Hey to everyone, I’m new to the board and I have a Gretsch blackhawk guitar and i’m having a problem dating it.

I have been on several sites reguarding this guitar it has a serial number on the back of the headstock (8855) from what I have found it could possibly be a 1953, but it has the neck with the thumb print inlays and some sites say
that this neck was later like 1967 or so. the neck is originalto the guitar.

Could anyone help me with this problem?

      Hi paddywagon,

I have a Gretsch Black Hawk for sale. I have had it for about ten years and played it on many stages. It has been one of my favorite guitars ever but I have to sell it because I need the money.

You can e-mail me for pictures and more information

Hey…when you check in again, I’m sure I’ll still be interested in the guitar. Post here in the thread, or send me private message. I sent you my email info in a PM to you…you can contact me that way, too.

It’s been a couple of days since I sent my private message – just wondering if you got it (sorry to sound like an antsy school girl!). I’m really interested in acquiring your Black Hawk, if we can come to agreeable terms.

      Thanks!

      Hey Paddywagon,
I appreciate you answering my post even though it is old
I did find that my blackhawk is a 1968 and it is black and
has a bigsby and it sounds awsome. saying it has killer tone
is an understatement. I do play it alot but I would consider
a trade for the right axe. I might sell if the price is right
I am looking to buy an older les paul
      Thanks Scott

      Hey smashmouth,

Your Gretsch cannot be from 1953, they only made the Black Hawk from 1967 to 1972. Your serial # only has 4 digits (there should be more) but the second number “8” indicates it is from 196″8″, and the first 8 indicates in was made in August (8th month of the year).

I know your post is old, but I am a Gretsch Discussion Page member, and I put the word out that looking to buy a Black Hawk. I WILL GIVE YOU TOP DOLLAR if you decide to sell it!!!

What color is your Black Hawk? Black or Sunburst?

Would you consider selling it or trading for it?

      Thanks!
