Repainted 1971 Les Paul Custom for $1000. Bad idea?
Submitted by ss1972914 on Sun, 04/02/2006 - 17:15.
Would this be a bad idea? I know that repainting crushes a guitar's value. But I want a good player, and I know this is a great year for LP. ButI don't want to take a bath on it either. Comments?

It depends on what the paint job is actually like. Ask yourself if you want a playing instrument or if you want an investment.
LP custom?? $1000 ?? id have it. so long as it had original hardware etc.
Was it a "professional" refinish or some clown with a can of spray paint?

This is a killer vintage year, and was a great guitar.
Say's its a very professional/glossy paint job.
BUT ....BUT....with "hot rod flames."

You could always get it restored to its original glory. Perhaps later when you've got more cash.
How about posting up a picture? we could stick it in the worst finishes thread?
A '71 LP Custom for $1000 is so waay under book I'd buy anyway.
Or just keep the flames...Don't suppose it has any pinstriping as well does it?
Play the blues and start playing tex-mex you'll fit right in.
I get the feeling that some of these remarks are poking fun a this fellows dilema, please lets try and be a bit more adult, and a bit more professional about this...
Can you install a couple of chrome pipes to go with the flames?
