I completely identify with this quote, although the sayer is considered a very able and influential player. If I'd come up with the quote, it'd have had less irony than a plastic magnet:

Got to be Clapton or Gilmour, they are always banging on about the futileness of Speed Shredding and technique.

Too self-deprecating to be Clapton, surely? Gilmour takes and makes a joke about himself (such as "thank God Money switched to 4/4 so that I could actually play lead over it") but it's not him. More of a folky-rocky player.

No takers? OK, his first name is Richard and he is a guitarist, not a bassist.
