: I cannot say the older or even Epiphone Les Pauls up until recent years have lost any value either, I mean try buying a first run or second run Epiphone and you might as well buy a older Les Paul. : no way the gibsons last longeer they would last for like 80 years and never lose thei value : : : : : OK, I’ ve heard a lot of guys say that an Epiphone Les Paul sounds nothing like a Gibson one. In my opinion, since Epiphone builds up Les Paul under Gibson specifications, they should sound alike. The only things that make a difference are the name, the location of manufacturing & the history of Gibson. Any other opinions?

Question: is decal paper the stuff as I use to put on model cars? Throw it in warm water, wait a bit an it will come off, ready to "glu"" it on the headstock? I think they said special on them. The store sold out a year ago, so I can’t say for sure. But it sounds like what you are describing. I just got one. Its called a Peavey Special 112 Wedge. 160 watts,12" scorpion. You can get the users manual on Peavey’s website. Im guessing it was made around 1989.

Before you bash Tweedy and his abilities…see Wilco live. Then you’ll change your mind about how well he sings…and how is skill is that of the longest heavy metal guitarist except he plays with originality….anyways you must like heavy metal otherwise you would agree with him…(heavy metal = all unoriginal, boring, repetitive, unmusical, consistant hard guitar soloing)

hey man, i dont think that i can answer your question, but i have one for you. there is a 1980 gibson firebrand gibson for sale at a shop where i live in portland me. this may help you a little, its used and he wants 625 dollars, hardshell included. there is nothing wrong with it as far as i could tell. i played it for about 40 mins and it was fine. my question though is, where do i learn more about this guitar. is it realy a gibson. why is it so inexpensive? hope i helped a little and hope you can help me too. thanks steve : anybody know the approximate value of a 1980-81 gibson firebrand sg? if you could help, that would be great, email me at [email protected] thanks.

From playing this guitar I find it great for many different styles. Punk and Heavy Metal not being my top choices but this guitar or any other guitar will fulfill that purpose. It is not hard to add a distortion pedal and play power chords. I found that the Ibanez SC420 is a very formidable instrument that has great balance of tone and an awesome feel. This guitar is much more sophisticated, I find than other Ibanez brand. I would compare the SC420 to the Yamaha Drop 6 Ty Tabor series which is an awesome and versatile guitar.

:Yes it is the best power amp .Because of the tubes. it uses 6550’s. I have a 1985 800. But i dont use the pre amp i use a jmp1 rack. and a hiwatt cab 100 watt. the combination is greatbut yes to loud for most smaller bars. so i am working on a baffle design that will help block some of the sound from the audiance but still get the great tone that can only happen at that volume level.

You have a newer model. Check the Martin website, go to serialization. 30 – 40% depreciation might apply if it is still in very good condition. Bear in mind, retail prices are already discounted up to 25% by the dealers. So take a percent off the actual selling price of a new one.

Reply, just to add to what’s been said, when one of my daughter’s was in her teens and in a similar situation, she had a collection of "short scale" guitars. They were a bit smaller, but still full fize, with a shorter distance from the bridge to the beginning of the headstock, or to the nut, of course. Of these various makes & models, the Fender Jagstang was the easiest to play – it also had a very narrow neck and the strings were close together. I don’t recommend the Mustang, but the Fender Cyclone was terrific. Fender Toronado was too bulky, but the Epiphone SG’s are nice & light. For a bass, if & when desired, we had a Fender Mustang which was much better than it’s guitar counterpart – short & easy like you wouldn’t believe! Only thing shorter we used was the Danelectro Longhorn. Big name, nice little bass. Strat Man Dwight

Interesting… I just picked up a Jackson with the same description that I have been researching. It is a metal flake red color, the backplate does not have a serial number or stamp at all. The serial number is on the back of the neck, on a sticker rather than stamped. Someone said it might be a Model 3 or 4. What I am coming up with is a Fusion Pro or Dinky. Any clues? : The Blue Book of Guitar Values and Identification for Dealers and Repairmen shows it to be a Model 3, mfd. 1986-1989. It’s an up grade to the Model 1, it looks like the Model 4, except it had 2 single coil/one humbucker pickup configuration with a 5 position switch. The Model 4 has 2 humbuckers, standard vibrato, 5 way switch with active electronics and was mfd. 1986-1989 also. The blue metallic color was not available standard untill 1991, so it would be a custom color option. The standard neck was maple with 22 fret maple fingerboard. If it’s rosewood then it’s a custom option too. The color of the guitar shaped Charvel logo is a clue to where it was made. The Gold logos are USA made. White or Black logos are made overseas, Korea mostly. Last Mfr’s Sug. Retail price for the Model 3 USA make was $650.00. If you can send me some pic’s of it I may be able to tell you what it’s valued at. : : : Take my word, its a charvel model four, sounds like an 84 model, i had one too, mine was red, sold it though, wish i hadnt : : : I have a strat-style Charvel that I bought back in the late 80’s from a friend. It is a bridge humbucker and 2 forward singles configuration. It is a blue metal flake color, and has a bolt on neck that is maple (back) and rosewood (I THINK) fretboard. well my first guitar was a mexican and i found that with a bit of tweaking you could get better sounds than and similar priced epiphone, also i find that epiphones tend to mae a lot of noise, (as do single coils on a strat but not as much) i would go for the strat with humbuckers and maybe new tuning heads and a floyd rose trem you’d get that for about $350 all brand new and nice if yer lucky

This may not be as obvious when you first start playing, but like most guitarists, : : once you start to develope an ear for tone, you’ll hear the difference. : : — : : Jeff : Jeff’s right man. people first starting out don’t really have the ear, but you’ll eventually learn that if you want a good heavy sound, humbuckers are a must. the strat w/single coils sounds pretty thin- which is appropriate for certain occasions- but not punk. i’d also recommend steering away from the mexican strat- the craftsmanship pretty much sucks. as far as budget goes, i’d recommend epiphone. i played a G-400 in a hardcore band for a few years, and it never let me down. a couple of the other guys had les pauls, and some guys i’ve played with in metal bands had ibanez, jackson, bc rich, whatever. when you’re budget minded, like i assume you are, these brands make guitars and relatively low-cost that soar far above the quality of a mexican strat and will keep you a happy player for a long time(belive me, my first guitar was a cheap strat!) I disagree with your epiphone suggestion. I bought an epi LP, and it didn’t last a month WITHOUT BEING MISTREATED before it fell apart. If I were you, I’d get a single-coil Mexican Strat and upgrade to Vintage Noiseless pickups. You might want to look at the Mexican Powerhouse Strat if you are willing to spend a little more. It kicks ass and is only $500 ($700-something list price). For punk, i think Fender is the way to go. –Koob67

I play blues and Jazz and am thinking about putting two Gibson 57s in place of the Epiphone Humbuckers. Will I get a noticable change in tone? I was told the two pick ups are similar. I like the Epiphone, I also have a late 50’s Fender Strat(the real deal,not a reissue) I have always played on Fenders. I play a lot of slide and slack key styles recntly. I want to get the best sound I can. So what do you folks suggest? Thanks for the input BG

: I am a beginner, as well. My wife bought me a Fender Strat Deluxe, made in Mexico, with a maple neck and gold-plated metal parts. I’m having a great time. It’s been 9 weeks and I’m starting to sound musical here and there (at least, in my opinion). Yesterday, I bought a used Fender Blues Junior 15 watt amp (tweed version) cheap from a pawn shop. I replaced the 3 preamp tubes (12ax7) for $40 and it sounds great. I’m feeling all hobbyist about it and would like to try some modifications just for the experience. Any recommendations? I read a comment that somebody posted that mentioned that the reverb unit could be beefed up. Also, Weber’s website has several comments re speaker upgrades but no two involved the same replacement speaker. If there are no rational tweaks to the amp, I guess that I could build a 2nd one from a kit. What about upgrades to the Strat? I’ve taken it apart and put it back together and am confident that I could replace any part on it. Replacement pickups? A roller bearing nut? Any suggestions? : : : I am a beginner using a Fender Strat (Mexican) and a Squier 15G practice amp. Where should I spend my money to upgrade: an American Strat or a better amp? : : : I can’t do both right now, so I have to choose wisely. : : Hi Kurt, : : Mexican strats can be quite okay, if yours is I would stick to it for a while and buy a better Amp. If you just play at home I would say a small Tube amp would do best something like a Peavey classic 20, or a Fender blues junior, maybe a boogie rocket or a Marshall JCM 2000 DSL 201, but these last two are more expensive and it all comes down on personal taste and what they are gonna be used for. : : When you would decide to buy another guitar, wich is bassicly more important to learn it on then a good amp, I would say buy something different than an American standart strat because you allready got a strat (even when it’s not such a good one). The other discription of ‘slash’ chords is where a chord is played with a single bass note played on top. For example the opening chord of Space Oddity by David Bowie is Fmaj7/E, here the Fmaj7 chord is fretted as normal but the open E string is also strummed to give an E in the bass line. Also in the song is a C/G, again the C chord is fretted and a G on the 6th string is also fretted as the bass note. You will find with this chord that 3rd finger will fret the G note and the 4th finger will fret the C note. This use of chords can be excellent for creating a bass line movement over either a single open chord or even a set of open chords.

From what I’ve read the tone is supposed to be pretty close. : The Vibroking is 60 watts Vibrolux is 40 watts, is this the only difference? The Vibroking is a custom shop amp, hand built w/ point to point wiring, while the Vibrolux was designed by the Custom Shop but still uses circuit board technology. Also, the Vibroking has a built in 63′ reverb, w/ tone, mix, and depth knob (ie. Dick Dale surf sound), while the Vibrolux’s tube reverb only has one knob to control reverb (still cool but not as far out as the 63′ reverb). Also, the Vibroking has one extra 10" speaker. : Pricewise the King is almost double that of the Lux so there must be something else in the equation. Point to point wiring. : I tried a Line 6 flextone today and am astonished at the sounds possible. Help me decide! The Vibrolux or the Flextone. The Twin tone is truly amazing and with temolo switched in she’s pretty close to a Vibro. Go w/ the tube Vibrolux, although the digital modelling amps sound really close and have a ton of features and applications, nothing comes close to the musicality and warmth of tubes.

This is correct if the : speakers are wired in parallel.But looking at the connections in my amp I see : that they are wired in series and in that case the load for two 16 ohm speakers : would be 32 ohms wouldn’t it. : Can someone help. First, wiring in series. Positive out of the amp to positive of the first speaker. negative of that speaker will go to the positive of the second speaker and the negative of that speaker will go to ground. If your 16 ohms speaker are wired in series, they will produce a 32 ohm load. I have never seen guitar amp speakers wired for 32 ohms. Most a 4 or 8 ohms. I believe they should be wired in parallel. both positives to positve and both negatives to ground this will produce an 8 ohm load and will match your amplifiers output impeadance. with a 32 ohm most of the power will be lost in the amp with very little going to the speaker this is not good for the amp and the speaker will not receive enough power to work properly Hope this will help you out……….Dan

I own three hamer diablo’s, so am a little partial to them, they do have a floating tremalo, so you must learn how to tune them, I just got of tour with front line assembly, so I am professinal. They stay in tune weel, sound good and have a neck that feels scultpted to my hands. They sound good and balanced. AS for the cons: they need to be intonated once a year (as all guitars do). They arn’t an all arounf guitar, they aren’t going to be a great guitar foor country, or light rock this guitar was desighned to play rock type music, As before mentioned I play in an industrial band. Go to harmony-central.com they have reviews there. hope this helped

I saw it in a guitar center sale ad. It’s called "G-VOX". You get the pickup which trnaslates it to midi for your computer. And software. The system is meant for notating your guitar playing, but I believe it can be used as a virtual guitar synth. You may not like you computer’s midi interface, so you’ll have to buy a higher quality one if you want. I haven’t had a chance to buy this, but I’m going to and then I’m gonna use my Yamaha keyboard as the midi interface for my guitar. I hope it works!

Is there any way I can get rid of the smear to leave a nice polished finish. I have used this polish on my Epiphone les paul with no problems. Thanks for any advice. Second reply – verdict’s in! I’ve gladly written to as many real experts as I know about this. Smart guys, who write books, and command respect, so no funnies here anyone … thanks. Most point to a book by Dan Erlywine, available through Stew Mac. Use a damp cloth with a little mild soap. Rinse with damp cloth & dry immediately with a soft dry cloth or towel. That’s what I do … and people laugh! Until I invent my own guitar polish, I’m using Dunlop’s formula 55. Again it’s just a simple matter of having all the right stuff in it until something better comes along. Sorry, watch those others with chemicals, oils & silicones. NO furniture polish or Armor All – I’ve done it, even used car wax. Call it research. Stick with a little soap when needed, and Jim Dunlop for the finishing touch. Strat Man Dwight

I just signed on with Seymour Duncan and will be stocking all the humbuckers, Trembuckers, Little 59’s, JB Jrs…all of the favorites. Also the new SH13 Dimebucker and SH14 Custom 5. I’m a Blues player and my favorite Duncan humbuckers are still the ’59 & JB, tho the Antiquity and Seth Lovers are great too. My favorite Duncan single coils would be the SSL-1, but my favorite Duncan Pickups for a Strat would be the Duncan SSL-1 neck & middleRW/RP & neck model JB Jr. for the bridge! A neck model JB Jr. used as a bridge pickup is still louder than SSL-1 neck and middle Strat pickups so I get a boost when I switch to the bridge pickup. And, to me, the JB Jr. N balances better volume wise with the middle pickup the the regular JB Jr. bridge.

For the VH sound [early], EVH played lighter bodied Kramers with one humbucker in the bridge only. He needed a pickup that would give him a warm, smooth, fat tone without sacrificing clarity. Essentially a mid range push without the "mud". Seymour’s answer was what became the SH-11 Custom Custom humbucker from the current product line. It is also available in a Trembucker version, which is spaced wider to accomdate the sting flare created [at the bridge] with a locking Floyd Rose type tremolo, the TB-11. This is all assuming that you’re using a lighter body type guitar [alder, ash, etc.]. Everything changes if you are using a heavier guitar body. See ya.

I’d say it’s the dimmers. If you go to a studio you’ll notice that any wall dimmers are those huge (expensive) ones with a giant rheostat (sp?). The little dinky ones you buy at Lowes and Home Depot are very noisey. Sometimes they have a click stop that takes the rheostat out of the circuit. Rather than go to a studio, just go to another room, on a different circuit of course, and see if it works there. Or run an extension chord. Now, back to my search for how to get the buzz out of my new LP pickups! When I touch the pickup the noise goes away.: :Probably not, what you are more than likly hearing is called AC line noise and is usually caused by a faulty ground or earthing in the electrical wiring. Here is a simple test: If your amp has a three prong plug on it and the wall outlet is only a two prong type, then you need an adapter to plug it up, right? Ok on most adapters there is a metal loop or a wire with a metal clip on it, take a long enough wire to go from the wall outlet to a gas pipe or a water pipe, tie the wire tight to the pipe (a hose clamp or vicegrips is good here) and tie the other end to the plug adapter loop or wire. Pipes usually go into the ground at some point and this will make a temporary groung for the test. If the wall outlet is a three prong type and not grounded, connect the wire to the green screw on the back of the outlet. You will need to take the plug outlet out of the wall to do this, so be sure to turn off the electricity to that plug before removing the screws that hold it in the wall. If at all possible try to plug the amp into an outlet that is not on the same circuit as the lights, this is a problem with that kind of lighting. If you want to e-mail me I will explain in more detail how you can ground a few plugs and save some money on doing the whole house. [email protected] : I noticed in the manual it actually says dont use on the same circuit as "vairable lighting". I borrowed a marshall amp and a washburn guitar and it did the sasme thing so it’s definately the electrics in my house rather than the amp. : : Will a shielded lead actually stop this as it sounds like the interferance is coming through the power lead of the amp.

: It’s always possible that you do not have the right bar, or that it is faulty. The thread spacing might be different. : Just to give it one more try, first check that it is not a left handed thread, which would screw in anti clockwise intead of the usual clockwise. Unlikely but possible. : In any case, line the threaded part of the bar up with the hole, and while gently pressing it in, slowly turn the bar in the opposite direction to the direction that would screw it in. When you feel a slight click, you know you have found the end of the thread, so immediately reverse direction and it should screw in. If this doesn’t work your bar doesn’t match your bridge, or one of them has a damaged thread. If the bar’s thread is damaged this should be visible, perhaps with some magnification. You might be able to fix it with a small file. If it’s the hole that’s the problem it would need to be retapped. Good luck.

Right now I’m trying to emulate Carlos Santana, Eric Clapton & John Fogarty. I play a Strat Plus with Lace Sensors through a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe tube amp. I keep my tuner and a Boss OS-2 Distortion Pedal in line all the time. I am finding that by using the overdrive of the amp and the Boss Pedal, I can get a solid, punchy overdrive sound, good for Santana and a lot of other music. Also there are many variations I can get with the controls on the amp and the controls on the pedal. The clean side of the amp, without the pedal gives me a clean sweet sound, good for Fogarty. I don’t play metal, so I don’t know much about that. You talked about "playing in the pocket". I have a vague idea what you mean, but I’m not sure. It sounds like coming through at the right time, not stepping on the singer or other players, not trying to show off, etc. Maybe you can elaborate a little. Also, I recently picked up a Roland BC60 which was sounding muddy and distorted until I realized you can’t overdrive the input too much. I’m still experimenting with the controls.

My Dad bought his Valencian Tatay in London in 1958. He had learnt to play the guitar whilst a prisoner of war in Colditz. I remember him playing the Bach Chaconne or the Moonlight Sonata on his Tatay. I played it at his funeral four years ago. I have had it refretted, for the original frets were never good enough. The notes now speak clearer with less effort. I own a wonderful Southwell concert guitar, but that Tatay, with its rough and ready construction, yet unsurpassed for beauty and warmth of tone, goes with me everywhere….. : : : : I have one also – it was my dad’s. Has to be at least 40 years old. In perfect condition.

I have an old Gretch Nashville guitar that I am trying to date. It is a hollow body guitar with the holes cut out. Most that I have seen have just fake holes. These are actually cut out and the guitar is alomost an orange red color. Do you have any idea how old this guitar might be? Thanks Les

i have an old gretch durm kit. original everything. wood rims 4 piece set. snare to match the set and orginal leather travel case w/ serial numbers in cases and drums. great condition. the heads that were on the set when i found them had old old old 1940’s like risque female pinups printed on them. the kit is silver metallic flake sparkle. its in great condition and the emblems on the drums are solid round badges w/ the grecth logo. they play and sound great w/ new heads on them. i just want to know where i can find out more info on them. thanks

I used to own a very nice A20V. This was the topof the line of the A-Vseries. It had a neck through design for excellent sustain. Rosewood fingerboard that looked like ebony and double humbucking pick-ups were standard on this model. I truely loved the triangular shape of the neck and the style is still over the top by todays standards! I wih that I hadn’t sold it, but what ya’ gonna do?

This really upset me as I have dealt with HSN for l5 years and trust what they present. I cant understand how this beautiful instrument could be downgraded to such a level. Please let me hear your comments as I am confused how this could be misrepresented. Thank you, : Perhaps you could pose this concern to Esteban’s website @ estebanmusic.com. I have purchased several CD’s from him on HSN and the price I paid was better that I could have purchased them in your typical music stores. And believe me I have heard far more positive things about his guitars than negative. While these are good guitars for beginners, perhaps some of the sour grapes out there should try to compare apples to apples, not apples to oranges. If I were a beginner and had to choose between $100.00 or 3 to 4 times that amount for a decent instrument I would look for value.

I will be playing punk rock and rock. Which strat would you recommend? THANKS : That humbucker (in theory) should be quieter than a single coil, beefier, and give you a fuller distorted : sound. If you’re playing punk rock or straight rock, you’ll probalby want the humbucker. Just take : a look at other punk/rock guitarists… They either have humbucking guitars, or mini-humbuckers. Sure, : you can take a strat with 3 single coils and distort the hell out of it… but it won’t sound as good as : that distorted humbucker. This may not be as obvious when you first start playing, but like most guitarists, : once you start to develope an ear for tone, you’ll hear the difference. : — : Jeff

In order to fret the high E, you’d have to bend : it sharp to get it onto the fretboard, if you can visualize the : problem. I took the guitar back to the store I bought it, and : that was fixable. Much later, I took the guitar to my setup : guy (at a different store) and had him go over the guitar and : get the action and intonation set, since back then I wasn’t : that great at it. Anyways something felt wrong with the guitar : so I wanted to have it looked at. It turned out that the frets : were unlevel, and they were loose. This guitar wasn’t that : old. About 5 months since I had bought the guitar maybe… : and it was probably in the store for half a year maybe? So : the frets really shouldn’t have come loose by then. Anyways : I sent the guitar back to Valley Arts and they said it met : factory specifications. I was pissed 🙂 I took the guitar back : to the set-up guy, and he said there was a different neck : on the guitar than the one he had seen. I don’t know who’s : telling the truth here, but I was tired of having trouble : with the guitar, and returned it. I got an ESP Horizon : to replace it, and that’s been a great guitar… I recommend : you check out ESPs guitars.. they make a lot of different : models, I’m sure they made a model that’ll fit your specs.. : they do make Stratocaster-style guitars… : — : Jeff

I really loved the guitar at first, but I have bee having major problems with the neck in the last 3 years. It is very sensitive, and warps easily. Also, a repairman will charge you extra to work on the neck since he/she must "unlock and remove" the neck from the body to adjust and readjust the neck. Also having a Floyd Rose on it is a real pain and affects the guitar’s sustain. Needless to say, I have not been extremely happy, so I’m looking to trade it in for a jazz hollow body. Sad indeed. : As to your question having toaught for a long number of years Classical Guitar may I suggest the following? Plead od approach a Classical Guitar teacher who is and A.R.C.T. – Associate of the Royal Conservatory of Toronto being the best school in Canada no matter what what you are to. : A beginning series I use is Aron Shearer Vol one along with stretch exercises and the Segovia Diatonic Scales. Insofor as theory The Royal Convervaotry has a superb series out for many years from Grades 1-5. You will need grades 1+ 2 only to become a good guitarist. : Please let me know if I may be of any further help. Do not rush your classical technique as both ligaments and tendons have to stretched along with supple strength. In classical technique it is not strength only rather flexibility allowing non-playing fingers to rest.

I have an S.Yairi as well – a model 700 which I assume from the other posts is the bottom of the range. It was manufactured in 1975 and I bought it as second owner in 1976 in Australia for about $200 when I started getting serious about learning classical guitar. It has always been a geat guitar – solid spruce top, bookmatched two piece back. The only information I have been able to find on S.Yairi guitars is in this discussion and has been very helpful in that after 25 years I have decided to trade in my rarely played Yairi for a new Maton steel string that will get a lot of use. I have no idea what it is worth but am getting a trade in valuation done today at the local music store. This info will help attest to the quality of the guitar which is fairly obvious when played anyway and also confirm its rarity.

: I have a Mesa DC-10 (100W 212 combo)and have bought a Mesa 2×12 external cab w/ Celestion Black Shadow 8ohm 90’s. The speakers in the DC-10 are wired in series. Which outlet plug in the back of the amp should I plug the 2×12 cab into? I’ve been waiting to see what an actual owner might say. Got 1 – 16, 2 – 8, and 2 – 4 ohm speaker jacks? Try an 8 ohm speaker jack. 2 – 8 ohm speakers in the cab … are you sure they aren’t parallel = 8 ohms total? If they’re series as you say, one would expect 16 ohms of resistance, and plugging into an 8 ohm output won’t harm them. Mesa Engineering is on hand to help you with this. I usually accept the ohm figure it says on the back of a cabinet, if it’s there, as do most people, I think. Anyone else? … Strat Man Dwight

I was hired by Mike Mcguire and Al Carnas at Valley Arts Guitar in November of 1987 at the old store on Ventura Blvd in Studio City as a repairman and then later as head of production for the years 1988 to early 1990. It was a real small crew of of people , My self , Bob Kerr , Steve Boulager (fender custom shop), Ramon & his brother Rojelio in prep & paint.( sorry, cant remember last names) Don Grosh (Don Grosh Guitars) would join later as well as Derick Phelps (guitar tec h for Areo Smith) Chris Buttleman( tech for Elton John , Eagles, ) John English ( Fender custom shop) . We Had an OEM situation with Warmoth to semi carve all our bodies & necks. We would then take and customize all the shaping and carving to match our specs including pickup routes , neck pocket routes & things like the "interlock" system of neck mounting which was an option on the custom pro line . The original California Pro was a limited production of 200 instruments in three colors. Salmon, Surf green,and Banana yellow. The necks had brazilian rosewood fingerboards , and I personaly shaped every one of the necks to a soft "V" resembling a late 1957 Strat. My brother Robert designed the "California Pro" headstock decal as well as the "Standard Pro" decal. All the electronics were mounted on single ply .060 white vinyl with a 15 degree bevel route on the sides. All came with special order white EMG singlecoil pickups (not available to anyone at the time) and expander . Thats all I remember for now. After 1990 I went on to work at Tobias guitars in Burbank, but thats another story. See ya! Gil

Stephane- I absolutly love my Valley Arts. I first heard about them in an interview in Guitar Player. It was an artical with Steve Lukather. I have a Standard Pro with active EMGS. 2 single coils and a humbucker. I bought it in 90′. I wouldn’t trade for anything. I have had luther’s(guitar doctor’s) adjust the neck as needed and I haven’t had any problem’s with it at all. Hope you can find one if you do grab it and don’t let it out of your hands. excuse me, guvna_! i’m about to buy a korean es120 for £400 – the japanese model is £900 approx. So i was interested to what you are saying. anyway, i know my place_! : i played a ‘Korean’ Tokai les paul copy in a shop, i was totaly knocked out by the guitar, tone playability, it even looks like the real thing, so i ended up buying one, and i realy cant fault it, sure the finishing is a bit poor but what do you expect for £399 new?, anyway there was very little info on these ‘Koreans’ so i got on to a Tokai discussion board, and the Tokai ‘Japanese’ owners are rubbishing the ‘Korean’ Guitars!! for being not up to Jap standard!! i thought how ironic, the copies are knocking the copies of the copies! its like the english class system. : Lee

Turn 6$ into 50,000$ It’s true.Read this carefully or download to read A while back, I was browsing these newsgroups, just like you are now, and came across an article similar to this that said you could make thousands of CASH within weeks with only an initial investment of $6.00 plus stamps! So I thought, "Yeah, right, this must be a scam!" But like most of us I was curious and kept reading. It said that if you send $1.00 to each of the 6 names and addresses listed in the article, you could make thousands in a very short period of time. You then place your own name and address at the bottom of the list at #6, and post the article to at least 300 newsgroups. (There are about 32,000 of them out there and that’s quite a large market pool). No catch, that was it. Even though the investment was a measly $6, I had three questions that needed to be answered before I could get involved in this sort of thing. 1. IS THIS REALLY LEGAL? I called a lawyer first. The lawyer was a little sceptical that I would actually make any CASH but he said it WAS LEGAL if I wanted to try it. I told him it sounded a lot like a chain letter but the details of the system (SEE BELOW) actually made it a legitimate legal business. 2. IS OK WITH THE POST OFFICE OR IS IT MAIL FRAUD? I called them: 1-800-725-2161 and they confirmed THIS IS ABSOLUTELY LEGAL! (See 18, h sections1302 NS 1341 of Postal Lottery Laws). This clarifies the program of collecting names and addresses for a mailing list. 3. IS IT RIGHT? Well, everyone who sends me a buck has a good chance of getting A LOT of CASH … a much better chance than buying a lottery ticket!!! So, having these questions answered, I invested EXACTLY $7.92 … six $1.00 bills and six 32 cent postage stamps … and boy am I glad I did!!! Within 7 days, I started getting CASH in the mail! I was shocked! I figured it would end soon and didn’t give it another thought. But the CASH continued coming in. In my first week I made between $20 to $30. By the end of the second week I had a made a total of $1,000.00. In the third week I had over $10,000.00 and it was still growing. This is now my fourth week and I have made a total of just over $42,000 and it’s still coming in ….. It’s certainly worth $6.00 and 6 stamps !!! Also, make sure you print a copy of this article NOW, so you can get the information off of it as you need it. If you are a person of integrity, the program will continue and the CASH that so many others have received will come your way. NOTE: You may want to retain every name and address sent to you, either on a computer or hard copy and keep the notes people send you. This VERIFIES that you are truly providing a service. (Also, it might be a good idea to wrap the $1 bill in dark paper to reduce the risk of mail theft.) So, as each post is downloaded and the directions carefully followed, six members will be reimbursed for their participation as a List Developer with one dollar each. Your name will move up the list geometrically so that when your name reaches the #1 position you will be receiving thousands of CASH in CASH!!! With an original investment of only $6.00! And some stamps. AMAZING! When your name is no longer on the list, you just take the latest posting in the newsgroups, and send out another $6.00 to names on the list, putting your name at number 6 again. And start posting again. The thing to remember is: do you realize that thousands of people all over the world are joining the internet and reading these articles everyday? JUST LIKE YOU are now!! So, can you afford $6.00 and see if it really works?? I think so… People have said, "what if the plan is played out and no one sends you the CASH? So what! What are the chances of that happening when there are tons of new honest users and new honest people who are joining the internet and newsgroups everyday and are willing to give it a try? Estimates are at 20,000 to 50,000 new users, every day, with thousands of those joining the actual internet. Remember, play FAIRLY and HONESTLY and this will really work. By the way, if you try to deceive people by posting the messages with your name in the list and not sending the CASH to the rest of the people already on the list, you will NOT get as much. Someone I talked to knew someone who did that and he only made about $150.00, and that’s after seven or eight weeks! Then he sent the 6 $1.00 bills, people added him to their lists, and in 4-5 weeks he had over $10k. This is the fairest and most honest way I have ever seen to share the wealth of the world without costing anything but our time!!! You also may want to buy mailing and e-mail lists for future CASH. Make sure you print this article out RIGHT NOW! Also, try to keep a list of everyone that sends you CASH and always keep an eye on the newsgroups to make sure everyone is playing fairly. If you’re really not sure or still think this can’t be for real, please print a copy of this article and give it to someone who really needs the CASH, and see what happens. *4. I just wanted to say thanks to you John for posting that bit about bar chords. They’re such a bear at first and practicing them for any length of time is downright painful. Hmmm… i have a ’60s or ’70s Kay electric guitar. Does anybody know anything about it? It seems we are presented with an interesting dilemma. All i know is that my Kay electric is admired by many and i have even had a music store offer me $1500 for it. First of all, it’s not THAT nice, and second, i don’t think anyone really knows what they are or where they came from. Mine was my uncle’s and then it became my dad’s and it sat around for years with no strings and missing a key bushing until i asked about it one day and he gave it to me. So i took it to our local music store and had them restring it and put in a new bushing. All i have to say is this thing plays wonderfully. i love the way it sounds and i wish i could learn more about these things. My uncle doesn’t know much about it because he bought it used. He thinks it was a ’70s Radio Shack $99 special. So, there you have it. i don’t know much. Sorry i couldn’t help you, but at least i can relate, right???
