    on my epi, on the pickups, all the screws on top of the pickup are all facing the exact same way. arnt they supposed to be all differant and what does it change if you turn them?

      Those are called the pole pieces. They are individual magnets. turning them will change the distance between the magnet in the pickup for that individual string. Closer and it will sound “hotter” but the closer it is the greater the pull of the magnet is on the steel core of the string resulting in less sustain. So there are comprises to be made. Also the closer it is the more apt the string is to slap the pole piece, bad noise bad. And also you usually don’t want one string to sound “hotter” than the others, usually. So jack around with them all you want to get the sound and tone your looking for. But get some pickin buds around you to help you evaluate the tone.. Often I’ll come up with a tuning, or string gauge combo that I think sounds cool, but the Ol Lady and others think sucks a sour lime.
