Fender Reggie Hamilton Jazz Bass

The Reggie Hamilton bass is a great bass, but I have a few questions. I looked it up in the Blue Book of Electric Guitars and there's a strange difference in price between the Mex and the US jazz bass. The only difference between the basses are the frets and the neck. There's 1 fret less on the mex and the neck is ordinary maple, instead of quarter-sawn maple. This should result into a 1000$ difference, which I find a little bit weird.
Who knows why it's such a big difference?
I have the Mex, with a Fender's 60th anniversary sign, what should this be worth then?
