My main gigging guitar is a SG standard with the standard 490t 490r pickups, Ive tried lots of guitars with lots of combinations of pickups and always come back to the SG, i used to play it through an AC30, and i got some incredible tones through it, that Rickenbacker pickup is a very odd combination, Ive never seen it done before, would it actually fit straight in? or would you have to jig it around a bit?
Good luck and tell us how it went.

I haven't had a chance to look up the dimensions but, if the 300 pup requires any routing, think long and hard before going ahead. Not only will the pup and the chiselling cost you time+money, but it will have a depreciating effect on the guitar if you resell.

I was looking at the pickup on the rickebacker site and it should fit right in, the pickup is basicaly a soapbar, but Ive always liked the sound of a single coil on the neck and if I can get rickenbacker tone for $75 that would be great

N+F, (welcome to the board, BTW), I'll try to find some measurements and check that out soon (it's now 1am here in Blighty). If it's a reversible fit and you can hang onto the original pup, then I don't see why not. I'll try to get back ASAP.

I'd love to hear the guitar after you fit the pickup, what kind of SG do you have? Gibson with the batwing scratch plate?

Yeah. It's a great guitar. I ain't got one but I'd love to have one.
It doesn't matter what guitar or pickup, son, if it feels good you'll play any music with it.

I may not have posted it earlier but the guitar is a 2003 SG special

Gibson or Epiphone?

dont do it, you will regret it in the long run

I'm glad sweetlou bumped this up; I completely forgot to look up the possible routing. N+F; have you got any further with this idea?
