hissing while playing with emg 81

hey i play a gibson lp classic with an emg 81 in teh bridge into a marshall dsl 100--its a high gain setup i know but i always hear this hissing noise in the background while i am playing--this is most definatly a problem with the pickup right? Anyone else with emgs? they should be quiet shouldnt they--at least much quieter than this?

Yeah, I've got one in my Fernandes. I don't really like it - much too clinical sounding and with zero character. And it squeals. You should put something tasteful sounding in a Gibson.
