Watkins Copicat Super-IC echo.
Submitted by Alan Jones on Thu, 09/01/2005 - 09:34.
I've just bought one in a pretty sad state and want to restore it.
Can anybody supply me with a schematic wiring diagram and/or an owner's manual, please? Once working again it should partner my '62 Jazzmaster (serial number 85863) perfectly.
Hello Alan.
Judging by the "IC", it sounds like you have one of the transistor (integrated circuit) versions of the Copicat, rather than the earlier, valve model. Although the magical "valve" word makes the earlier 'cat fetch higher prices on eBay, Charlie Watkins himself reckoned the solid-state versions were the better machines. I used to play one myself, have a WEM dominator amp and a WEM Rapier bass (that I'm restoring and sending on to a friend).
Charlie (last I knew) is still alive and does respond to emails. Visit wemwatkins.co.uk and try an email if you don't find an answer there. Another useful site is Reg's watkinsguitars.co.uk site. Again, if you need more info, use the 'contact' button. I've tapped keys with Reg quite a bit. He is friendly, helpful, and knows the web of WEM enthusiasts well if you need spares. Thanks to him, I managed to get some useful knobs for the Rapier. It sure was a lot less embarrassing than typing "knobs for sale" into a search engine :)
Thanks for the info, much appreciated.
I contacted Watkins and have managed to source a wiring diagram and details of replacement heads direcly from them.
Does anybody have a users manual I could beg, borrow and/or copy, please?
Apart from Chalie Watkins' and Reg Godwin's sites, Tim Fletcher runs a great site for lesser-known British amps. The Copicat is included here:

Something between those three should do it. If not, go to the PlexiPalace forum and post a request in the category "Other British amps" and/or FX.
