😆 , that’s a typical Terry paragraph. No sign of spellchecker or grammarchecker in sight, but always worth reading nevertheless.

I bought a “Voice of Music” little combo off FleebUS in wine-induced-impulse and asked him to forward it for me (seller would only ship to US). As mentioned in a previous thread or two, Terry completely ripped and rebuilt it. The driver and case thrown, in fact I think the power transformer is the only part left. That VoM (an apt name) had 6SL7s (the octal forerunner of the 12AX7) and, IIRC, a 6AQ5 as the powertube. He hates them. Turned it into a 12AX7 + 6V6 clone of the original 5F1 Champ as a small head; even disabling the tone circuit he made. I agreed with him, it sounds great just with a Vol control. Sounds surprisingly excellent for Bass through my pair of ancient Goodmans 12″ and pure Americana with a Strat.

Guess who said this ? 🙂

okay ..put up the jelly donuts quit smoochin your bust of yourselfs you keep in the ice box …pull off your toupees let that giant beer gut hang out so you cant see how small your pecker is …and lets talk about 3 wise men that started on a turd hunt after world war 2.rca sylvania and ge the big three as we call them had traded notes on a dilemma that plauged the companys for years …the pesky 6sl7 sc and other variants that are possibly the most micorphonic useless tubes in the known universe.sn 7 was quiet in most cases cause it had such low gain yet the bandwidth of these is huge.unlike its evil cousin the sl.the octal version of the 12ax7 ecc83 we all so fondly overlook.the benchmark preamp tube of the glass age.each company had seen the problem from inception to extinction.i have a 48 silvertone 1300 and the challenge has always been to find some goddam 6sl7s that can function without turning into radio transmitters .i went thru 40 before i found two that could be used in guitar apps .the american tube production engineers boasted 28 thousand different designatons from thyratrons to sharp cutoff pentode to voltage regulator to rectafier there were 42 engineers in total thruout the americas and europe that handled the puny audio division.there job was to design and refine musical frequency vts .if this is boring you ..im sorry but i want you fellows to remember what human effort went into the evolution of this art .bare in mind without them your options are line 6 and valvetronic transtube fet technology.the problem was in the gettering …or graveyard of the tube, where the spent and dead electrons gather to clear the path for the active ones to flow. still a way had to be found to avtivate barium, argone and two other noble gasses to 715 c without incineration and complete disintegration every time the tube lit. it took 14 years for three men to figure this out ,without map computer industrial spying or the internet.so they didint have access to the busty latina website to break up the boredom.bare in mind this had to avitivate and deavtivate in a stationary device with no switches no moving parts .and do it over and over again.also i would like to mention that making amps out of all these bozo wierd tubes is in my mind pretty much a futile game .with 17 to 22 out of 28 thousand different models .the audio designers found revised and invented glass bottles that emitted the frequencys desired to pop all these oddball harmonics we think are the norm.i have to believe that these guys would be quite amazed and shocked and awe factor if they saw the abuse and perversion we put these things thru daily.except jermey of course who never uses distorted overtones in his builds lol.do you think germ may have been a distant relative of everett hull? he actually thought accordian would be the icon instrument of our times and guitar was a fad …little did he know it is against many state laws to own and operate one of these devices and to play polkas on them is a serious felony.of course the same laws apply when i use a soldering iron…i coulda fit right in with the short bus kids of bletchly park /ironic that people send me vintage marshalls from all over the country cause no one can ever tell they been touched .too much solder cold joints and real shitty lead dress! youd never see me sittin between greg burman and harry joyce .tracy norton sez that i wire dam good for a primate! sgt ….hell that amp dont need all them xtraparts tt ps someone get another dozen donuts for wolfgang !

Despite Terry’s verbals on the YouTube clip, I know he regards the guy and the company very highly; just his usual tongue-cheek ranting. My personal prefs are more for a Superlead than a Mesa Boogie so my comments on the Monterrey voicing are just personal taste.
Thanks for flagging that, myfoot. That’s Terry for sure, did you hear him complaining about the JJ Tesla tubes? 😆 I really need to pull my digit out and send some of my glass stash over to CA for him. I’ve got a backlog of things to do and Mrs Bass is hogging the office/stashroom.

I wasn’t convinced by that Monterrey; it sounded a bit lacking in bottom end and had that west-coast, modern OD sound. Might be my little laptop speakers, though.
Did sound very mid and top, nice sound though, nice looking guitar too.
I asked him if he’d ever used a paragraph and he said nope, but he’d tried windsurfing once:
Now that’s funny 😛 😛

Count yourself lucky. I used to get daily emails from him and he’s got the most random ideas on punctuation I’ve ever seen. I asked him if he’d ever used a paragraph and he said nope, but he’d tried windsurfing once.

He knows his glass and circuits, though. He made me a lovely 5E3 clone and tore apart an unwise, impulsive Fleeb purchase of mine and turned it into a Champ head for me.

I emailed him your link yesterday so I guess that’s why he chimed in on the metroamps thread. I think he was shocked at his swearing 😯 😆

He doesn’t post to often at metroamp forum but it’s kind of hard to follow his posts 😆 Very well regarded on any forum I’ve been on where they know him. Here’s pic as well as some comments in this thread
