I have a 1958 flamenco guitar made by Manuel Rodriguez. I bought it directly from him at his taller, in Madrid in 1958. It has a certificate inside with the signature of Manuel Rodriguez and the Number 82. It has a spruce top, cypress sides and back. It has a few hairline cracks on top and back. However, they do not affect the tone. I want to sell the guitar. Can you give me an idea of the general value? Thank you.

Do you have the Alhambra Luthier Classical Guitar, models India or Rio.

I have seen to different models of each the India and the Rio one being slightly more expensive. Are there indeed two different India’s and Rio’s and if so can you please tell me the difference.

Please send prices on your India and Rio models.

Thank You

have one also, it is glossy jet black. I’ve had it in my collection for about 21 years. I purchased it around 1983, Des Lauriers is a japanese/american guitar company that was only around for about 10 years or so. They were bought out by a german guitar company and stopped producing the des Lauriers because it cost too much to make. If yours is in good shape it could be worth about $500-$1000. I have been offered $1000 on many occasions but continuously turn them down. I would tell you to hold on to it. It became an unexpected collectible, sort of like the car De Lorean. Hope this helps.

The pickguard on it is black and has a hummingbird with white vines drinking nectar. The pickguard isn’t normal, it’s a little jagged like. (Not a tear drop.) I’m looking to sell it and was wondering how mch the pickguard made it worth! The fretboard is half dead- on the 7th fret to the 12th it’s dead. I know how to fix this and stuff, but just throwing that out there. SUnburst color btw. I would love any info as I’m trying to buy some JHS pedals (LOOK THEM UP!!!!!!!) and if anyone’s interested in it…? I picked it up from some indian guy for 7 bucks next door. Hey everyone. this thread is probably dead, but i have info on these. Des Lauriers were manufactured ifrom 1976-1986 (im pretty sure) either way only ten years, by a company called matsumoku in japan, they also made vantage guitars, aria guitars, washburn, and even epiphone. sometime after that production moved to korea i think by samick again i could be wrong. look up matsumoko and try and find more but this took me all day to figure out. happy playing!

<div class="cmt-sbj">Des Lauriers Guitars and Basses - Not Matsumoku</div><div class='author-st'>C Richardson</div>

I recently researched this brand due to seeing a DB-20 bass being advertised as a 1960’s Matsumoku build when it obviously wasn’t a 1960’s Matsumoku build from the photo. This is an unfortunate side effect of Matsumoku’s internet cache, often originating in online ads for other Japan manufactured and other Asian country manufactured instruments.
The information that the brand was originally registered in Japan in 1976 may be correct and to the best of my knowledge the American Distributor purchase of the brand is dated fairly correctly (may have been a couple of years earlier).

There are no online examples of Japanese made Des Lauriers electric guitars or basses, all of them are made in Korea and many still have their made in Korea label on them. They are most likely all post 1980 as well, going by the hardware and other features.
The DB series electric guitars and basses were at the lowest price point and quality level at their time. Two strings per saddle bridge on the bass and both the guitars and basses might be plywood bodies. These would have retailed for around 89 USD (even with basswood bodies). My 1984 Korean made Pbass was 99 CAD, for example.
The other models would be comparable or one tier higher, 125 – 150 USD retail at the most but I doubt as high as 150 retail. These were made as student/beginner instruments.
A reasonable current value is what the original retail value was, if it is in vgc. These instruments won’t be ‘collectibles’ for decades, if ever and are comparable to the Series A brand or instruments being sold on Ali Baba today.

I was beginning to think I was the only person on the planet with a guitar made by this company. Mine is a small (about 24" scale) electric with a funky checkerboard pattern on it, and other than that it’s white from top to bottom. One humbucker, volume control, tone control. It’s my first guitar that my parents got me when I was about 13 or 14. It’s kinda dinged up now, but I just noticed the thing has virtually no heel. Unlike the Washburn I just bought. 🙂 I’m in the process of looking for information myself now.

I have a Des Lauriers. It’s solid ivory white.
Small and sort of Gibson SG Junior styled.
Serial No. 53. No mention of where it was made.

Dual DiMarzio Super Distortion 2s.
Three position switch.
Single vol. and single tone control.
I replaced the cheap whammy/saddle set up with an oldie but a goldie, a Leo Quan Bad Ass!

I love this guitar. I used to have a 68 Gib. SG Jr.
The D.L. has a nostalgic feel and sound to it.
Not much info that I can find.

I’ve played on my red Des for 12 years now, It’s amazing.
I had it used by two people before me, filled with battle scars but still sounded great. I had to change the frets about 1 year ago and sounds better than ever. All blood red, single hambucker, short neck, smooth and fast. I’m interested in buying another one ’cause if something happens to mine i don’t know where to find another. Just one issue, i live in Uruguay (try to find it in the map, hint: south south america).
But if anyone has one for sale or any kind of info i’d really appreciate it.
I’m also interested in bass guitars, heard that they’re as good as the guitars.
Thanks
