    Hello

Do any of you guys know anything about web design/are web designers/can help me out designing a better looking site/have any (much needed) advice/utilities?

I have recently launched a Blues Backing Track website, it’s basically for all musicians, (but mainly guitarists). (check out the link in my signature).

I’m a guitar teacher/producer and a wanna be web designer (but after you see my site – you’ll understand that I’m not much of a web designer!) 🙂 I made the site to sell my backing tracks that I use in my lessons to help teach blues improvisation.

    Any help is much appreciated!

    Thanks

    Johnny

Yeah, I use FreeWebs for my bands site, too.

It’s really easy to start up your own site with the built in design tools, it’s almost like using a word processor rather than a web page designer!

To buy your own domain name (so ya lose the clunky http://www.freewebs.com/…. from the start of your URL) is really cheap, too. We paid the equivalent of just less than £45 for 5 years (around $75…ish!) whereas a lot of hosting sites will charge you a monthly/annual fee of a small fortune!

Also, if ya do buy the domain name, you get much more web space. With the free account you may only have 7 pages, and 50 files, but with your domain name bought, you can have an almost limitless number of pages, and up to 50Mb (I think, I may be overestimating, but it’s quite a lot) of files!

Anyway, good luck with your sites whatever you end up using.

      Hello Johnny
Not bad at all!! But not pleasant, I mean there are too many informations on the same page.
Like StarcasterMan you should better create a first page with links only.

I don’t know freeweb.com but I tried a few others, and I gave up very quickly….too limited.I wanted to upload one of my mp3s…..”file size not allowed more than….1 or 2 Mo”…..etc…..fed up!!

So I registered on many pc forums, learned the html language and created the page by myself.(it took a few hours…days…weeks…..)
Not fantastic but I do exactly what I want.

      ……..after you see my homepage – you’ll understand that I’m not much of a blues player……!!! 😆

Another choice for a great website is http://www.freewebs.com. It’s free and extremely easy, plus they have many templates that you can choose from to make your site quite interesting towards the group you want to impress. The only issue that I have ever had is that http://www.freewebs.com/ is in front of your url, so it makes it a little…impersonal. If you want to see a website created by none other than me, go to http://www.freewebs.com/guitar4you and then decide whether it’s worth the bank butin’ $0.00 price tag. I hope that helps!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks Mike!

I’ll get WordPress sorted out on it as soon as I can – I’ve heard other good things about it too…

      Top man

      Hey Johnny,

First things first, I’d get the site onto some sort of easy to manage content management system or blog system: I recommend WordPress because it’s piss easy to set up and even easier to run.

      1) Creating and updating your sites content will be 10x easier.
      2) and there are thousands of templates already designed for it that you edit and build upon. Then when you get more comfortable with web design, you start doing your own.

Even cheap hosts these days let you run WordPress, many have an option to install it with one click.

      – Mike
