what's a good amp for about 500 dollars

im looking to buy a good combo for about $500 or so but i dont know what would be the best buy... new or used...help please

What kind of music do you want to play? what is it to be used for? gigging? home use? practice?, do you want valve or solid
state or a mix of the 2??

Check out the marshall AVT 50. sounds great for rock and throw a boss equalizer in front for some great metal sounds.
