I have recently purchased a 1996 american stratocaster .It has the n6 serial number. It is a medium to light non mettallic blue. Could this be daphne blue, or sonic blue in this year? Is there another blue used in 1996?

Did you ever play this guitar ? It sounds amazing, a hell of a lot better than a standard strat. You probably have never even played it but said you’ll say you did to not sound like an asshole. I was skeptic about one pickup too but when I played it, damn it sounded amazing and full. It’s the best strat I’ve even heard or played, it’s simple and just sounds amazing.

November 13, 2003 at 7:25 pm #99412AnonymousGuest
i got two of the tom delonge guitar one in orange and one in surf green. i also got two other guitars. and out of them all i like the tom delonge strat really well. There are some things i dont like but over all its a really good guitar. I love it, and tom is a bad mofo-lol- also i know he dont use a TD sig strat anymore. But it still sounds good. I like the strat for the sound and i also like how the neck is not as big as other guitars i have or have used. And the one knob thing isnt even that big of deal. Who cares. Juss get peddels dumbasses-lol- i mean blink 182 is the easiest stuff to play and its fun too, but when ur playing like korn fender strat aint the best but will work, but the best for hard rock like that would be Ibanez or Scheter, or how ever you spell it-lol- but thats juss my opinion. But Toms guitar is a good guitar and kicks ass and so does tom mark and travis.

agreed, the question is not why they discontinued it (poor sales is why, they were almost giving them away) but who ever marketed it in the first place, who would but it when you can get the same and more from a standard strat ??? oh I forgot all the kiddies who want to look like TD but will never sound like him no matter what is in their hands. : its a piece of shit with one knob

November 2, 2003 at 5:44 am #113587AnonymousGuest
Back when I was playing live, most of my guitars only had one knob, or just a kill switch. I never played with my tone or volume (always on, up full), and I never switched pickups. Having all the extra wiring and pots can degrade the tone from the pickup you do use, so I can understand the concept. I did it myself 20 years ago. :o) Anyway, Tom isn’t using the Strat anymore, and Fender isn’t one to continue a signature model that the artist doesn’t use. Poor sales, a bad economy, and a change in marketing to the US 1 Strats also prompted the dropping of the model. I looked into the guitar myself, not for the artist, but for what it was: a Strat with a single humbucker (which would’ve gotten changed to a Duncan Distortion or PAF Pro), and a relatively clean signal path. Simple, does what I need it to do, and still has the Strat "spank" for when I need it.

It sounds like Lincoln Brewster plays a Strat, but does anyone know what other equipment he uses? Like what amps, effects, etc.

October 31, 2003 at 8:56 pm #47555AnonymousGuest
I started out with $10. Now, I am making thousands. I found this on a bulletin board and decided to try it. A little while back, I was browsing through newsgroups, just like you are now, and came across an article similar to this that said you could make thousands of dollars within weeks with only an initial investment of $10.00! So I thought, "Yeah right, this must be a scam", but like most of us, I was curious, so I kept reading. Anyway, it said that you send $10.00 to one of the account mentioned below in article and post the article in at least 200 newsgroups. (There are thousands) No catch, that was it. So after thinking it over, and talking to a few people first, I thought about trying it. I figured: "what have I got to lose except $10.00 right?" Then I invested the measly $10.00. Well GUESS WHAT!?… within 7 days, I started getting money in my account! I was shocked! I figured it would end soon, but the money just kept coming in. In my first week, I made about $20.00. By the end of the second week I had made a total of over $1,000.00! In the third week I had over $6,000.00 and it’s still growing. This is now my fourth week and I have made a total of just over $15,000.00 and it’s still coming in rapidly. It’s certainly worth $10.00, I have spent more than that on the lottery!! Let me tell you how this works and most importantly, WHY it works… Also, make sure you print a copy of this article NOW, so you can get the information off of it as you need it. I promise you that if you follow the directions exactly, that you will start making more money than you thought possible by doing something so easy! Suggestion: Read this entire message carefully! (print it out or download it.) Follow the simple directions and watch the money come in! It’s easy. It’s legal. And your investment is only $10.00 IMPORTANT: This is not a rip-off; it is not indecent; it is not illegal; and it is 99% no risk – it really works! If all of the following instructions are adhered to, you will receive extraordinary dividends. PLEASE NOTE: Follow these directions EXACTLY, and $20,000.00 or more can be yours in 20 to 60 days Here are the 4 easy steps to success: STEP 1: Send an email to [email protected] stating "INTERESTED – SEND ME YOUR A/C NO." in subject line. You receive our e-gold, moneybookers or StormPay a/c Nos through email within next 12 hrs. Account Nos have’nt been mentioned here due to security reason. And, this is to provide you all a cheat proof service. STEP 2: Now transfer $10 to one of above referred accounts and inform your transanction made to email : [email protected] stating (1) Your Name (2) Your e-gold / StormPay / moneybookers account No. (3) 4 Names and IDs stated below in this article. (4) e-gold / StormPay / moneybookers transaction No. Do mention "PLEASE SEND MY ID" in subject line. Warren – ID # JBP1216 #4) Surender Kalra – ID # JBP1243 STEP 3: Now retrieve an email within next 12 hrs. that contains your ID and an attached .doc file. STEP 4: The above referred attached .doc file contains the same article but amended with your Name and ID at # 4 position. Now, post your amended article to at least 200 newsgroups. (I think there are close to 24,000 groups) All you need is 200, but remember, the more you post, the more money you make! You won’t get very much unless you post like crazy. It is so simple that you can post article following the instructions even if you are an internet-beginner. PLEASE REMEMBER that this program is CHEAT-PROOF. No one may make changes by adding his/her name and gets benefited. One who pay $10.00 and make efforts by posting articles starts making thousands of dollars only. This is the way that program checks honesty and integrity of the participants before their joining. HOW IT WORKS? So, after receipt of $10.00 from you, four members will be reimbursed with two dollars each in their respective e-gold, moneybookers or StormPay a/c. ($2.00 for each of the first four people listed above and to whom you have also mentioned in your email) Now, the name #1 position is taken off the list that you see above, the other names is moved up (4 becomes 3, 3 becomes 2 and 2 becomes 1) and added YOUR Name and ID at # 4 position on the list. Your name will move up the list geometrically so that when your name reaches the #1 position you will be receiving thousands of dollars!!! What an opportunity for only $10.00 Send it now, start your business right now! After posting 200 articles to newsgroups, say you receive only 5% response that is 10 persons (a very low example). So then you make $20.00 with your name at #4 position. Now, each of the 10 persons, make the MINIMUM 200 postings with your name at#3 position and only 10 persons respond to each of the original 10, that is another $200.00! for you. Now, those 10 persons turn around and post the MINIMUM 200 with your name at #2 position and only receive 5% replies each, you will make an additional $2,000.00! Let’s take a breath…. now, each of those 10 persons post a MINIMUM 200 with your name at #1 position and they only receive 5% replies that is 10 replies each, that just bring $20,000.00!!! With an original investment of only $10.00! AMAZING! When your name is no longer on the list, you just take the latest posting in the newsgroups, and send out another $10.00 to reserve your position at #4. And start posting again. The thing to remember is: do you realize that thousands of people all over the world are joining the internet and reading these articles everyday?, JUST LIKE YOU are now!! So, can you afford $10.00 and see if it really works?? I think so… People have said, "what if the plan is played out and no one refers me ? So what! What are the chances of that happening when there are tons of new users and new people who are joining the internet and newsgroups everyday and are willing to give it a try and to make a residual income? : I started out with $10. : Suggestion: Read this entire message carefully! (print it out or download it.) Follow the simple directions and watch the money come in! : It’s easy. It’s legal. And your investment is only $10.00 : IMPORTANT: This is not a rip-off; it is not indecent; it is not illegal; and it is 99% no risk – it really works! : If all of the following instructions are adhered to, you will receive extraordinary dividends. : PLEASE NOTE: Follow these directions EXACTLY, and $20,000.00 or more can be yours in 20 to 60 days : Here are the 4 easy steps to success: : STEP 1: : Send an email to [email protected] stating "INTERESTED – SEND ME YOUR A/C NO." in subject line. You receive our e-gold, moneybookers or StormPay a/c Nos through email within next 12 hrs. Account Nos have’nt been mentioned here due to security reason. And, this is to provide you all a cheat proof service. : STEP 2: : Now transfer $10 to one of above referred accounts and inform your transanction made to email : [email protected] stating (1) Your Name (2) Your e-gold / StormPay / moneybookers account No. (3) 4 Names and IDs stated below in this article. (4) e-gold / StormPay / moneybookers transaction No. Do mention "PLEASE SEND MY ID" in subject line. : Mention these 4 names and IDs in your email. : : #1) M.A. Freeman – ID # JBP1106 : #2) John Visser – ID # JBP1110 : #3) C. Is it correct to measure the quality of a tube preamp by the quantity of the tubes it possess? I mean, a tube preamp will in every case, be better than other that contains less tubes?

I suggest you check out ebay’s auction to see if there are some gears like yours for sale, so you can have an idea of the current price they have on the market. You can also check on Harmony Central’s gear classifieds. Also be aware of the weight of your units because as it affects the total price when shipping.

The inventor of the Electric Guitar is Mr. Terauchi Takeshi. His father was an electrician and he was tinkering with the radio set to connect it with the guitar. I do not know the exact date but it was invented in Japan. I just met this guy last week. He was 64 and still playing concerts. A really kind and nice guy who thinks of others before himself. I did not read the follow ups so I do not know if you already knew. Thanks

Can anyone advise whether it’s worth spending say £300 on improving a Jap strat, or should I just put the money towards buying a more expensive USA strat ? Is the quality of the Jap strat fretboard/body good enough to benefit from new hardware/pickups ?
-
November 2, 2003 at 5:48 am #97888AnonymousGuest
Japanese made Strats were all the reissue models (50’s, 60’s, etc), and are actually very nice. The parts are all made in the US, and shipped to Japan for assembly. Rather, WERE shipped, they don’t do the Japanese models anymore. Yes, the quality is good enough to benefit from new pickups, but if it’s a reissue, then you probably won’t need to.

Hi, you seem to know a lot about Jap Strats. I’ve got one, with a Floyd Rose-like tremolo bridge but with the inscription FENDER on it. Also on the head there locking-screws to lock the strings. Do you know this model and if so, is it possible to replace the bridge with a different one, because this one is not 100%. (the series nr is E694872) Thanks
-
November 4, 2003 at 6:02 pm #98211AnonymousGuest
You’ve probably got either an HRR Strat or a Floyd Rose Classic japanese model. YOu can swap the bridge out for any Floyd Rose style…even for an Ibanez if you want. It may require a change of the bridge posts, so make sure whichever model you get comes with them.

November 2, 2003 at 5:53 am #113615AnonymousGuest
Park amps were an off-shoot of Marshall, back in the 80’s. Discontinued with the introduction of the MG series of practice amps. Anyway, the pre-gain is considered your distortion gain. Turn it up, and turn the post gain down. For a "classic" overdrive tone, turn the pre gain down, and turn the post gain up. Post gain is basically a master volume. Play with them, you’ll see what I mean.

Your subject is a daily generator of many different opinions and extensive discussion. But the essence is well exposed by Eddie’s follow up. In addition, I could say that in my experience, to have both worlds is the best, with the basic sound of a good tube amp and a high quality processor that doesn’t color your note. What’s important is to have good gear. In both worlds there are great gear and crap. If you choose good gear you can mix it and take advantage of both worlds. ___________ : Hey, i’m a student doing my dissertation on guitars (inc. amps, effects, etc) and i want to have a chapter on which is best – analogue or digital. if you have any comments or know of ny links, it’d be a massive help. everything i seem to come up with is about digital cameras and the like. thanks, ant

What aspect are you asking about?? Effects, recording?? If it’s recording,I’d say THEY’RE BOTH GOOD,for different reasons. Analog is a very rich, powerful sound and always has more gain. The down side is analog is noisey(hiss),and difficult to edit. Also, when you bounce tracks down to another you’ll lose a GENERATION.This means the sound gets muddy the more you bounce it down. Digital is a much cleaner sound that doesn’t have a lot of hiss. You can bounce tracks all day long without "Losing a Generation" or at least very little. With the right program, you can mix,cut and paste, add effects, edit, save, undo, redo your DATA easily and quickly. The possibilities are almost endless. The down side to digital is it’s lack of warmth and balls(power).Digital tracks are usually thin, bright and don’t have the volume of analog signals.I use a tube preamp and other gadgets to "beef up" the tone and make it louder. This is the secret of "old school" bands. They all had specific engineers and equipment that they used to get a disired tone. My last group would record analog and mix digital. We got a MONSTER sound, but it was more expensive and time consuming. Analog is still good, but I love the flexibility of digital recording. Hope this helps

Hi, I had a problem last night with my VS100RH amp head and cab cutting out after channel switching. The sound was there very faintly for a moment and then it kicked in. Now I have had problems with the foot switches crapping out on me before and having to get a replacement. Having a gig tonight I am fairly concerned about the problem. Is anyone familiar with this type of problem? Does it sound like a case of a faulty footswitch? Thanks.

Is anyone familiar with this type of problem? Does it sound like a case of a faulty footswitch? Thanks. Hi, back, Its been a good many years since I’ve played loud and live, but we used to have a problem whose symptoms are similar to yours. It was called "cold solder". When the amp warmed up, especially outside under a hot sun, solder in the tubes would melt just enough to leave a poor or open connection. After a while it would cool down, the solder would harden, the circuit would re-connect again, and it would be fine until the next heat overload. If this is your problem, changing tubes may help. This amp is pretty shit when it comes to traveling, I used to take it around in my car quite alot and everytime I took it out and used it.. I would haveto prod around for a hour trying to get the tone that I lost.. then in the end It just packed out and I had to get it resoldered 3 times. Guys at the shop say these models are crud when it comes to traveling, now I haveto like shove it in a box full of styrene n bubble wrap and it hasnt packed out since

I had exactly the same problem with my Marshall VS100 combo. The problem eventually got worse to the point where it would just start cutting out for a second or so every so often. Unfortunatley i don’t know what the problem was as i traded it in problems and all for a different amp. I’ll speak to the people i traded it into and see how they fixed the problem Cheers Chris

I recently got an electric guitar (yamaha) for a gift and I have never played before and I was really just wondering about the sounds an electric will produce, I would like to be able to play songs from my favorite bands (new found glory, starting line, matchbox20, nickelback, etc etc ), will an electric let me do that? or does it only work with a bass?

when it comes to playing songs on a guitar, It really dosent matter what type you have. Most song will tell you beside it, if its a bass or what ever. IF you are first starting out, it would prob be best to just get used to your guitar and the feel for playing before you jump into learning songs. I say this because I had to learn that. I didn’t take the time to learn what I needed to learn there for understanding songs, chords, and tabs was very hard. I got very frustrated and angry. =) Good luck. Feel free to send me an E mail or Im me if you have aol to talk. I am a beginner myself.

yeah, electric will let you do that kind of stuff, but you’ve got to have the right equipment. The thing that you need to look on your amplifier (the big box you plug your guitar into) is if it has a switch that says "overdrive" or "distortion" thats the sound i think that your looking for…if not it wouldnt be a bad idea for you to purchase an overdrive or distortion pedal…which is a small box that makes your guitar sound cool…you’d have to see it. uhm…thats about all email me if you want [email protected]

does anyone know around how much a new tremonti is? i know nothing about guitars but was thinking about buying one for my husband. he is a lead guitarist and was looking at this kind. also, how good of a guitar is it? thanks.
-
November 2, 2003 at 6:01 am #97906AnonymousGuest
The Mark Tremonti model goes for about $2700 at a good retailer, and is a very nice guitar. The Tremonti SE is made for PRS in Korea, has different pickups, and goes for about $550. Nice guitar, has the PRS feel, but is a totally different construction, so the sound will be different. Really depends on what model you’re looking at…….if it’s the US model, it’s a very good guitar, go for it.

Please help! I’m in the market to buy a really good tube amp but I am getting conflicting reports on what is the best tube amp money can buy, especially for Metal. I thought Solodano, or Mesa Boogie would be the choice but I’m hearing that the Peavey 5150 is great. Also, does anybody know what the main differences between the 5150 and the 5150 II are? Any info would be appriciated. I have the best SS amp available in my opinion, the Line6 Vetta. Now I’d like to buy the best Tube amp out there.
-

Check out this web-site for amp reviews, pros and cons, etc. I can’t tell you what the differenceis betwen a 5150 and a 5150 II, but I had a 5150. Best on board distortion you’ll ever find in an amp, but also the noisiest amp I’ve ever used. Go to the site, and follow the guitar amp review section to whatever amp you need to check out. They’re listed by manufacturer and model. A great site for getting guitar tabs as well. http://www.harmony-central.com/Guitar/ PG

I had the extreme pleasure of attending 2 of Dr. Justin Miller’s appearances on the Holland America line this past April on a Hawaiian cruise. He was a psychiatrist in NY and gave it up for his first love which is the classical guitar. He is an excellent guitarist plus being a most entertaining racontuer. He has written a book that deals with the circumstances under which certain songs were composed. I cannot remember the name of it, but would buy it in a second if I could find it. Would you have any info on this? I would surely appreciate any help you can give me in finding it. Alma Hall

Did you contact the cruise line? I bought a CD and the website has gone through a few name changes and appears to be "no-more." Maybe the marriage &/or child support pn the high seas?

I recently have acquired a PedalPad MPS-1(w/ GeorgeL’s patch cables) that has multiple setup options for mono, stero, mult signal chains, effects loop and conditioned pwr for 10 effects. I have several Roger Mayer effects(Octavia & Voodoo Vibe) an HOA Rumble Mod & Rust Driver, A FD-2(I am going back an forth btwn this and the Rumble Mod), Bad Horsie Wah, MXR Phase 90 and a couple other various effects that I really don’t use much, nor plan to. Axes=LP Custom, Custom Strat(not Fender) and FireBird. I currently have a Fender Blues Jr that I love(I don’t play large venues, local stuff-clubs etc.) Ultimately, I want to acquire a 2nd Blues Jr and run them in Stereo. I have heard this type setup at blues clubs in BOS and have been very impressed. I have yet to set the entire rig up and was hoping to get some feedback to potentially help me avoid some head/heart aches in the setup process and make the most of my gear! Any suggestions/comments would be gr8ly appreciated!!! Thanks in advance! Pablo

Having played Violoncello as a kid (boring stuff), I am really into learning to play guitar as a grown-up. Being indecisive between a Epiphone Les Paul model and a Fender Mexico (both seem good value for money to me), I need help: which guitar is easier to play, which one gives more sound opportunities. My favourite style playing would be the kind of slide Lowell George and Duane Allmann played. The second tip I need is about the way of learning: what would be a sound way to learn basics but to be able to play reasonable stuff after a while (I don’t refer to shortcuts, learning to do something good takes its time). Thank You for Your help. Michael

Michael : ‘ : ‘ : : The Berklee guitar method is good for adults My humble suggestion is to not fork out on a new guitar, necessarily. Second hand is often the way to go. Got a very sound Samick Les Paul copy(black) for my son for $200 recently. Beautiful action, neck rosewood…needed judicious cleaning with lemon oil. But, be careful, there’s a lot of cheap quality stuff floating around that looks OK cosmetically, alongside some very good quality cheap stuff as well. Samick are the biggest guitar maker in the world and make some very good stuff under their own name, as well as OEM’ing for some very famous and venerable names. The diff is that you won’t pay a premium for the Samick name. Bought a new solid wood Tele copy Samick, sunburst for $350 Aus. Got the rather ordinary pickups canged to Dimarzio twang kings, and had a Gotoh bridge fitted with through-the-body stringing. I defy any so-called expert with their eyes shut to tell me it isn’t an A-grade Fender Tele. What I’m trying to say is to try and get past BRAND…it’s the sound that counts.

As a traditionalist I’d choose a Stratocaster model which differs soundwise obviously from an LP. At the end of the day I’d prefer the singing sound of an LP, which the Epiphone model produces almost as good as the Gibson original. Good choice?
-
October 27, 2003 at 10:26 pm #118974AnonymousGuest
Both are good choices because they are the most common guitars out there so they will sound like alot of the music you know, best to get one of each down the road and don’t forget a telecaster too 🙂 !!! Epis are ok, you usually have to try a few to get a good one and then change out the pups, but still cheaper than a gibson, just make sure you really check it out before buying. : As a traditionalist I’d choose a Stratocaster model which differs soundwise obviously from an LP. How do I pick a good Epi from a not so good one, apart from the picks? Do colours and finish have any effect on the performance? And then, what is a reasonable way to learn to play that damn thing?
-
October 28, 2003 at 5:46 pm #122694AnonymousGuest
To pick a ‘good’ one first check all the ‘mechanical/cosmetic’ aspects for flaws, there are many sites with good info, check harmony central reviews of the models you plan to buy as many flaws will be pointed out there and give you an idea of the most common ones (for that model) to look, the second part ‘feel/tone’ is hard to describe, playing 2 guitars of the same model you will feel/hear differnces, although alot will be due to the fact that they will have slightly differnt setups, you can feel a differnces in the vibration of the body/neck, and fretboard. If you are new alot of these things won’t make a differnce so just look for a well constructed guitar (no visible flaws, good neck, nut, tuners, etc) or buy a used one and when you get better then start looking for a better instrument. Check out harmonycentral.com reviews and good luck. : How do I pick a good Epi from a not so good one, apart from the picks? I’ve moved to Indiana from PA, recently because of a new engineering job. I had to quit my band ("Switch" – see switchrocks.net website)and I’m really wanting to play again. Would you be interested? Or is the distance too much? Give me a call at 765-689-9149. Thanks, Rick Smith

Check on eBay. You can do a search on that brand, make and model. Then look at ended sales. That will give you an idea what it’s going for if common enough. Also check the reviews at this web-site as usually everyone says what they paid used or new. http://www.harmony-central.com/Guitar/ PG

Would raiseing the bridge of a guitar or lowering it make a big difference if so which one would be good for playing what type of music.
-
October 25, 2003 at 7:20 pm #96925AnonymousGuest
Raise it as high as possible for rock/metal, lower for country, in the middle for pop : Would raiseing the bridge of a guitar or lowering it make a big difference if so which one would be good for playing what type of music.
-
November 7, 2003 at 5:04 am #98564AnonymousGuest
The higher(most problematic) or lower you put the bridge it from where it was set at the guitar shop may result in it going out of tune as you climb the neck. A good guitar tech can reset it at whatever height and string guage you wish so it will stay in tune all the way up. When you raise(mostly) or lower the bridge you are actually making the strings longer or shorter and therefore changing the harmonic location at the twelth fret. The exact distance between the nut and the twelth and the twelth and the bridge needs to be identical or you lose your tuning, ie, the harmonic location. Like I said, a good guitar tech can set you up nicely.

: I have a Les Paul Standard Electric Guitar and I want to install a wammy bar on it. Is it possible, and is there an easy way to do it??? Well, I don’t know if I would install a wammy on a Les Paul simply for estetic reasons. I have seen LPs with Floyd Rose and Khaler (do they still make those?) but it involves routing the guitar, which I would not do. I have found that Arch Top solid bodies don’t respond as well to Wammys as opposed to a flat-top solid like a strat. I think if it worked well, Gibson would have done it by now. I would advise against it. And definetly stay away from the BOWEN Handel if you ever want you guitar to stay in tune again. Good Luck James

Cheap and somewhat effective is an item called a Bowen Handle. It’s a replacement bridge for Gibson Les Paul or L6S that is a rocker type bridge with a whammy bar. You’ll need to tune often between every couple songs if your playing live, and you can’t get those NightRanger and EVH dive bombs, but it only costs about $20. No luthier experience needed. Then save up and buy a guitar with a Floyd in a couple years with locking nuts etc.

they do make bigsby tail pices for a les paul but i realy dont know how to install it. it would be somethig to look into thoe.

It is possible…if you’re an experienced luthier. If not then you will be paying an experienced luthier good money…and he will tell you it’s not worth it. By the time you add up the cost for parts and labor you could just buy a guitar with a tremolo factory installed. Plus if you’re using a Gibson/Epiphone Les Paul the neck is angled when it is joined to the body, that means your bridge has to sit higher than on a standard strat type guitar…this makes it a little more difficult. If you like the Paul sound and look then budget some money for something constructed from the same woods (Schecter), with the trem that you want, and you’ll get a similar sound.

Just use some heavy sandpaper on a block and sand down the frets until no more buzz, then ‘clean’ em up with some fine sandpaper : : Hey I just bought an Ovation Celebrity. It buzzes on the low E string on the first 4 or 5 frets. Any suggestions?

DO NOT DO THAT – if your frets need dressing, it’s a luthiers job – or it may be a simple truss rod adjustment, bridge height, string gauge – in fact it could be one of many things, but fret dressing is NOT to be taken on by an amateur. : Just use some heavy sandpaper on a block and sand down the frets until no more buzz, then ‘clean’ em up with some fine sandpaper : : : : Hey I just bought an Ovation Celebrity. I have a Yamaki AY376S guitar. There is such little information on these guitars (sad) and would like to know how old my Yamaki is. I play a lot of Bluegrass and I can tell you that my Yamaki stands up to and in a lot of cases puts some Martins to utter shame. It has a cedar top, two piece rosewood back and sides (not laminate either) abalone inlay around the sound hole and entire body. The neck is mahogany and from what I can tell, it is not a three piece neck either. There is an awesome hand-cut Indian design strip down the back. I can’t find any information on this model. Can anyone help?

First, you should invest in a good pick ups for your guitar. (Zack Wylde EMG’s Active 81 & 85 or Evolution pickups) i would then highly recommend the Boss MT-2 Metal Zone. Most Pro’s are leaving their digital effects processors (like the pods) and returning to analog pedals and making a pedal board. I highly recommend Boss Pedals they are the BEST! Hope this helps… : I need advice about distortion pedal which will be able to givme sound colors from Malmsteen to Slayer

Hi, I’m looking to buy my daughter an electric guitar. She’s fairly new at this, so I don’t want to spend a fortune on an American made Fender or Gibson. Our local music store carries some Lado models which are quite nice looking, and are also decently priced. The decent price is due to being manufactured in Korea, unlike an authentic Lado, which is Canadian made. Can anybody tell me anything about these guitars, in particular what the main differences are between the two different types of Lado? Thanks, Stefan

Hi I saw this page after a Google search and thought maybe someone here could help me. I own a Supro guitar that bears the serial number T76565 on a small metal plate nailed to the rear of the headstock with small brass nails, I read on one site that this places it at about 1962 for a manufacturing date. It is made of Res-o-glass, Pink on the front and white on the back. A double cutaway, though neither cutaway is very deep. It has a "gumby" type of headstock but the Supro logo and lightening bolt appear on the black pickguard not the headstock. It has a wooden/metal bridge(the part that bears the strings is wooden)one chrome pick up at the bridge one tone and one volume knob and the strings are held in a kind of flexable metal apparatus (tremolo?)before it goes across the bridge. There are three round chrome covers on the rear that cover screws. I was wondering what model itwas and waht it was worth. I don’t know if I would ever sell it as it is pretty cool but it would be nice to know more about it. Thanks for your time Rob

I am in a harcore punk band, something like AFI (the closes thing i can relate it to) and i am used to playing acoustic music, and more pop-rock based music. I have a crate GLX 212 and a Peavy 212. I have written enough material for my band to go into a studio, but i just cant seem to get the right distortion for the type of music i now play. I also have a marshal JH-1 distortion pedal and a Zoom 505 digital FX pedal. Can anyone help me get some AFI-like tone out of any combination of these pedals and amps? please help!

A lot of times what’s helping drive that kind of sound is a distortion AND a Compression/Sustainer, also high end humbucker pick ups, because they have a great clean distorted sound. A great guitar and set up helps as well for that style of clean distortion. Although punk is usually much dirtier. Check out Guitar Player on-line and see if you can find any article/interviews with the band. They always ask them about their gear, and they’ll give a box by box setup as well as the pick ups etc.

hi anyone of you have a schamatic for a good reverb pedal? like the boss digital reverb/delay or the digitech’s one.
-
October 22, 2003 at 9:49 pm #96784AnonymousGuest
I have a boss digital delay pedal, its the DD-5, its really good, it has 11 different types(tempo) of delay, with reverse time thats not confusing, the only thing about it is you really have to fine tune it to get a killer sound, for example, i was playing the cover for wish you were here by incubus and the pedal held the exact note and tone for the song, but again it took awhile to get the correct output, thats how wide this pedal is, it also supports a panning out…Right now there’s a better model the DD-6 but that will run you some $150 or more, my advice is to get a decent pedal, something like this one, but try and don’t go TOO CHEAP cuz you won’t get a pedal with wide range, and thats what really matters most… oh please ignore those other post, a guy on here really has no life….. For what guitar? What model bridge? They’re all slightly different. Your best bet is to hit up local guitar repair shops, and try every single one of the bars they have hanging around. I know the shop I work for has boxes of them, all different sizes and types. I have some Kahler ones, but again, I couldn’t send you one without knowing at least the model of the bridge, or the guitar it was on.

I found some new info. the patent # is 4457201 D6 There are two threaded holes, a larger on the bottom ( near high E) and a smaller one in the middle. they are aligned vertically. Does that help at all? It is on a Hondo Flying V guitar. It is a gold toned, floyd rose locking bridge. Thanks

October 22, 2003 at 6:42 am #113344AnonymousGuest
Good luck………..I’d still say just try every shop you can find that has a stock of bars. Hondo was famous for using non-standard parts, and factory seconds, so you may be out of luck. If you can’t find something, you MAYBE can buy a screw threading kit and re-tap the threads slightly to fit something you can find that’s close. Otherwise, it’d be cheaper to buy a new trem for it.

What Guitar Does Tom Delonge use now. In a video of blink 182 playing live in Japan this month or the las month, tom was using a brown (with a white strip) kind of Gibson 335 shape. It sounded pretty alright. So does anyone know what make it is.

It’s his new signature model. He stopped his contract at fender and now he has a contract with gibson. I think it’s just a model that already exists, but he just putted the white line on it… I don’t like this one, i liked his stratocaster better, I LOVED HIS STRATOCASTER

i don’t know but I play in a hardcore band and i bought the delong strat and it was the smartest thing i ever did. i ripped out the duncan invaders in it and threw in some EMG 81’s. I run it threw a Morley (Bad Horsie 2)wah, Metal Zone(distortion/Boss), Flanger(Boss), and a chorus(Danelectro/18v). And this guitar will kill on any amp.

The new Tom DeLonge Signature Gibson is a classic semi-hollowbody design. The idea was taken from the Gibson ES 333. The tenative name for this guitar is the TD 333. This guitar has one Gibson ‘Dirty Fingers’ exposed-coil humbucker and one volume control and standard jack. This guitar comes in brown with cream stripes. Here is the link to it from the Gibson Guitars web site: http://www.gibson.com/products/gibson/classic/tomdelonge.html If you have any questions please e-mail me at: [email protected] Chris

I have a few guitars I wondered what the going price is on them. 1. Ibanez Artist 1984 model I think it is antique violin finish with gold hardware, it is in great shape. 2. Fender strat 1986 usa made with lace pickups and locking machinehead. It’s kinda of a blueish purple colour and is like new in condiditon. Rosewood fret board too. Thanks for any help. to all who e-mail me. Andrew
-
October 21, 2003 at 5:20 pm #96622AnonymousGuest
No idea on price, it’ll all be dependent on the condition and market. The Lace pickups in your ’86 aren’t original, as those didn’t come out until the early 90’s in Strats. They had an earlier version, for a year or two, that used three pushbuttons rather than a 5-way switch. The pickus were "scalloped" near the mounting screws, rather than flat all the way across, and weren’t Lace pickups. Those were used as late as ’87.

Basically, you drill a hole, then reverse-thread the new hole. Drill a screw into it, and as you tighten the new screw, the old piece of metal backs out. Any hardware store will have the kit.

Hannes The current Sambora strat doesnt use a PCB assembly – it uses an inductor to give the 12db boost. The older model sambora strat DID use a PCB, and it was a modified Clapton circuit. I have a good schematic of the Clapton PCB and would be happy to share it with you and give instructions on have to wire your strat like a older Sambora. email me for more info. Ryan

Hey, I have been told that since Distortion Pedals run on Clean mode, that the cleaner the clean setting is, the better the distortion is. And since Fender has a cleaner clean setting, should I buy a Fender amp and a pedal, or a Marshall and a pedal? Or is this even true? And if it is, would I be able to live with having to plug my guitar into a Fender amp? lol 😛 Thanks in advance.

I thought about getting him that Esteban guitar package and I wanted some feedback to see if this was a good idea.It seems like an O.K. guitar for a beginner, but I’ve never seen one and I don’t want to get him anything too cheesy! Please guid me!

I think it is a great idea. In fact, I just purchased this for my boyfriend, who has talked about wanting to learn to play. My Mother saw it on HSN and told me about the good price. It’s cheap, so if he doesn’t like it, atleast I didn’t waste a lot of money! And if he does enjoy playing, a better quality, more expensive guitar can be purchased as a nice gift in the future!

from what i have seen and heard of this guitar….it is the best of its kind for the money. I dont think you can get something better for a beginner without paying more. Ive been in the music industry and a musician, student, and now a sound pro.

It’s like trying to buy someone the perfect pet. He’ll keep it just because you bought it and doesn’t want to make you feel bad but if he doesn’t really like it or his taste changes then it will be a burden because he can never get rid of it. My recommendation is to make sure you really know what he wants and will play for a long time.

Hey everyone. I’ve been playing guitar now for about a year, I do a regular 1 hr per day practise routine and spend 2-3 hrs practising with my band twice a week. The thing that is bothering me os that even though my fingers have toughened up and it dosen’t relly hurt to play anymore, sometimes after playing for a while my finger tips start to peel off. This happens frequently. I play .10 guage on my electric and .13 on the accoutic. The guage isn’t a problem for bending and finger strength etc. I used to use Surgical Spirits daily to help, but have since stopped, with no difference to the condition of my fingers. Does anyone else get this or could help? Any info would be most appriciated.

I have been trying to find out about a Korean made Squire strat serial number M+7digits. I want to buy it to modify, take the paint off etc. I can’t find any specs or year it was made, but I don’t want a plywood body. They may have been in a "Strat Pack" type thing sold in Australia. If it’s older (early 90’s) I might give it a go. Thanks
-
October 21, 2003 at 5:34 pm #96633AnonymousGuest
Squiers were never made of plywood, but the wood may be of "questionable" quality. Go ahead and strip it, but be prepared to repaint if you see knotholes, bad grain, or just crappy looking wood. For the record, only REALLY cheap knockoffs like Hondo and other "korean" brands were made of plywood. You should also note that that trend started to die out around ’90, so looking older isn’t the way to go. Alot of your 80’s off-brand guitars were ply, in the 90’s most of those companies died out, and the lower end models went to solid wood.

Hi, I am looking to purchase my next guitar after owning a Epiphone Explorer Gothic..I didn’t like it very much, I didn’t find it was versatile enough. I play a lot of Tool, and this will be my fourth guitar. I have a little less than usual to spend. I am in the UK and have been shopping around. [Online, of course.] I am torn between the Cort M600 and the Ibanez SZ520QM. Have any of you played these, and what can you recommend/comment on them?

I bought the same guitar in 1972 for $30. that’s right Thirty bucks. Used but in almost new condition from a local music shop in Amarillo, Tx. I played it for about 6 years or so – hated it. Could not keep strings on the thing. It had the worst excuse for a bridge I’ve ever seen. Color was cherry red. Around 1978 or 79 I traded it at a Dallas music shop for a Gibson ES335. They gave me $200. for it. Only good thing about that guitar was that I made $170. on it in trade. Never looked back. That Ovation was quite possible the 2nd worst guitar I ever owned….right behind the Woolworth Strat copy I bought for $25. in 1965. Ovation called those electrics the "storm" series. Info is available on their site. I think that one was the Tornado. A real POS. Just one opinion.

Hey I heard on the radio a few years ago a guy covering "spoonful" (by Cream, Willie Dixon, et al) – and it was fucking brilliant. Just him with a slide guitar doing the whole thing without any percussion. I remember the DJ saying that only 1000 copies were available (and he was boasting because he had one). Any idea who that was? I think it was a folk/country slide guitarist. Thanks.

I know this is probably difficult to answer, but my question is…Are Washburn guitars (in general) very good guitars. I am purchasing one off of ebay. (D10CEQ) Thanks, Gordon

Gordon, I have a Washburn D48 and I like it just fine. I am only a beginner but it has been a good sounding guitar and the strings don’t get out of tune too soon. Good Luck Dave

I dont know if this is too late but I was browsing the wasburn site and It says this for the D10 (just D10 not you one) " The World’s Best Selling Acoustic Guitar earned the distinction with superior craftsmanship, tone and value. Voted Number 1 by Acoustic Guitar magazine as the best guitar under $500. Now with a solid spruce top. Also available in left handed version." So if that’s true then they probably do make good guitars 🙂 : I know this is probably difficult to answer, but my question is…Are Washburn guitars (in general) very good guitars. : I am purchasing one off of ebay. : What make of guitar dose Jack Black Play on the Tenacious D CD? HE PLAYS A MARTIN ACCOUSTIC. His partner, Kyle Gass plays an accoustic as well (I’m not sure what type) and does most of the accoustic parts that you hear on the album. A number of studio muscians were used for the electric parts and other instruments to include Dave Grohl (Nirvana, Foo Fighters) on drums.
