it sounds pretty good also.
anyway, it’s just my own opinion for a beginner…good luck.

: Ok, I am like, the ultimate metallica/jimi hendrix fan, now ive been playing ugitar for about 2 years and i am now serious about guitar being my like, now, i can get by around 400 to spend on a guitar, i want a guitar that could make the metallica sound, but have jimi hendrix blues to it as well, plz help me about, name the brand and name
well if youve been playing for 2 years you should know the difference between a great feeling guitar and a mediocre one……now go try every brand out there in your price range and you can narrow down to what FEELS the best……my choice just happeneed to be a Les Paul…..which also holds its value…..but it is also heavy as hell……..with the technology today youll be able to get any sound you want with the flip of a switch on a nice processor….or by changing the pickups

The MT-2 is quickly becoming my favorite distortion pedal… I preferred the blues driver because I have a Marshall amp that has a great distortion tone but the MT-2 is the most versatile distortion I have found. It can give tones from a warm distortion to a nasty grundge distortion… anything you want i run the level a little high to overdrive my pre amp but the pedal itself has a great tone if you have a good amp try these settings: level 12 o’clock bass: almost all the way up high: 2 o’clock mids level:2 o’clock and pan the mids freq for tone to the far left is a heavy tone and to the far right is a bright distortion…. the pedal is great my only complaint is that it is a littlr heavy if you ever want a clean lead… i switch to my blues driver to play lead and still match the level of my MT-2 Have fun with it, Ben

Hi,
I have an EMG in the neck and a passive DiMarzio X2N humbucker in the bridge. This works fine but you are unable to ground your passive pickups when installed. This causes a hum when using the pickup. It isn’t bad with a humbucker but when using a passive single coil, it gets noisy. If you want to have two independent volumes than you can ground the pickup. You are unable to use the pickups at the same time though.Jj

Hi,
sus stands for suspended. A suspended chord replaces the third with a fourth, a sixth or a ninth(which is a 2nd an octave up.) They sound as if they are neither major nor minor. Like they are suspended. If you are familiar with Queensryche they use suspended chords quite a bit.
Tabs for some common sus chords(starting from low e):Asus2: x 0 2 2 0 0
Dsus2: x x 0 2 3 0
Dsus4: x x 0 2 3 3Hope this helps!

Help I’m looking for a manual of thefender amplifier "The Twin" USA with tubes (no red color)
-
February 25, 2001 at 1:04 am #80275AnonymousGuest
Definatly check the amp out first. When you turn it on the tubes should glow blueish color.Crank it for a few minutes, make sure it doesn’t cut-off or get shitty. It should keep it’s clear tone at high volumes.Look at the speakers, you’ll want the original fender speakers in there. Also, check each channel and the bright switch, make sure they’re functioning right.$699 seems kinda high,so try to check out other stores before you buy. $550-$650 is about right. If you really want it,DON’T BULLSHIT.Throw what ya’ got right on the counter! If it works well, your money will be well spent. Good Luck
-
February 25, 2001 at 12:12 am #80293AnonymousGuest
If it works well, and the tubes are OK (should play loud) Twins range from $450-$650. Remember, tubes cost$ to replace and can be a hassle to get, but the sound a Twin can get can be worth it. If you really want it, offer them less. $699 seems on the high side to me?? But I’m cheap.

: I have Fender powerhouse stratocaster and line 6 flextone 2 xl and I play progressive metal. Fender has a poplar body and a place for a humbucker. Is the SD custom (SH-5) good choice for this quitar and music I play. I need humbucker with clarity for special chords. I’m tired because when I hit minor A add9 I can’t hear every note so…. is this a good choice or something else. I like new petrucci’s sound (dream theater) / and old romeo’s sound (symphony X)

Back in ’81,I was shopping for a high output pickup with good tone.I nearly bought the Schecter Super Rock
pickup,be the dealer refused to sell it to me.His words
were,"Super Rock my balls!!" "Van Halen uses the SH-5".
So I installed them in my ’77 LES PAUL.The other guitar player in my group was using the DiMarzio X2N. AT high volumes the SH-5 kept it’s tonal integrity, while the X2N turned to SHIT!! I was using a DOD overdrive 250,a cranked Twin Reverb and a Cry-baby. I’ve been chasing that sound for years!! The SH-5 is about 14.5 ohms with a ceramic magnet. It’s got high output with classic tone!
Thanx for listening to my story. -

Just want to know exactly what is a preamp and what does it do for you ?
-
May 12, 2004 at 5:27 pm #96456AnonymousGuest
I would also like to know what it is, but from what i’ve picked up its an amplifier used to boost the line signal from very quiet/small to much larger, i read its generally for microphones; why do you hear how so many guitarists have them then? I’ve studied some popular artists rigs and find they plug their guitar into a preamp then into several further ‘poweramps’ then into cabinets; that’s about all i know so anyone else?

Why don’t you try a Boss heavy metal pedal(or other brand) through a medium priced amp at the music store ? Since you want to play at lower volumes, a good distortion pedal may be all you need.

Martin makes a DM series acoustic that sounds great. I think Guitar Center has them for 00-600. Guild makes good acoustics in your price range, (though I personally don’t care for Guilds) Might want to check out an Alvarez too. Pick one that YOU like, not what everybody else says you should buy. Good luck.

SERIOUSLY NO SCAMS! LOTS OF CASH, FAST AND COMPLETELY LEGAL,
THIS REALLY WORKS!! THIS REALLY CAN MAKE YOU EASY MONEY!! IT
WORKS!!! BUT YOU HAVE TO FOLLOW IT TO A LETTER FOR IT TO WORK!
ALL THIS TAKES IS .00 NO FURTHER RISK. IT JUST MIGHT BE WORTH
LOOKING AT.
A little while back, I was browsing through newsgroups, just like you are now, and came
across an article similar to this that said you could make thousands of dollars within weeks
with only an initial investment of .00! So I thought," Yeah, right, this must be a scam",
but like most of us, I was curious, so I kept reading. Anyway, it said that you send .00
to each of the 6 names and address stated in the article. You then place your own name
and address in the bottom of the list at #6, and post the article in at least 200 newsgroups.
(There are thousands) No catch, that was it. So after thinking it over, and talking to a few
people first, I thought about trying it. I figured what have I got to lose except 6 stamps
and .00, right? Like most of us I was a little skeptical and a little worried about the legal
aspects of it all. So I checked it out with the U.S. Post Office (1-800-725-2161) and they
confirmed that it is indeed legal! Then I invested the measly .00. Well GUESS
WHAT!!… within 7 days, I started getting money in the mail! I was shocked! I figured it
would end soon, but the money just kept coming in. In my first week, I made about
5.00. By the end of the second week I had made a total of over ,000.00! In the third
week I had over 0,000.00 and it’s still growing. This is now my fourth week and I have
made a total of just over 2,000.00 and it’s still coming in rapidly. It’s certainly worth
.00, and 6 stamps. Let me tell you how this works and most importantly, why it
works….also, make sure you print a copy of this article NOW, so you can get the
information off of it as you need it. STEP 1: Get 6 separate pieces of paper and write the
following on each piece of paper "PLEASE PUT ME ON YOUR MAILING LIST." Now
get 6 US .00 bills and place ONE inside EACH of the 6 pieces of paper so the bill will
not be seen through the envelope to prevent thievery. Next, place one paper in each of the
6 envelopes and seal them. You should now have 6 sealed envelopes, each with a piece of
paper stating the above phrase, your name and address, and a .00 bill. What you are
doing is creating a service by this. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY LEGAL! Mail the 6
envelopes to the following addresses:
1) Randall Hickman New Market, TN 37820
2) Jack 6342 S.E.83rd Portland, OR.97266
3) Ben Spyrison 3175 West Forest Rd. Freeport, Il. 61032
4) C Bare 2965 Leawood Dr Anchorage AK 99515
5) J. G. Dysarczyk 3508 Paseo De Los Americanos 82 Oceanside, CA 92056
6) PUT YOUR NAME HERE and forward
STEP 2: Now take the #1 name off the list that you see above, move the other names up
(6 becomes 5, 5
becomes 4, etc…) and add YOUR Name as number 6 on the list. STEP 3: Change
anything you need to, but try to keep this article as close to original as possible. Now, post
your amended article to at least 200 newsgroups. (I think there are close to 24,000
groups) All you need is 200, but remember, the more you post, the more money you
make!
—DIRECTIONS —HOW TO POST TO NEWSGROUPS—- Step 1) You do not need
to re-type this entire letter to do your own posting. Simply put your cursor at the
beginning of this letter and drag your cursor to the bottom of this document, and select
‘copy’ from the edit menu. This will copy the entire letter into the computers memory. Step
2) Open a blank "notepad" file under accessories in windows and place your cursor at the
top of the blank page. From the ‘edit’ menu select ‘paste’. This will paste a copy of the
letter into notepad so that you can add your name to the list. Step 3) Save your new
notepad file as a .txt file. If you want to do your postings in different sittings, you’ll always
have this file to go back to. Step 4) Use Netscape or Internet explorer and try searching
for various newsgroups (on-line forums, message boards, chat sites, discussions.) Step 5)
Visit these message boards and post this article as a new message by highlighting the text
of this letter and selecting paste from the edit menu. Fill in the Subject, this will be the
header that everyone sees as they scroll through the list of postings in a particular group,
click the post message button. You’re done with your first one! Congratulations…THAT’S
IT! All you have to do is jump to different newsgroupes and post away, after you get the
hang of it, it will take about 30 seconds for each newsgroup! **REMEMBER,
THE MORE NEWSGROUPS YOU POST IN, THE MORE MONEY YOU WILL
MAKE!! BUT YOU HAVE TO POST A MINIMUM OF 200** That’s it! You will begin
reciving money from around the world within days! You may eventually wany to rent a
P.O.Box due to the large amount of mail you will receive. If you wish to stay anonymous,
you can invent a name to use, as long as the postman will deliver it. **JUST MAKE
SURE ALL THE ADDRESSES ARE CORRECT.** Now the WHY part: Out of 200
postings, say I receive only 5 replies (a very low example). So then I made .00 with my
name at #6 on the letter. Now, each of the 5 persons who just sent me .00 make the
MINIMUM 200 postings, each with my name at #5 and only 5 persons respond to each of
the original 5, that is another 5.00 for me, now those 25 each make 200 MINIMUM
posts with my name at #4 and only 5 replies each, I will bring in an additional 25.00!
Now, those 125 persons turn around and post the MINIMUM 200 with my name at #3
and only receive 5 replies each, I will make an additional 26.00! OK, now here is the
fun part, each of those 625 persons post a MINIMUM 200 letters with my name at #2 and
they each only receive 5 replies, that just made me ,125.00!!! Those 3,125 persons will
all deliver this message to 200 newsgroups with my name at #1 and if still 5 persons per
200 newsgroups react I will receive 5,625,00! With a original investment of only .00!
AMAZING! When your name is no longer on the list, you just take the latest posting in
the newsgroups, and send out another .00 to names on the list, putting your name at
number 6 again. And start posting again. The thing to remember is, do you realize that
thousands of people all over the world are joining the internet and reading these articles
everyday, JUST LIKE YOU are now!! So can you afford .00 and see if it really
works??
I think so… People have said, "what if the plan is played out and no one sends you the
money? So what! What are the chances of that happening when there are tons of new
honest users and new honest people who are joining the internet and newsgroups everyday
and are willing to give it a try? Estimates are at 20,000 to 50,000 new users, every day,
with thousands of those joining the actual internet. Remember, play FAIRLY and
HONESTLY and this will work. thanks for participating -

I have heard good things about the Duncan CUSTOM CUSTOM model. I have not heard this pickup personally, but I know of someone who swears by them. He plays a lot of Queensryce stuff and has them in an ESP I believe.
I have used their JB pickup. A lot of heavy metal players use them. Very versital pickup. SOme say they are bright but I have used several in differnt guitars and they crunch up nice and sound good clean too.

I have Fender powerhouse stratocaster and line 6 flextone 2 xl and I play progressive metal.

Elliot Easton (formerly of the Cars, now with CCR) has asked me to help find homes for four of his ultra fine guitars! They are all newer (not 80’s era) left handed custom shop intruments. They are also fully authenticated and come with autographed pictures, picks, and stuff. Please email me if you are seriously interested. ([email protected])V

I am trying to remember the make and model of a particular guitar I played a couple of times in a shop back in the mid 80’s. It was a *solid-body* nylon string guitar, totally electric, but shaped like a single cutaway classical guitar, complete with spruce (or spruce-like) top and classical guitar-style tuning heads. It even had a round "hole"-shaped depression in the solid body under the strings. Two more things I remember but are unsure of: that it may have been a Yamaha, and that it may have been called an "Andy Summers Model".
If anyone can, please name that guitar’s make and model. Thanks!

However you have take notice of the body style, and the RR1s are hard to play sitting down in my opinion while the sl 1 is versatile enough for standing or sitting and you have to notice the difference in pickups with only one humbucker being present on the soloist. Wish I had a tough decision like this make, too expensive for my blood man. I learned alot time ago, if your good enough it dont matter what your playing on. Peace

I own both, they are both great guitars. THe neck of the rr-1 nd the soloist is the same so pull offs and bends are no different on them. The only disadvantage with the rr-1 is it only has 22 frets and is a little harder to sit down and play it. Although, using a strap it makes it easy to sit down and play, just a little different then when sitting and playing a strat type guitar, like the soloist : Please tell me your honost opions about the : Jackson Randy Rhoads RR1T : and the : SL-1 Soloist USA : Tell me some of the advantages and Disadvantages, Would the soloist and rr1t be good enough guitars to perform infront of audiances, concerts, gigs, which one would be ebtter for the pull offs, bends, i’ve narrowed my dicission to the Randy Rhoads RR1T and the SL-1 Soloist

A Fender Stratocaster(for 50-900 you could get an American Hendrix Model) and a humbucker equipt axe like an ESP for your Kirk Hammett jones. 1400 is enough to buy one really nice guitar or two nice guitars that do different things. Check Gbase.com. Type in what you want and sit back!

: I don’t know if this exists or not, but if there is some kind of see through paint to tint it blue (filter away the red), that should be enough. Thanks.: Mike

I was looking for the same sound for a while. So I started playing around with a few stomp boxes. I play on a combo amp, a marshall vs265r the distortion is nice and all but sometimes I needed more out of it. I use the following to get that sound. I put jim dunlop fuzz face (the one hendrix use to use) that goes into a lovetone brown source pedal to get the thick bass feel to it and then an eq set to a smiley face type of setting it works wonders. The lovetone’s gonna set you back a couple hundred but believe me it is very worth the price!!!!! Hit me back and let me know what you think.

Check out Doug Cerrito and Terrance Hobbs of Suffocation. Though they are disbanded pick up thier Pierced From Within cd, try to ignore the death metal vocals and just listen to the guitar guitar work. They are the total extremity of killer technical guitar work. They seem to never use the same riff and the time changes and chord structuring is just absolutely the finest I have ever heard. When I saw them live a few years back the guitar playing was so excellent, I thought they were just faking it and air-guitarring it to the cd, but they were playing it and I couldn’t believe their precision and technicality. Throughout the whole set not once did I see one of them even look at thier fretboards and the riffs and solos were right on dead perfect. They are tied at the no.1 spot in my book.

: : Hmm.Take your time and make sure your fingers are properly curled over the fret board.Position your left hand so that only the tips of your fingers are pressing
: : the notes. Then strum up and down, just brushing the strings.Try not to press the strings too hard, you only need a little presure to ring the notes.Playing clean chords will take some practice. So,put in at least two hours a day doing just that. You’ll get it.
: : Good Luckevery guitar player has gone thru the same problem. Icould give you a million sugestions but practice is the answer… try curling your fingers like a cat claw, hit each string one at a time and get a clear note from each string…don’t be afraid to move your fingers around till you get the sound you are looking for…a buddy of mine says you aren’t a real musician untill you’ve played a million notes…best of luck …don’t get discouraged… you never feel worse after you put your guitar down…wavey!

There are many to choose from. I personally like the ones with LED lights instead of the needle display. Don’t spend more than 0 – 0. Boss makes good ones as well as Sabine. Make sure that you get a chromatic tuner. This type will allow you to tune to any note. Some guitar tuners only allow for standard tuning EADGBE.

The string trees have caused tuning problems for me in the past. You might try graphtech trees, I love them. Or You try not running any trees at all. The nut might also cause some binding. If it is bone or plastic, try using graphite from a penci. If You hear any noises(ticcks & pings) when tremming thats noot a good thing . GOD LUCK

: Ok, I am like, the ultimate metallica/jimi hendrix fan, now ive been playing ugitar for about 2 years and i am now serious about guitar being my like, now, i can get by around $1400 to spend on a guitar, i want a guitar that could make the metallica sound, but have jimi hendrix blues to it as well, plz help me about, name the brand and name :!st. The amp you ultimately use will have a lot to do w/the sound. Metallica drop tunes 1/2 step, which affects the overall sound of them. Hendrix "mainly" used a Strat through Marshalls. But,TO ME, he sounded lousy live. You can go with a Strat that offers some sort of Humbucker at the bridge position, or IMHO,better yet, a PRS Custom 24,or, better YET, a McInturff Polaris Pro. The PRS is the most expensive, a nice axe,but I don’t like the pups. The McInturff has a LOT going for it in this price range. Hope this helped.

yeah your right with what im looking for but it seems to become too muddy and not quite enough distirtion when i use the just the marshall sound although i was thinking of using just the marshall sound and the eqaulizer or maybe getting just an overdrive pedal to just put a little bit of extra distortion into the sound. What do you think ?

Don’t forget fingerstylists either. Chet Atkins, Merle Travis and Jerry Reed.
In fact, if you want to hear something that’ll make your hair curl, go to http://www.ubl.com, search on Chet Atkins, and buy the CD that’s a double album with him and Jerry Reed. Also check out the one that’s Chet and Les Paul. They’ll either inspire you to practice or to smash your guitar.

Mesa/Boogie makes ultra high quality, awesome sounding amplifiers. You can get just about any tone you want, and if it breaks (how far did you drop it to break it anyway? They’re built like tanks) they have great service. They have one of the best customer service departments I’ve ever dealt with.
You can check out reviews at http://www.harmony-central.com/ All sorts of players rate equipment.

: Okay, to my knowledge the Duo sonic did not have the slider switches.
The mustang was the # 1 student model along with the Duo Sonic and the Musicmaster. Great, underated vintage fender. you’ve got a keeper I’d say! -

: I think you are going to be ditching the pedals. I know what you are looking for, all out crunch with some defining cleaness to make it more massive. I think you should try going straight into your amp and playing with the other channels. Your Marshall should be able to get thi sound. you’ll have to play with it though. And expect to find this sound at an extemely high volume when the tubes are working hard.

From everything I’ve heard, an Invader is really dark loud but dark and will sound like mud in a dark wood. I’d go with a seymour duncan JB (Dwarves, older punk)or a DiMarzio PAF Pro(works well for bad religion, wizo, etc.)

Hello Death Metal fellow!
The best guitars for death grind are Jackson\Charvel or BC Rich. You also need nice and hot pick ups. (The X2N will do great!) You also need a gainey amp.
Death Metal needs sustain which bolt on guitars(like the strat) don’t do well. Idealy you want a neck through axe with a pair of humbuckers. A mahogony or koa body would help also.Let the metal flow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

if you use a vintage style tremolo (wilkenson/fender etc) with locking tuners will it still go out of tune after doing tons of dive bombs? what exactly causes a vintage style tremolo to go out of tune? and do locking tuners like sperzel or schaller do anything to prevent it from going out of tune?

What style are you looking for? Do you want stuff that is technically difficult to improve you picking or some interesting phrasing and such?
As for difficult stuff to learn to improve your playing the Satrianis Zappas and Vai’s are ok. I prefer to learn Chuck Schundler(Death) and Fredrik Thordendal(Meshugga) to improve my chops.
As for original interesting playing to improve you creativity, Ty Tabor(Kings X), Denis D’Amore(Voivod), Andy Cohen(Silkworm), and Page Hamilton(Helmet) will teach ya some cool playing.Jj

I picked up a 1962 Fender Duosonic about 10 years ago for around £200 (about $280), which wasn’t in great condition but sounded fine with the volume cranked right up! Still plays OK, but I think the neck is a little twisted as the low E never seems to tune up correctly. Is there a way to fix this?

Yes I totally agree, I suppose things do become popular because many jump on the bandwagon. Personaly I don’t think I could handle another string, I have enough trouble with the 6. But I still think I can be useful for more classical music, I am not a fan of limp, to me it’s pants. Plus wasn’t there a saying about adding strings to your bow being a good thing. Perhaps it’s popular in rock for many different reasons than in classical of some jazz. Cheers, Phil
: : Let’s be honest. There are only two reasons that 7 strings are popular again(George Van Eps fans notwithstanding): KORN AND LIMP BIZKIT.
: Steve Vai repopularized it to some extent, but it took those twoto blow it up. Now most manufacturers sell at least seven string models. -

: Hi Tara. Couldn’t find a tougher song to cover eh?
Really, I remember reading that James Iha did the solo on that song and used a detuning harmony patch on his digitech IP-333. You couild probably get close with an octave pedal and a whammy pedal. No whammy? Use a slide and whiz it up the strings with some delay.
Good luck. Tell me how it works out. -

I think the pickup cavity is already routed out so you
can use humbuckers,I’m not sure. But if not,try some high-output stacked pickups before you chop up your axe.Duncan "Screamin’ Demons",Dmarzio HS-3’s, are pretty cool. There are others that you might want to try.

Ray Gomez was a Fusion cat back in the day.He did work
with Stanley Clarke,Lenny White,Narada Walden and a host of others.I think he’s been out of circulation these days, but he was a huge influence on me.Steve Khan
John Tropea,Cornell Dupree,Icarus Johnson and Lee Ritenour(Captain Fingers)were also big names of 70’s fusion. Most of the stuff Ray Gomez played on was some
baddass fusion classics. He also did guitar tracks for
Cat Steven’s "Was dog a Dounut",a big Funk/Disco hit.-

Ray Gomez… surely the most ignored guitar player, among the great ones! I think he is one of the best, I’d say… Beck, Santana, Van Halen… and Ray Gomez, among others, of course. Or should I say Ray Gomez in first place? I’ve been looking for records with his playing in for years, I’ve been at some gigs… emotion at its maximum level. He impressed me so much that i was for one or two hours after the gig wandering around the city, trying to recover.. serious! He’s the essence, the heart of the real thing in rock, jazz, soul, r’n’b… energy!!!

I don’t know what you mean by "twisting" the arm. You should either push the arm down towards the body, or pull it up to change the note or chord (or go back and forth for a tremolo sound). The arm shouldn’t be screwed in tight. It should just hang there until you want to use it. It sounds like to me that you are trying to screw it in farther to use it, instead of pushing down or pulling up ??

Eddie G is right. But if your not going to take lessons, a good place to start is to try and mimic your favorite songs, not just the notes and chords, but the sound as well. It is always good to practice scales, but don’t limit yourself to just pentatonic scales. If you don’t read tab , learn it.

I get a great maiden sound out of my strat (Phantom, Aces, 2mins etc). I use a mashall jackhammer distortion pedal, touch of reverb, & the secret weapon, a pitch shifter (very different to chorus). If used correctly a pitch shifter is awesome for thicking sounds, what I do is send the right channel down a 10th of a semitone & the left up a 10th. I am not a great lover of expensive guitars, look at it his way man went to the moon on technology that was weaker than a scientific calculator which was placed in a washing machine, but look at the pc’s we have today. The same is for guitars on the whole £250 get’s you a great guitar. I am sure many of the older players would agree that us babies are very spoilt for choice. SO on that note, just think of how many FX units are out there, today you can get almost any sound these units & of course you ears. However the only sound that I think a strat just can’t get, or any other guitar for that matter is the gibson SG, if I ever get rich I am going to by me a few of these. See YA phil

Look at it this way, Keith Richards would say why do people play a 6 string when they can’t master a 5? Personaly I think an extra string can be very useful ie in bass runs, finger picking or thicking chords, listen to a bit of Egberto Gismonti it’s a mix of very complicate jazz with a touch of classical & brazilian styles thrown in, he plays a 7, 9, 13 string it’s a very different sound, sounds like 3-4 seperate instruments. Well that’s what I think, I suppose there are many other styles & sounds other than blues, rock & metal.

The Voodoo Labs will power anything supposedly according to the company- I haven’;t come across one pedal it hasn’t – I use it on EH Small Clone and MY EH Bad Stone-(Battery Clip) You may have to buy a different adpaptor as the ones they give most of are for the boss Style adpators- Open the box when you buy one and you’lls ee what I mean- but a very worthwhile investment overall- made my life 100.000000000X easier.

i have a chance to buy my friend’s white mexican strat for a good price. i mainly play heavy metal along the lines of iced earth, iron maiden and megadeth. with some death metal/grindcore sometimes. if i replaced the stock single coils with two humbuckers can it get beefy sounding? i’m thinking of getting a dimarzio x2n at the bridge, and a dimarzio air norton at the neck. and some graph tech saddles and nut. maybe some sperzel locking tuners.

yea iron maiden used a fender strat but japan made.If ur lookin to sound like heavy like cannibal corpse or six feet under if u know who they are there heavy but guitars for that music is like a jackson or esp.Id say the fender would be good enough If you get them pups in it for iron maiden and megadeath stuff like that.

: I dont know what a la Trey Azagoth is but I know one thing. Speed picking is in the elbow not the hand. Use heavy gauge pick and use the elbow. NO WRIST!!!! Speed picking can be developed by many ways. The elbow only coment is somewhat unfounded. However if you want speed the elbow should function like where a ROD is connected to a crankshaft and your pick is the piston. The wrist will help a great deal when it comes to string skipping. Also to better define my argument watch EVH when he does his tremelo/speed picking its almost all wrist and trying to emulate that will drive ya crazy. GET a metronome and practice chromatic and scalular exercises using down, up picking. Also make sure you can move from string to string fluintly. K. Hammett would just sit and watch TV while playing open strings. Developing skills like Trey’s is admirable but find your own voice because music will come out of you then.

I spent a little time with Al Dimeola just before I left to attend Berklee and he held my wrist and hand and showed me how his picking technique is derived 100% from the wrist. No elbow. Onthe other hand, I took several lessons from Harry Leahey and he showed me how his technique is derived 100% from the elbow. The point is that no one technique is correct for everyone. You can read more about this in the Stylus Pick method which you can get at http://www.styluspick.com. Great posts, everyone, Rock On!

Hmm.Take your time and make sure your fingers are properly curled over the fret board.Position your left hand so that only the tips of your fingers are pressing
the notes. Then strum up and down, just brushing the strings.Try not to press the strings too hard, you only need a little presure to ring the notes.Playing clean chords will take some practice. So,put in at least two hours a day doing just that. You’ll get it.
Good Luck-

Practice for 2 hr a day with G A D C Em in their open position & in 6 weeks you will strum them easily. After this go to bar chords try to get F, & then you will learn chords in seconds. A great song to start with is luck man by the verve. It starts G – just to 2 downward strums, then D – just to 2 downward strums then A – which has about 4 strums. This goes around about 5 times then us Em, G, D, A for the chorus. After a couple of weeks you will nail these chords & will develope a strumming style to match the song & hey presto your playing a song. Guitars are very, very easy to play, it’s practicing that’s hard. When practicing just remember, the road to ruin is paved with good intentions! Amen.

Frank Zappa, too many to list my favs are black napkins, muffin man, city of tiny lights. If you are new to the world of Zappa then listen to the strictly commercial album for a taster. As he did make over 250 albums, he is without doubt the best guitarists ever born, some are faster (slightly) but Frank can play any style from rock to jazz to bebop. Every guitarists should have at least some Zappa music. Phil G

I’ve had an acoustic for a couple of years and have learned all the basic chords and feel somewhat comfortable with it. Now, I just bought a Fender Fat Strat and want to start getting serious. My interests are rock, blues, heavy stuff etc. What’s the most efficient way to learn? How do I make the best use of my practices? Playing up and down the Pentatonic scale over and over? Trying to mimic my favorite songs? Or are there any really good books out there? Thanks!

Whammy bar is just slang for Tremolo arm. Using it just takes practice. Listen to some early VanHalen, eddie knows how to use it. A unison bend is just bending more than one note at a time, at the same time,
in unison. Make sense? -

Sorry, I hit the wrong key. I saw this thread by chance and wanted to offer my opinion on electronic tuners. If you choose to use one as the sole method of tunning, you are risking the chance of having a lazy ear. That is, you won’t be able to tune without one. When playing a gig, yes, they are very useful since you can’t hear yourself as well. At practice, avoid them. You will learn to tune and that,in itself, requires practice. I use a tuning fork to get started after changing strings, but thats about it. When playing with friends, I let them tune with their tuners and then I tune to them.

Hmm.A difficult question.Tone quality is a subjective thing. What sounds good to you or I may sound like shit
to someone else.I think a lot of it depends on your ear
and musical influences, this will shape your perception
of tonal quality.Like Women(no disrespect) who want to look like Cindy Crawford,we strive to sound like our guitar heros, often in vain.Studio technology can change and re-arrange sounds tremendously,so it’almost impossible to get the same tone. Also, a lot of the tones we hear are usually accidents that sound good.My first instructor wouldn’t teach me riffs or solos because he wanted me to sound like MYSELF.I don’t have the fingers of Eddie V.,Ray Gomez,or Billy Gibbons.I can only try to understand where these dudes are coming from.In the end I think it’s really about picking YOUR tones and style and being happy with our own sound.
Play on players! -

Dude, you have to get an allen-key that will fit the the screws on the locking nut. loosen them. loosen the strings with the tunning keys. use the same allen key to loosen the locking mechanism on the bridge and pull the sting out. re-string it. let the strings stretch for about a day before you re-lock the nut. Hope it helped… Dave Sheldon

: Amen Brother. Tone, or what ever you want to call it depends a great deal on how tasty the playing is. However, obviously those same flavourful licks will sound better or worse to some degree depending on the gear. We shouldn’t send the message that you can buy tone.
: b:My main rig use to be a Gibson 345 through a Twin. I had a LP style axe made for me at the time I was useing the 345. Upon hearing the CUSTOM made LP,all my band members stated,"the 345 sounds better." Now,so everyone understands, that was me playing both axes, through the Twin, useing the same picks and cord. Also the same songs. Is someone going to say that they WEREN’T hearing a TONAL difference in the guitar??

Okay there are 2 considerations, if you just want to record in high quality use a sound blaster live value at £45, don’t spend your £150 on the full live or platinum, they are the same card with the same synth but have 5.1 decoder. Trust me I have set up many studios & know. However what you must consider is, are you going to record vocal or guitar onto a seperate track whilst the sound card is playing the backing track? If you are then you need a full duplex card. Now let me say this very clearly no sound blaster card is full duplex. It may say so on the box, but what it doesn’t say is that it only does this in shitty 8 bit, plus if you wish to add an effect ie an aural exciter or vocal harmonizer on the fly the latency is so long your ears & mouth will just go pare shaped. So this card is only good for recording 1 track at a time with no effects added on the fly. If I was you I would save you hard earned cash & buy a Yamaha sw1000xg which I have also fitted in many professional studios. In a nutshell it’s the dogs bollocks. Read some reviews or check out their web page at http://www.xgfactory.com/

If you are still looking, they still come up on Ebay (one’s up for the 3rd time) not a bad price but it’s been "modified". Check out eBay. They had one yesterday. Do you know there are both USA and Japan HM Strats? If you want the uSA make sure it’s legit. : : HI, EVERYONE, I’M LOOKING FOR A FENDER HM STRAT ;DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE I CAN BUY GUITAR LIKE THAT???

Amen Brother. Tone, or what ever you want to call it depends a great deal on how tasty the playing is. However, obviously those same flavourful licks will sound better or worse to some degree depending on the gear. We shouldn’t send the message that you can buy tone.

that depends on what type of wah u want. I have tried almost all kind oh wah, but it seems that only dunlop 535Q cry baby rules! this babe got 6 different setting of different wah. u can even control that wah level and variation level under the stomboxes( it seems to be the only drawback cos u need to turn the whole thing over and adjust,BUT as a engineer i know that design will ensure the best durability of the unit)
it will wah your balls to the wall……
dont get some stupid wah with not much variation in wah level…cos we r (at least i am ) not reach enought to buy a wah and we cant hear clearly the difference b4 and afther using it. -

Tone, Total bollocks or the mystery gift from the guitar gods?
With all our Fx pedals, studio gear, mixed-string gauges, guitars, changing pick ups, putting our speakers on wooden floors, spinning turntables & playing whilst hanging upside down in the shower room, what are we achieving. What is all this talk about tone, what is it, who’s got it, how do you copy it & how do you get good tone of your own. Is this a load of bollocks or the most important area of guitaring? If so why? All I know is in the last 3 yrs I have played with more knobs than Pamela Anderson, only to later to find out tone is also all in the picking, style on playing & technique. Clearly no-one really knows where tone is, & all I know is when someone finds him, the last thing they do is tell every fucker else. So if you have found our tone, please tell us! Phil.

Well you should go to the doc, but he’ll probably tell you to rest it. I have a funny feeling I know what it may be, because I get it now and then from Bricklaying. When I get calluses from laying bricks it hurts slightly but I still have to lay (no lay no pay)& what happens is your fingers sweat & soften the calluse, then you fingers get very sore, & your brain (nervous system) reacts by attempting to stop you griping, touching with these finger tips, so you get a jerking action. After this phase your tips of your fingers are just numb but the ligaments & joints are very tight & sore. The easest way to see if you fingers are overworked is to ask yourself if you can still grap hot things that you could do before ie a cup of tea. IF this is the case then I suggest you cut you playing time down untill you heal. Plus check your technique. But most importantly of all warm up before playing. However if you are like me & work a great deal then screw the warm up & do what I do Place Your Hands in Hot Water for 2 mins (I wash the dishes before playing, my wife thinks I do this for her, so shhhh!). I hope this helps, but remember use some common sense & have a word in your doc’s ear, plus warm up before playing. I haven’t been playing that long, but the one thing I know is that it gets a lot easier, soon you will be graceful on the strings with just enough force to get the notes & your hands will be stronger, more subtle & with not a calluse in sight. So good luck & good health

Hey Raven!
Any fan of trey’s I’ll be happy to pass some hints.
I use Dunlop sharp point 1.35 picks with very heavy gage strings. (.13-.56) The strings don’t help with the speed picking, but the picks do. Also, I excercise my right hand by squeezing a rubber ball while sitting around. I learned this trick while I was a pitcher and noticed my picking became much more accurate and quick.
Now for the fun part. Try to learn, note for note various "difficult" solos AND rhythms. I tend to favor Death songs from Human and The Sound of Perserverence but Morbid Angel will do fine. Learn these in band situations so what you screw up, you can’t just stop.
Learning Jazz voicings help due to the funny picking.Hope this helps and "let the metal flow!"

What’s up everyone,
I’m a guitarist who, for months, has been trying to develop my right hand speed (I was a total legato player, my picking was at zero.) Getting into death metal guitar-styles (Morbid Angel’s Trey Azagthoth, for instance) and listening to lots of jazz has helped me realize how important right hand technique really is.
So, my question is if you people know any tricks or tips for developing this facet of guitar playing. I use Dunlop Tortex .88’s which I sharpen to a point. I use a metronome (responsibly) while I practice and know about the ‘Stylus Pick’ trick where you must ‘feel’ the tip of the pick while you’re playing.
Any advice?Thank you in advance,
~~Raven~~ -

Im assuming that hes expressed a love for the Taks…so disreguard any info about buying another brand(my personal love is the Taylors)…..but Tak makes alot of great guitars….I dont know what your price range is but if at all possible steer away from the tiawan made models(G series and the like….some can be fine instruments but you have to go play quite a few to find the one)……..look for a Japan made Tak it cost a bit more but it a quality hand made guitar that will last a life time…..dont waste time going to every store in town just flip open your yellow pages and call around to see who actually has what I told you about and get some prices and dont let them sell it to you at list price they have a lot of room to work with a guitar priced around 000 might go for 00-00…..the bigger the city you live in the better the deal….because they know you can go some where else……good luck

I also use a porta one. Most users record vocals dry & add effects after. I found I could enhance the finished vocals by running the vocal mic into a delay device while recording the vocals instead of recording them dry & adding it later. (Just a little delay) The only bad part is if you use too much delay, your stuck with it on tape unless you re-record your vocals. I have it down to a science so I don’t need a compressor. I record with the on-board EQ flat, so I can add highs and/or lows when mixing down.(I do this for all instruments too) The more you use your Porta 2 the better you’ll get. Watch your VU meters, they should only occaisonally go in the red. Good luck

Sorry, I don’t know enough to tell you which one’s are the best. Maybe try Takamine’s home page to look at what all they offer. Hope this helps at least a little.
: Deciding which guitar is "the best" is entirely subjective. Everybody has different fingers, hears slightly differently, and wants different things from a guitar. There is no "best." Sky is the limit on price. Once you pass a 00 threshold, I recommend getting a USA made guitar by Martin, Tacoma, Guild, etc., For a present, you might take your BF to a guitar shop and let him pick the guitar out that "speaks" to him. Otherwise you might buy him something that ends up in the closet forever until he trades it in for a guitar he wants.
You can get a Martin DM for 00 with case at those chains – Guitar Center, Mars Music, Sam Ash, etc.,

: when i use a acoustic my right fingers are too bad, and my sound is very weird but in the electric i dont have problems, is bad that?
No it’s not bad. The electrics have lighter strings with lighter tension. The acoustics have heavier strings with heavier tension. The "weird" sound may be due to poor intonation on the acoustic. Since electrics have adjustable height and intonation for each string, they have better intonation than an acoustic. I recommend taking your acoustic to a guitar shop to replace the strings with the lightest acoustic strings that dealer happens to sell and to readjust your intonation to those new strings.

I have worked with the Zoom GFX8. There is a seamless effect that will accomplish this.
From what I remember, you would have to program the "seamless" effect into the patch that you are going TO and not FROM.
You can get the pdf Zoom manual (pdf) online at:
http://www.samsontech.com/zoom/gfx8.html
Maybe it will give you some clues as to how the Boss unit works. I can’t find any Boss or Roland manuals online anywhere.

Hi Claudette!
Playing guitar is much like working out. Even aggressive practice should bring at most just simple fatigue.
Your symptoms are not typical for a beginning guitarist. It is most likely that your pain is due to something other than the guitar practice. Playing guitar might aggrevate the symptoms however.
If you are not fond of doctors and have not seen one in a decade and you are actually considering a visit, that tells me you are seriously concerned about your ailment and should find a doctor. You may consider one who specializes in or has experience with sports injuries and arthritis.
I wish you well.

: while you may feel that your amp is too loud to record on your pc, consider recording through a mic. you’ll avoid that direct to pc buzz from the ground loop problems and most mics will actually filter out some of those super high frequency ossilations of high gain amps…get a shure sm57 ..(99$) at most places, get it right up to the grill cloth. (add another mic at about 4 feet if you want a more live sound or just back the first mic away..(listen and judge) also get an adapter so you can plug the mic right into your pc.
this setup is THE pro way to record guitars!
try it and see!!! -

Hmm. Generally, the term hot means the pickup has very
high output, loudness. The output is measured in ohms,
Strat pickups(single coils) are about 6.5-7 ohms. Humbuckers range from 12-16.5 ohms.Much more powerful.
Remember, louder doesn’t always equal good sound. The Seymore SH-5 is about 14.5 ohms and has good tone, especially when cranked.

Hi, I bought an acoustic guitar for my daughter and I heard that , anybody can learn to play guitar, so I went on the internet and started to take lessons. I have been practicing every day for around 1 hour a day ( have calluses now) and last Saturday, I couldnt bend my left pointer finger. I woke up the other night in pain and my fingers on my left hand were kind of swollen. The pain in my left pointer finger is still there and wont go away. Now, is this a normal accourance in people who have just started to play guitar, or should i just go to the doctor get checked for athritis or something? If this is normal for new guitar players, I will just wait for the pain to go away, and wont bother the doctor. I havent been to a doctor for ten years, because I have had no reason to, I dont like doctors much. Anyway, I would apppreciate your input, as I dont know any other guitar players, I thought someone from a guitar web site may know something about pain and playing guitars . I sure do enjoy playing , I never thought I could do it and I want my finger to stop hurting so I can resume my practices. Thanks

Drinkin’ and drugs really do mess up bands. The band I’m in now is sober for gigs. We then get blitzed with our nights wages after the show. -

Seriously, great guitar. Versatile, but probably won’t do extreme metal tones. The tele is my favorite Fender and I own strats, Jags and teles. Even the Mexican ones (try to get one that says Fender on the headstock and Squier in small letters). They jsut make ’em right almost every time. -

Well put Rick. he’s definitely the least talented in a mediocre metal band. Oh I’m sorry, I forgot about their hip hop roots yo! represent.

Yes, a processor sounds more powerful, but in a band situation it usually blows. Especially with a small amp.

: -I think you need to put more springs in the tremolo.
.11’s have a lot more pull on the trem. if that doesn’t help, maybe your springs are shot and you need to replace them. -

i cannot resist dropping a few lines, don’t take this too seriously..
i’ve been playing gigs for 20 years now, ever since i was eight. by the time i turned eighteen i joined a band that got to do bigger venues than the ones i was familiar with and i couldn’t help noticing that a few pints or so made me feel more relaxed and confident as i sometimes got a bit nervous. it wasn’t as easy to notice that having had a few pints more than that had a disasterous effect in performance. as years have gone by and these days i do maybe 50-100 gigs a year in four different groups, i can say that i can play drunk. the cost is that during the 5 past years, i haven’t played a single gig sober. My point in all this blabber is that if you play as well drunk as you would do sober, you’re either a lousy player or your body doesn’t respond to alcohol any longer. in my opinion, that can be translated as being an alcoholic, which unfortunately seems to be the case with me. to be less philosophical, here’s another point of view. during these years i’ve played with many great musicians and the one thing common with guys i know that can do fabulous tricks and keep their act together whilst drunk is that they DRINK A LOT. I guess you could say they practice whilst drunk but that’s only because they’re drunk almost all the time! this is of course just my sight on the issue and i realize that not all people turn into vinos after a few drinks but i think it doesn’t hurt remembering that these things tend to go over the top with some people. OK, i’ll cut the moralistic crap, hope i didn’t step on anyones foot. have fun, i will anyway! 😉

sorry to post this on such a broad group; the tokai board was more or less dead. anyway, i’ve had my tokai goldstar sound strat for 8 years now, bought it second hand in august ’92 and been extremely satisfied with it. my problem is the usual; i’d like to know a bit more of the history of my faithful workhorse. i haven’t found a trace of a serial number on it, and that makes date tracking a bitch. the headstock says: "tokai" (in thick script, not fender-type spaghetti script), "goldstar sound" and "oldies but goldies". it has a one piece narrow fretted alder neck with a skunk stripe and a two piece body, supposedly alder too. no s/n whatsoever, neckplate is plain steel. it has kluson style machine heads and a classic style tremolo (gotoh, in my guess). pickguard is one layer white, a little thicker than in the original fender, i think, finish is classic yellowish two tone sunburst. anybody got an idea how to determine when and where it was manufactured? i already checked the tokai registry but it wasn’t of much help.

Hot generally refers to the power or loudness of a pickup compared to another one

Damn dude, you rule, I would have loved to have gone to see Randy play in ’81, but I wasn’t born yet. I didn’t realize that that was the live one. That triple-recorded thing is still good to know when listening to his studio stuff… it makes one feel less inadequate as a guitarist.

Get yourself a electronic tuner. There are a few types: Some have LED’s and some have needles that indicate whether you are in tune or not. You can get them anywhere from 5 up to 0. That will help you until you can get it by ear eventually. It’s good to have one around anyway.
As far as not getting clean notes: Everyone has this problem when they begin playing. Make sure you are fretting the note cleanly behind the fret. If you are too far away it wil tend to rattle. Also your bass may not be set up properly. Bring it to a shop and have someone set it up for you to make sure everything is OK. Have them show you what to look for so you can learn how to make these adjustments yourself someday.

There are two times that you’ll hear "hot" in reference to a pickup. The version you mean would be output, which is loudness. Noise doesn’t always come with high output, but it usually does. The other time you’d hear it would be in wiring, the hot wire is the lead wire that sends the signal.
Hope this helps,

What’s the principle behind diagonal patching on
a 4 input valve amp (two by two inputs)? Are
there limitations on when and with what it can
be done?-

Hello all ¡ I recently buy a marshall JCM2000, DSL401 combo , 40 watt with four EL84 output valve. I think this amp have a good classic valve tone (similar to A class british amps like VoXAC30) and I like the sound, but for me is a little for play blues or classic rock and not for modern styles (with multieffects processor added as example). Anyone have an oppinion about the sound of this amp ? Thanks in advance ¡

You were right, there were three springs currently in the guitar. As I bought the guitar used I do not have any more, but I will head down to a guitarstore tomorrow and see if I can get something there. I might take you up on that intonation-offer though, but I’m not sure yet 🙂
Thanks again

Being new to playing bass, I have a simple question. What equipment is avaiable/recommended for tuning ? I tried by going by "sound by ear", with a cd, but dont feel comfortable with that (or rather my judgement). Would like to visually see using some kind of electric-equipment, to start with.. hell, I don’t want to be running down the shops each time i think the srings are out of tune.
I have a Samick bass, been playing a couple months (at home) – read an earlier post here, that this is a common problem with Samick’s – is that true.
I play mostly A & E strings, frets 1-4 vibrate a lot, and I dont get a "clean" note (sounds terrible!)Many thanks for any suggestions – Anders

does it mean something’s really noisy? like you can barely touch the strings and it’ll sound off?

: When doing ANY adjustment on a Floyd, do yourself a favor and let a tech do the adjustment. It will save you alot of headache and frustration.
Not at all … providing you know the basics of setting up a bridge. The trick to dealing with Floyds is to treat it like a fixed bridge guitar. You first put a block of wood in the guitar to hold the bridge in it’s desired final rest position (depending on the guitar style and version of Floyd you use, the two easiest places to consider are under the back end of the bridge in the scooped out cavity on the surface of the guitar or in between the metal block under the bridge and the guitar body through the underside of the guitar). Assuming you are starting with a set up that is close to what you want, you use a block that just fits, and is not being held in place with much force when your bridge is floating, but does not allow much room for play either. Then slightly tighten the screws on the springs so that the block is held firmly in place (if you are going from lighter guage strings to heavier guage str
