ES-175 What Gives
Submitted by MC on Wed, 03/23/2005 - 00:47.
You don't see many used Gibson ES-175 for sale. Is there any kind of an after market for these. I have a Kalamazoo-made 175 from the last year they produced them in Michigan which an awesome low action and great tone. What would be its market value.
Hi MC,
I'm assuming your guitar is a 1982 which I believe was around the time Gibson moved to Nashville. If so, the 2004 Vintage Guitar Price guide suggests your ES-175 is worth between $1,700-$2,300. When you see this kind of price range it generally means there's not much consensus in the maket place concerning what the instrument is worth. Also keep in mind that the VG price guide is complied from dealer records so you may not be able to sell your guitar for this tomorrow. Have you checked to see what ES-175s sell for on the Bay? Hope this helps, SB
Based on the serial number this is a 1978 Gibson ES175. I checked on EBAY and the closest is a 1968 listed for $2.5k that looks pretty beat up and a mint condition '69-70 fro $3.3k. It seems that not many from the 1970s are around for sale. So I think the VG price range holds up.
Hey MC,
In case you're interested, a 1978 ES-175 is valued from $1,800-$2,400 in the price guide. cheers, SB
