Saw this guy on the night but wasn’t sure if the wine/vodka/beer had rose-tinted him somewhat…not at all, I have a new hero! (got Weller nodding too!)

Would taking three strings off a guitar eventually twist the neck? (as you may know I like hacking my guitars, I think the SG is next 😀 )

Fantastic gig! What a character he is.

Interested to see that he plays the guitar with his fingertips – no picks at all. And he didn’t play slide as much as I thought. He played really old battered guitars – one was an old parlor guitar with a pickup screwed into the soundhole. The body was actually cracked in places, but it had the most amazing sound.

He also played an old Danelectro (or Silvertone) U1 guitar, and a one-string diddley-bow. And of course, the Three-String Trance Wonder.

I’m going to see him play the Borderline, London, 24 March.

What Seasick Steve is doing with his 3-string guitar is not dis-similar to the techniques used by some cigar-box guitar players.

      Cool, thanks for the info!

I wanted a 4 string setup like my Framus (old thread) https://www.guitarsite.com/hotlicks/viewtopic.php?t=1086&highlight=, but the spacing wouldn’t line up with the pole-pieces of the pups so I was thinking a three string setup using every other straddle would work better.

For what I do I’d be fine with 3 strings and I don’t get on with conventional string spacings, being a bassist and all.

      Which three strings?

I have a three-string guitar which I put together from parts and styled on the now legendary “guitbass” as played by The Presidents of the United States of America.

See this page for more info on how you too could have one: http://www.inthequeue.com/guitbass/
