    – Press Release

Hard Rock Cafe Melbourne is celebrating its 10th anniversary in October by attempting to break the Guinness World Record for a “Guitar-A-Thon,” the largest assembly of guitarists simultaneously playing one song. Hard Rock Cafe is seeking 2000 participants to assist in this venture as they “lick” the existing record of 1322 (set in Vancouver, Canada in 1994) by having the crowd play Deep Purple’s classic song “Smoke on the Water.” The attempt will also serve as a charity event to raise money for the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.

Hard Rock’s record-breaking event will be held on Saturday, October 29 at the Museum Plaza. In addition to breaking the world record, remaining true to Hard Rock’s core principles and philanthropic endeavors, all proceeds raised from a entry fee will be donated to the Kids Music Therapy program at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.

With the goal of a 0,000 donation, Hard Rock asks that all guitar fans, young and old, amateur or professional, get involved! Each guitarist who participates will be entered into a drawing for great prizes, including brand new guitar amps, and other giveaways throughout the day.

Entrants must register on the day of the event at 9 a.m. and will receive an official registration certificate. All forms of guitars, to be supplied by the participants, are welcome for use. Each performer will be required to play the song acoustically for a continuous five minutes, simultaneously with the other guitarists.
